Abstract

Abstract

Early laboratory confirmation is important for the accurate diagnosis and treatment of patient infected by leptospirosis. However, Microscopic agglutination test (MAT) as the gold standard for detection of human leptospirosis has many limitation and only available in reference laboratories. Therefore, many studies suggested LipL32 protein as a good candidate for development of leptospirosis detection kit because it is highly conserved and produced only in pathogenic Leptospira species. In this study, we aim to investigate the performance of our in-house ELISA using recombinant LipL32 to detect leptospirosis in Indonesia. Fourteen human sera were used in this study and the infection status were determine using MAT. The result showed that nine of eleven MAT positive sera were successfully recognized by LipL32 ELISA. The antibody binding to LipL32 was also confirm by immunoblot. There was one of three MAT negative sera has high OD above 0.5 in ELISA, but it showed negative reaction in immunoblot result. Overall, this study demonstrated that recombinant LipL32 protein can recognized antibody from human leptospirosis and can be used as a universal antigen to detect infection by any serovars of pathogenic leptospira.

Abstract

Purpose: Economic growth in coastal and maritime areas is significantly influenced by electricity availability, efficiency, and sustainability. This study examines the amount of electricity used and its relationship with economic growth. in the maritime communities of the Batam City. Methodology/approach: This study uses a quantitative empirical approach based on secondary data from PLN Batam, BPS, and the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Service for the 2015–2024 period. Multiple linear regression and Granger causality tests were used to examine the relationship between electricity consumption and Batam's maritime economic growth. Results/findings: Electricity consumption has a positive and significant impact on maritime economic growth; a 1% increase in electricity consumption increases GDP by 0.63%, with a two-way causal relationship between electricity and the economic growth of coastal communities. Conclusions: Electricity consumption has been shown to be strongly and significantly related to Batam City's maritime economic growth, particularly in the industrial and fisheries sectors. The increasing electricity demand in line with economic growth until 2030 has the potential to put pressure on the electricity system, making energy efficiency a key strategy to ensure sustainable economic growth, energy security, and environmental impact management. Limitations: These findings emphasize the importance of reliable, efficient, and affordable electricity supply policies for supporting maritime-based economic development in Batam. Contributions: The study also recommends building renewable energy systems, such as solar power plants along the coast, as a good long-term plan to help support the blue economy sustainably. and the energy security of maritime communities.

Abstract

This study analyzes the capacity of the Satuan Polisi Pamong Praja (Satpol PP) and Pemadam kebakaran (Damkar) of Sukabumi City in enforcing regulations Pedagang Kaki Lima (PKL) trading in prohibited areas, as stipulated in Sukabumi City Regional Regulation No. 10 of 2013, Pasal 21. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were gathered through interviews with officials (Cikole, Diskumindag), PKL, residents of R. Syamsudin SH Street, observations, and documentation. Policy capacity was measured using five dimensions from Horton et al. (2003): human resources, infrastructure-technology-financial resources, strategic leadership, program management and implementation processes, and collaboration networks. Findings reveal limitations in human resources (personnel shortages, multifunctional rotations, short operational hours); outdated infrastructure (aging vehicles, limited CCTV, reliance on e-lapor); adaptive strategic leadership via daily briefings and school socialization despite flexible relocations; phased management (persuasion, tiered warnings, UMKM coaching); and inter-agency networks (with Dishub, Police, sub-districts) requiring enhanced joint sweeps in high-risk zones like Ahmad Yani and seven prohibited streets. Key challenges include vendor resistance (high relocation costs), banner damage, budget constraints, and low e-lapor awareness. Recommendations emphasize training enhancements, infrastructure renewal, consistent evaluation cycles, monthly meetings, and digital socialization for sustainable enforcement.

Abstract

Abstract This study examines multi-sector collaboration in addressing slum settlements in Sukabumi City, focusing on cooperation mechanisms among government agencies, communities, NGOs, and the private sector, as well as obstacles related to initial conditions, institutional design, and facilitative leadership. A qualitative case study approach was employed, with data collected through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, field observations, and policy document analysis. Data were thematically analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The findings show that the reduction of slum areas from 260.53 hectares in 2021 to 162.78 hectares in 2024 was mainly driven by partial physical interventions. Multi-sector collaboration has not been optimal due to sectoral dominance, weak institutional arrangements, inconsistent coordination forums, limited community capacity, and facilitative leadership that is not yet integrated. Slum management therefore requires stronger binding institutional designs, permanent cross-sector coordination forums, and sustainable facilitative leadership across sectors.
