Abstract

One of the factors in achieving student learning outcomes is scientific reasoning abilities (Scientific Reasoning) which will help students understand the main concepts of science. However, the PISA study categorized Indonesian students' scientific reasoning abilities as low, ranking 70th out of 78 countries in science and mathematics. This research aims to develop LKPD based on Learning Cycle 5E assisted by PhET Simulation that is valid, practical and effective. The type of research developed is Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE model. The research subjects were students of class IX semester 1 at SMPN 1 Jenggawah. The research data was analyzed based on several criteria. The results of the LKPD development obtained validity test results with a score of 91% (very valid). The practicality test results obtained an average score of 92.5% (practical). The results of the effectiveness test obtained an average N-Gain of 0.67 (medium). Based on the research findings, LKPD based on Learning Cycle 5E assisted by PhET Simulation can provide innovation in learning resources as an alternative to improve the scientific reasoning abilities of junior high school students.

Abstract

Development and Validation of Google Sites Technology-Assisted Student Worksheet to Increase Students’ Collaboration Skills in Science Learning in Junior High School. This research is based on the problem of collaboration skills of students in class VIII F SMP Negeri 6 Jember which is still low in science learning conducted by observation. One way to overcome this is to develop E-LKPD assisted by Google Sites to improve students' collaboration skills. The purpose of the study was to examine the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of E-LKPD assisted by Google Sites to enhance student collaboration skills in science learning. The research design uses Research and Development (R&D) with the Plomp development model which includes preliminary research, prototyping stage, and evaluation stage. Products that have been developed, get a validation score of 94% with a very valid category. Practicality is 96.83% with a very practical category. The effectiveness of E-LKPD is 63% with the results of the N-gain test with a moderate category, 77% self-assessment with a high category in collaboration, and 88% student response questionnaire with a very good category. The results of this study can conclude that E-LKPD assisted by Google Sites can be said to be valid, practical, and effective in learning science in junior high school.

Abstract

This study investigates the hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) process of Dimocarpus longan peel for the development of a selective and regenerable adsorbent for cationic dye removal. The hydrochar was synthesized at 190°C with varying carbonization durations (4–12 hours) and characterized using XRD and FTIR analysis. XRD analysis revealed the formation of an amorphous carbon phase, particularly at longer HTC durations, with the most optimized structure observed at 10 hours. FTIR spectra confirmed that hydrothermal carbonization preserved the primary functional groups while modifying their intensity. Adsorption experiments using a binary dye system (malachite green-MG and rhodamine B-RhB) demonstrated that the hydrochar exhibited higher selectivity for MG, achieving a removal efficiency of 81.78%, compared to 41.88% for RhB. Desorption studies indicated that ethanol and acetone were the most effective desorbing agents, with desorption efficiencies of 18.99% and 18.14%, respectively, while water and acidic conditions showed minimal dye release. Regeneration tests revealed a gradual decline in adsorption capacity over three cycles, with removal efficiencies decreasing from 73.23% to 42.17%, indicating partial loss of adsorption sites and possible structural degradation. These findings suggest that Dimocarpus longan peel-derived hydrochar, particularly at 10-hour HTC processing, is a promising adsorbent for selective cationic dye removal. However, further optimization of regeneration techniques is necessary to improve its reusability and long-term performance.

Abstract

Abstract

Scientific communication is defined as verbal communication that is related to investigation. Science learning has an important part in the scientific communication skills that learners must have, which involves a scientific approach whose stages include observing, questioning, collecting data, evaluating data, and expressing conclusions. Scientific communication has an important role to be mastered by learners to succeed in science disciplines. This study aims to identify STEM-SDGs-based Students’ Worksheets used by students in supporting scientific communication skills on temperature, heat, and expansion material and analyze the scientific communication skills of junior high school students in discussing SDGs issues related to temperature, heat, and expansion. The method in this research uses a qualitative approach with a single case study research type. This research was conducted at MTSN 2 Jember in the odd semester of the 2024/2025 school year. The results showed that the application of STEM-SDGs-based Students’ Worksheets played a role in improving students' scientific communication skills. This is because the STEM-SDGs-based Students’ Worksheets has been prepared by 25% to support each indicator. The STEM approach that integrates various disciplines encourages students to actively participate and discuss, thus strengthening their understanding of complex scientific concepts. Based on the analysis of students' scientific communication skills after using the STEM-SDGs-based Students’ Worksheets, it was found that the highest student condition was in the fourth indicator, namely representation form (86%) with a very good category. While the lowest student condition in the third indicator, namely the use of scientific terms (code), which tends to be low with a deficient category (72%). The interview results show that students understand concepts related to SDGs and can explain scientific phenomena, but still use colloquial language rather than appropriate scientific terms.        Keywords: scientific communication, STEM, SDGs, temperature, heat, expansion.
