Abstract

The ability to be assertive is an important aspect in the life of every individual, including for women who are victims of domestic violence (DV). Assertiveness reflects a person's ability to convey thoughts, feelings, and needs honestly and firmly without violating the rights of others. In the context of domestic violence, this ability is often hampered by trauma, emotional dependence, and social pressure. This study aims to explore and describe forms of assertive behavior in women who are victims of domestic violence and to assess the quality of the measurement instruments used. This study involved 64 female respondents who experienced domestic violence, using an assertiveness scale specifically designed to understand psychological dynamics in the context of domestic violence. Data analysis was carried out using the Rasch polytomy model approach with the help of WINSTEPS software version 5.50. The results of the study showed that the instrument used had good validity in identifying various levels of assertiveness, ranging from very low to very high. These findings provide important insights for practitioners, such as counselors, psychologists, and social workers, to set service priorities and design more effective intervention approaches. This study also reinforces the importance of a psychometric approach in developing instruments that are sensitive to the context of gender-based violence.

Abstract

Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) causes individuals to focus excessively on physical flaws, thus reducing self-confidence and belief in their abilities. This low self-confidence can trigger career anxiety, as individuals feel their appearance is a barrier to competing and adapting in the workplace. However, since evidence on the relationship between BDD and career-related psychological outcomes among students remains fragmented, little is known about how body image concerns specifically influence students’ readiness and confidence in pursuing their future careers. This study aims to determine the effect of BDD on the level of career anxiety of students. The method used is quantitative correlation. The research sample was 310 randomly selected students. Data analysis in this study used simple linear regression. The results showed a significant influence between BDD and career anxiety. The higher the level of BDD, the higher the career anxiety experienced by students. New findings from this study reveal that social media factors, social pressure, and family expectations can exacerbate the impact of BDD on students' career readiness. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of Guidance and Counseling services in addressing students' body image issues and career anxiety holistically and preventatively.

Abstract

The global phenomenon of father absence significantly affects children's psychological, academic, and social development. This study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach to pinpoint and consolidate the patterns and causes of father absence worldwide. We searched four primary databases Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, Google Scholar and found 253 articles. Following a screening process based on the PRISMA inclusion and exclusion criteria, we selected ten articles for detailed analysis. The synthesis reveals that factors such as labor migration, marital conflict, patriarchal cultural standards, and unsupportive social policies contribute to father absence. The impacts include children's reduced emotional well-being, lower academic achievement, and poorer social adjustment. These results support the idea that father absence is a multifaceted issue influenced not just by individual factors but also by structural and cultural elements. As such, inclusive policies and societal changes that promote fathers' emotional engagement and equal parenting duties are essential.
