Abstract

Concept understanding and product creativity of Ma'arif class VII A junior high school students are less than optimal. This problem is because learning activities do not invite students to increase literacy. Based on this, it is necessary to innovate learning. The purpose of this research is to apply Li-Pro-GP learning (Project-Based Science Literacy in the integrated scientific literacy movement strengthening character education) to improve conceptual understanding and creativity of learning poster products. The type of research used is quasi-experimental research (quasi-experimental) using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research population is seventh-grade junior high school students. While sampling using purposive sampling. The research sample is all Ma'arif junior high school students in class VII A. Data collection techniques use tests and documentation with research instruments, namely written test questions in the form of essays used to pretest and posttest. The measurement of the creativity of the learning poster product uses the product creativity rubric. Data analysis using paired t-test with the help of data processing applications IBM SPSS 26 and Ms.Excel. The results showed that: 1) there was an effect of using the Li-Pro-GP learning model on the ability to understand concepts; 2) there is an effect of using the Li-Pro-GP learning model on the creativity of the learning poster product.

Abstract

Students' creativity and written communication are essential 21st-century skills, yet junior high school students often show low abilities in these areas due to passive, monotonous learning and limited writing practice. This study investigates the effect of the Li-Pro-GP learning model a project-based literacy approach integrated with the School Literacy Movement (SLM) and Strengthening Character Education (SCE) on improving students' creative thinking and written communication abilities. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling based on equal number of students and gender balance. VIII F served as the experimental class and VIII G as the control class, each consisting of 34 students with 15 males and 19 females. The research instrument used to measure creative thinking ability and written communication ability is an essay question each designed with distinct indicatiors. Creative thinking instruments emphasize innovative ideas and solutions, while written communication instruments emphasize clarity, structure, and accuracy in expressing ideas. The data were analyzed using ANCOVA and Quade's Rank Analysis with the help of SPSS 27 and JASP applications. The results of the analysis showed that the Li-Pro-GP model had a significant effect on creative thinking ability with a value of F (1,65) = 32.644, p < 0.001 and written communication ability with a value of F (1,66) = 47.259, p < 0.001. In conclusion, the application of the Li-Pro-GP learning model has an effect in improving the creative thinking and written communication ability of junior high school students.

Abstract

21st century learning demands the development of metacognitive awareness and problem-solving skills, but science learning in schools is still predominantly teacher-centered. This study aims to determine the effect of the Li-Pro-GP learning model (project-based literacy integrated with school literacy movement and character education) on metacognitive awareness and problem solving skills in Biology science learning. The research used a quantitative approach with a non-equivalent control group quasi-experimental design. The sample consisted of VIII grade students in one of the private junior high schools in East Java, with VIII A as the control and VIII B as the experiment. The research instruments used included questionnaires to measure metacognitive awareness, essay questions to assess problem solving skills, and observation sheets to assess learning implementation. Data analysis was conducted using ANCOVA with the help of SPSS 26. The post-test results showed higher scores in the experimental class than the control for both variables. ANCOVA test showed a significant effect of Li-Pro-GP model on metacognitive awareness [F(1,57) = 129.926, p = 0.000, ηp² = 0.695] and problem solving skills [F(1,57) = 81.481, p = 0.000, ηp² = 0.588]. The results of the analysis showed a significant difference and a large effect size, so it can be concluded that the Li-Pro-GP model can improve students' metacognitive awareness and problem solving skills in learning Biological Science.

Abstract

Misconceptions are a condition where students have a mismatch between personal and scientific concepts that influence the learning process. Efforts to identify misconceptions using the Four-Tier Multiple Choice (4TMC) Diagnostic instrument. The aim of the research was to develop the 4TMC diagnostic instrument to identify misconceptions and types of misconceptions of Class VII students regarding the classification of living things. Type of research Research & Development. The research was carried out October 2021-March 2022 at one of the State Middle Schools in Magetan Regency, Indonesia. Subject 4TMC students 197 Class VII students. Data collection techniques using tests and non-tests. Non-test instruments in the research include teacher interview sheets and expert validation sheets. Meanwhile, the test instruments include the two-tier open ended and 4TMC tests. The research results showed that the assessment by experts and teachers obtained a feasible instrument. Testing the validity of the question items obtained 43 valid questions with a reliability degree of 0.848. The questions consist of 10 difficult questions and 33 medium questions. Furthermore, 6 different power questions were poor, 13 different power questions were sufficient and 24 different power questions were very good. Apart from that, the results of the misconception test showed that 47% of students had moderate misconceptions, 28% understood the concept, 17% did not understand the concept and 7% made errors. The types of misconceptions that occur among students include three forms, namely classificational misconceptions 44%, correlational misconceptions 33% and theoretical misconceptions 13%. The results of instrument development can be used again to identify misconceptions and types by teachers or future researchers.

Abstract

Dissemination of news through social media is one of the biggest causes of increasing student’s trust in pseudoscience. The purpose of this correlational study was to analyze the relationship between belief in science and pseudoscience beliefs related to biology in high school students. This research entails a correlational study conducted through a survey methodology. The results of the study show that the ability to believe in science has a significant effect on students' belief in pseudoscience related to biology for high school students. Based on the research, the initial hypothesis of the study was rejected, that there is a positive relationship between belief in science and belief in pseudoscience related to biology, thus indicating that increasing students' confidence in science will also increase students' confidence in pseudoscience related to biology. This is due to the continuous spread of unscientific issues through social media which will affect the increase in trust in pseudoscience. The increase in pseudoscience is due to the lack of student media literacy so that it can affect the way students respond to news that is on social media. The lack of education regarding students' media literacy is a factor in increasing students' confidence in pseudoscience related to biology for high school students.
