Abstract

Breast cancer is a global health issue and one of the leading causes of death among women in Indonesia, accounting for approximately 65% of cases. Various factors, such as lifestyle, genetics, and delayed diagnosis, contribute to the high mortality rate. This study aims to analyze the application of triple diagnosis, which includes clinical examination, ultrasound, and histopathology in the diagnosis of breast tumors at Ibnu Sina Hospital in Makassar. This study used an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. A total sampling method was applied to all breast tumor patients who underwent clinical examination, ultrasonography, and histopathological examination during 2023–2024. Data were obtained from medical records and analyzed descriptively using frequencies and percentages. The association between clinical examination, ultrasonography, and histopathological findings was assessed using the Chi-square test. The results showed that most patients were young women and that benign tumors were more common than malignant tumors. Clinical examination and ultrasonography findings were predominantly benign. Histopathological examination showed that fibroadenoma mammae was the most common benign tumor, while invasive breast carcinoma of no special type was the most common malignant tumor. The Chi-square test showed a significant association between clinical examination, ultrasonography, and histopathological findings. These findings indicate diagnostic concordance among the three examination methods and support the role of integrated diagnostic assessment in assisting clinical decision-making for breast tumor management.

Abstract

The third trimester is a phase of pregnancy that is prone to increased anxiety before delivery, and spirituality is thought to play an essential role in helping to reduce this anxiety. This study aims to analyze the relationship between spirituality levels and anxiety levels in pregnant women in the third trimester. This study employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach and was conducted at RSIA Sitti Khadijah 1, Muhammadiyah Branch, Makassar, from November 10 to December 8, 2025. This study employed a total sampling approach to recruit 31 pregnant women in the third trimester who met the inclusion criteria. Spirituality levels were measured using the Daily Spiritual Experience Scale (DSES), and anxiety levels were measured using the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7). The results showed that most respondents had minimal anxiety levels (77.4%) and high spirituality levels (83.9%). The correlation test results showed a significant relationship between spirituality levels and anxiety levels (p = 0.000). This study suggests that higher spirituality is associated with lower anxiety levels. Therefore, it can be concluded that spirituality plays a vital role in helping pregnant women manage anxiety before childbirth and can be considered as part of a holistic approach to antenatal care.

Abstract

Background: Cesarean section (CS) is a delivery method that continues to increase and carries a risk of complications, one of which is surgical wound infection (SWI). SWI can hinder healing and increase morbidity. Risk factors for infection include preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative conditions, necessitating analysis to prevent postoperative complications. Purpose: To identify risk factors for surgical site infection in Cesarean section procedures and to determine the association between nutritional status, hemoglobin levels, and wound care with the occurrence of surgical site infection. Method: This study is an observational analytical study using a cross-sectional approach conducted at RSIA Sitti Khadijah 1 Muhammadiyah Makassar from March to June 2025. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Chi-square test at a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: There was a significant association between several risk factors and the occurrence of postoperative wound infections following Cesarean section. Based on bivariate analysis, nutritional status, hemoglobin (Hb) levels, wound care, and type of cesarean section procedure were found to influence the occurrence of postoperative wound infections. However, although the duration of surgery showed a statistical association, the data obtained were not varied, so a definitive conclusion regarding the relationship between surgery duration and postoperative wound infections after cesarean section could not be drawn. Conclusion: Nutritional status, hemoglobin levels, wound care, and type of cesarean section are factors associated with the occurrence of postoperative wound infections after cesarean section. These findings highlight the importance of attention to maternal nutritional status, hemoglobin levels, wound care standards, and the selection of Cesarean section type in efforts to prevent postoperative infections. A comprehensive evaluation of these factors is necessary to minimize the risk of complications and improve patient safety.

Abstract

Uterus didelphys is an uncommon Müllerian duct anomaly that may be overlooked when one hemiuterus is gravid and the contralateral hemiuterus is mistaken for a leiomyoma. We report a 25-year-old G5P2A2 woman who presented with one week of vaginal bleeding, reduced fetal movement, lower abdominal pain, and absent fetal heart activity. A prior two-dimensional ultrasound had described a uterine myoma, and no three-dimensional ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging had been performed. At emergency cesarean delivery, two distinct uterine bodies were identified, confirming uterus didelphys; the clinical record also documented cervical duplication. A 1300-g female fetus was delivered without signs of life, and no corrective metroplasty was performed. This case emphasizes that two-dimensional ultrasonography may be insufficient when uterine contour is atypical and that definitive characterization requires assessment of both the internal cavity and external fundal contour, preferably with three-dimensional transvaginal ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging. Although uterus didelphys does not necessarily reduce fertility, it is associated with higher risks of preterm birth, malpresentation, cesarean delivery, and other adverse perinatal outcomes. Preconception anatomical confirmation, early pregnancy surveillance, and individualized counseling are therefore essential in subsequent pregnancies.
