Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to assess the impact of an experiential learning based training on organic food cultivation in increasing family food security, while also exploring the potential for behavior change and economic resilience. Employing a qualitative research design, the study used case study method. Participants engaged in an experiential learning program designed to impart skills and knowledge in organic food cultivation. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation study, and analyzed using thematic analysis triangulation. The findings highlight the participants' evolving perceptions of the link between organic food cultivation and family food security within the unique urban environment. The training resulted in shifts in consumption patterns and dietary habits within families, fostering healthier choices. Furthermore, the cultivation of organic produce contributed to family finances, reducing expenditure on purchased produce. The study underscores the impact of experiential learning in fostering practical skills and behavior change in an urban community setting. The research contributes to the understanding of how experiential learning interventions can positively influence family food security within specific urban localities. This study suggests that integrating experiential learning approaches into training initiatives can empower urban families to cultivate their own organic produce.

Abstract

Mangroves are vital ecosystems in combating climate change, primarily through their exceptional capacity for carbon sequestration and long-term storage. To effectively manage and conserve these valuable resources, accurate carbon stock mapping is crucial. Given the inherent variability of mangrove biophysical characteristics, selecting appropriate mapping methodologies is essential. This study aimed to evaluate two distinct approaches: regression modeling using satellite-derived vegetation indices and kriging interpolation, within the Angke Kapuk mangrove area of Jakarta. Regression models were constructed utilizing forest canopy density (FCD) and its constituent indices (derived from Landsat 8), alongside normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), advanced vegetation index (AVI), and soil adjusted vegetation index (SAVI) from Sentinel 2A, as predictor variables. Field-based carbon stock data, obtained from 50 square plots (10 m × 10 m) using established allometric models, served as the response variable. The study revealed substantial heterogeneity in carbon storage, ranging from 34.76 to 236.87 tons/ha, with a mean of 135.31 tons/ha and a standard deviation of 50.09 tons/ha. Regression modelling, however, demonstrated limited predictive power, achieving a maximum R² value of only 0.03, indicating a poor fit between the predictor variables and observed carbon stocks. Kriging interpolation yielded moderate accuracy, as evidenced by a coefficient of variation of root mean square error (CV RMSE) of 0.39. This disparity in performance can be attributed to several factors, including the homogeneity of the rehabilitated mangrove canopy, which limited the ability of vegetation indices to accurately represent carbon stock variations. Furthermore, kriging's capacity to model spatial autocorrelation proved advantageous in this context. Based on these findings, this paper discusses the influence of mangrove characteristics on modelling performance and provides practical recommendations for area managers regarding future carbon stock mapping initiatives.

Abstract

The quality of elementary education is largely determined by teachers’ professional competence; however, many elementary school teachers still face challenges in mastering subject matter, managing classrooms, and utilizing instructional technology. One strategic effort to address these issues is through the principals’ management of academic supervision that is well-planned, systematic, and sustainable. This study aims to analyze the management of academic supervision by principals in improving teachers’ professional competence at SDN Cikareo and SDN Margasari, Cidaun District, Cianjur Regency. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis, then analyzed using data reduction, data display, and verification with triangulation. The findings revealed that at SDN Cikareo, academic supervision was scheduled and implemented according to the program, but the follow-up stage after observation remained largely administrative. In contrast, at SDN Margasari, academic supervision was more flexible but less structured and poorly documented. The main obstacles encountered included limited time, low teacher motivation, and a school culture that had not fully supported supervision. Solutions undertaken by principals included careful planning, dialogic supervision with reflective feedback, and fostering a positive school culture. The study concludes that principals’ academic supervision management plays a strategic role in enhancing teachers’ professional competence, particularly in subject mastery, pedagogical skills, and classroom management, which ultimately contributes positively to the quality of learning in elementary schools.
