Abstract

Usually, commodities shift occurs from food crops to commercial crops, such as horticulture with the aim of improving the welfare of farmer’s life. However, a different situation happened in Sedong Subdistrict, Cirebon Regency where mango farmers switched to paddy cultivation which is a non commercial crop. Most mango farmers began to abandon mango cultivation and made paddy cultivation as their main livelihood. Therefore this research aimed at analyzing the factors underlying the farmer’s decisions to abandon or continue mango cultivation and describing the potential and constraints of mango cultivation. Samples taken were 65 farmers in Sedong Subdistrict, Cirebon Regency consisting of 30 present-grower of mango who also experienced paddy cultivation and 35 past-grower of mango who switched to paddy cultivation. The research method used is the survey research method with data analysis using descriptive statistics and crosstabulation analysis with the fisher exact test. The results showed that the factors related to the farmer's decision to abandon or continue mango cultivation consisted of age, farmer's perception of mango cultivation, risk taking attitude, land tenure status, land area, and farmer group membership. Mango farming has easy transportation in the marketing activities provided by traders, as well as ease of access to credit bunt only for large scale farmers. The constraints felt by farmers in conducting mango farming consist of limited capital for small farmers,

Abstract

The rapid growth of modern markets in Indonesia is an opportunity for farmers to expand the marketing of their farming businesses, including mango farmers. By marketing agricultural products in modern markets, farmers can increase their income, because the profits from selling mangoes in modern markets are greater than the profits from selling mangoes in traditional markets. However, in reality farmers still have difficulty penetrating the modern market. This phenomenon also occurs in mango farming in Indramayu, Majalengka and Kuningan Regencies. Based on this, this research aims to compare the marketing capacity of mangoes from Majalengka, Indramayu and Kuningan Regencies to modern markets. The method used in this research is a quantitative method with a questionnaire as an instrument in obtaining primary data, as well as the use of the Kruskal-Wallis method as a data analysis tool in this research. The research results show that overall, Indramayu Regency shows characteristics of more prosperous farmers and better marketing capacity compared to Majalengka and Kuningan. Majalengka Regency is superior in yield per tree and timing of harvest, while Kuningan has the best mango quality but lower marketing capacity than the other two districts. It is hoped that this research can provide a clear picture of the effectiveness of the marketing strategies implemented and the challenges faced by each district to increase their marketing capacity.Key-words: marketing capacity, modern market, mango farmers, mango farming

Abstract

The Citarum River plays an important role for the people of West Java Province. However, the condition of the Citarum River continues to decline due to various problems that arise in the upstream and downstream parts of the river. In response, the government implemented the Citarum Harum program to address the environmental issues along the Citarum River basin. The success of this government-initiated program requires active participation from the community. This study aims to analyze the factors associated with the level of community participation in the Citarum Harum program in Padamulya Village, Majalaya District, Bandung Regency. A quantitative design with a survey technique was employed for this study. A total of 51 randomly selected residents of Padamulya Village constituted the respondents in this study. Data were analyzed through Spearman Rank correlation analysis. The results indicated that community awareness, ability, opportunities provided, perceived benefits, and the figure of the leader were positively correlated with the level of community participation. These results suggest the importance of maintaining and improving these factors as a means of increasing community participation in the Citarum Harum program.

Abstract

West Java is one of the provinces that has potential for mango cultivation because it has a climate that is suitable for this plant. However, in 2023 there will be a decline in mango production, followed by an increase in the level of mango consumption in Indonesia, which is indicated to be influenced by the way farmers cultivate mango plants. The aim of this research is to identify farmer characteristics and relate mango cultivation techniques to farmer income in two mango production centers in West Java, namely Majalengka and Cirebon. The research method used is descriptive statistics and non-parametric tests. Respondent selection used a two-stage stratified sampling technique. The sample for this research was 258 mango farmers in Majalengka and Cirebon. The research results show that the majority of mango farmers in Majalengka and Cirebon have a productive age range of 45 - 60 years with an elementary school education level and their main job is as mango farmers. Meanwhile, judging from the cultivation techniques, the majority of mango farmers in Majalengka and Cirebon plant mangoes in gardens/fields with the majority of farmers in Majalengka implementing a polyculture planting pattern, while Cirebon is more dominant in implementing a monoculture planting pattern with the gedong gincu variety as the main variety. Then, the majority of mango farmers in Majalengka and Cirebon have implemented off season technology in their mango cultivation activities. Mango farmers who have a risk-averse nature carry out harvesting independently and control pests. The majority of mango farmers use pesticides as a means of controlling pests. Then, there is a significant relationship between planting location, use of off season technology, and pest control and farmer income in Majalengka and Cirebon.Key-words: Mango cultivation techniques, farmer income, planting location, off season technology, pest control.

Abstract

One of the leading agricultural commodities in Indonesia is mango fruit. Apart from being rich in health benefits, this commodity also has high economic value. West Java Province is one of the provinces with the highest mango production in Indonesia. This can happen because West Java has mango production center areas, one of these areas is Majalengka Regency. Even though the mango commodity in this Regency has relatively high economic potential, in the field the income of business actors often fluctuates. Based on this explanation, this research aims to analyze the factors that influence mango farming income in Majalengka Regency using the multiple linear regression method. Data was collected through a survey of 130 mango farmers using a questionnaire. The results of the analysis show that the total land area has a significant negative effect on income, while the total number of mango trees and average capital per year have a significant positive effect. Other factors such as training frequency, highest yield from one tree, and farmer age also have a positive influence on income, although not significant. The F test shows that the regression model is significant and can be used to predict mango farming income with an R Square value of 0.852716.  Key-words: income, mango farming business, multiple linear regression, majalengka regency, income factors.

Abstract

Mekarasih is one of the pioneering tourist villages in the Jatigede Reservoir Area of Sumedang Regency which has the potential to be managed as an agrotourism village because of its strategic location on the edge of the reservoir and the potential of its natural resources. The problem in this area is the conversion of rice fields into reservoir waters, thereby reducing agricultural activities as a source of livelihood for the population. Therefore, the solution offered is to develop agro-edutourism that combines agricultural and tourism activities. The Binaraja Millenial Smart Farming (BMSF) Community and the management of SMP Bina Harapan Jatigede are an important part of the development of agro-edutourism in Mekarasih village. This community service (PKM) aims to empower communities based on local resources. Community service is carried out through three stages of activity, namely preparation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. Community service uses lecture methods, FGD, simulations and practice in making a site plan for an agro-edutourism garden located in the SMP Bina Harapan Jatigede area. The results of the activity show that the PKM target partners are able to understand the concept of agro-edutourism, can prepare agro-edutourism planning according to the characteristics of local resource potential and create agro-edutourism site plan designs. It is hoped that the site plan will be used as a basis for planning to build various tourism support facilities based on the concept of sustainable community-based agro-edutourism.

Abstract

The food and beverage industry contributes significantly to the Indonesian economy. The fermented beverage market is growing due to consumer awareness of health. Recently, there has been a development in non-dairy fermented products, one example of a popular fermented drink is tepache. Tepache fermented drinks have the potential to become a business because in addition to utilizing waste, Indonesia also has the potential for local fruit. By applying production skills, packaging and storage technology, business management, and good marketing will support business potential. This community service program seeks to advocate marketing innovation and business opportunities. Because there are still obstacles, the product packaging currently used is less attractive to customers and there are still many prospective buyers who do not know the products and businesses of the Al-Qur'an garden due to the lack of information dissemination. The method used is Focus Group Discussion (FGD) for advocacy of marketing innovation and calculation of Production Cost for advocacy of business opportunities. The results obtained are packaging using cans that can maintain the quality and integrity of the product and informative packaging design to provide information effectively to customers and promotion through social media. In addition, tepache fermented drinks have promising business opportunities because the market is still open and the price range is in accordance with the health benefits offered by tepache fermented drinks.
