Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of affixation in enriching the vocabulary of the Lampung language through an analysis of the children's literary work Anak Liman Sai Murah Hati by Nia Kartika Sari (2024). This study was motivated by the decline in the use of the Lampung language among the younger generation, which necessitates efforts to preserve regional languages through attractive and educational media such as children's stories. This study seeks to understand how the process of affixation contributes to the formation of new words and grammatical meanings that enrich the Lampung lexicon. The study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with text analysis methods. Data were obtained from bilingual children's story texts and explained through the stages of identification, classification, and interpretation of affixation forms, including prefixes, suffixes, and confixes. Data validity was maintained through triangulation analysis of theory and peer discussion to ensure accurate and contextual results. The results of the study show that the process of affixation in the Lampung language includes the use of prefixes (bu-, be-, te-, di-, je-), suffixes (-ni, -ku, -lah, -an), and confixes (ke-…-an, nge-…-ki, ku-…-ki). Each affix has a grammatical function while also strengthening the expressive and aesthetic value of literary texts. Affixation plays an important role in creating word form variations and enriching vocabulary relevant to the cultural context and the world of children.

Abstract

Objective: Abstract This study aims to uncover the moral values and forms of local wisdom contained in Pepaccur, a form of oral literature of the Lampung people that serves as a medium for conveying advice, communication, and social ethical guidelines. Using a qualitative descriptive method with a sociology of literature approach, this study examines several Pepaccur texts obtained through documentation and interviews with cultural practitioners. The analysis focused on identifying the moral values emerging in these oral expressions and their relationship to the Lampungnese philosophy of life, Piil Pesenggiri. The results reveal that Pepaccur encompasses moral values of piety to God, politeness, social solidarity, and wisdom in social interactions. These values reflect elements of local wisdom such as nemui nyimah (love), nengah nyappur (grace), sakai (grace), and juluk adek (dear sister), which serve as ethical guidelines for the Lampung people in maintaining social harmony and order. Thus, Pepaccur is not only a form of oral art but also a cultural representation that serves to preserve and transmit moral values between generations

Abstract

Language plays a crucial role in developing children's social skills from an early age. The family is the first and most influential environment for language acquisition and the development of children's pragmatic abilities. This study aims to describe the forms and functions of assertive speech acts used by children in family interactions and to understand the factors influencing their use. This study employed a qualitative descriptive method with a discourse analysis approach. Data were obtained through direct observation, recordings of natural conversations between children and their families, and informal interviews with family members. The analysis was based on the assertive speech act theory proposed by Searle (1979). The results show that children use assertive speech acts in various forms, such as expressing opinions, providing information directly, and politely refusing requests. These utterances reflect children's ability to convey thoughts, feelings, and facts clearly and logically. The primary factor influencing the use of assertive speech acts is open and supportive family communication patterns. Therefore, the family environment plays a crucial role in shaping children's assertive language skills.

Abstract

This study explores kias, a form of oral literature that is part of the traditional oral heritage of the Lampung Sai Batin community, which holds significant cultural, moral, and educational value. Kias is a type of traditional poetic expression that conveys messages of advice, religious teachings, and life values, typically delivered orally during various customary events such as weddings, traditional dances, and social gatherings. However, its use is increasingly marginalized, particularly among the younger generation. The aim of this research is to examine the structure, functions, and potential of kias as a medium for cultural preservation and character education in schools. The findings reveal that kias has a distinctive stanza structure rich in meaning and can be integrated into Lampung language education through interactive and contextual methods. Moreover, kias proves effective in reinforcing moral values, language skills, and cultural identity. Its application in education also encourages students to explore culture, conduct mini-research projects, and engage in creative expression. Therefore, kias serves not only as a preserved cultural heritage but also as a strategic tool in shaping character and fostering young people's appreciation for their local culture.

Abstract

This research aims to describe and analyze the preservation strategies of Lampung Culture amidst the challenges of globalization and modernity. Lampung Culture, rooted in the life philosophy of Piil Pesenggiri (which embodies Juluk Adek (self-esteem and traditional title), Nemui Nyimah (hospitality), Nengah Nyappur (sociability and equality), and Sakai Sambayan (mutual cooperation)), is facing the threat of value erosion due to the domination of global popular culture. Globalization, defined as the intensification of worldwide social relations, brings about value homogenization that potentially displaces authentic local traditions. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with research locations in Tulang Bawang, Central Lampung, and South Lampung Regencies, representing the Saibatin and Pepadun indigenous communities. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation (such as in the Begawi and Cangget Agung ceremonies), and documentation. Data analysis utilized the Miles and Huberman model (data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing). The results indicate that the preservation of Lampung culture is manifested through three main forms: (1) the preservation of philosophical customary values through the practice of Piil Pesenggiri, (2) the preservation of regional language and arts in schools and traditional ceremonies, and (3) digitalization and cultural promotion through the utilization of social media and creative content.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms and meanings of onomatopoeia found in the novel Perfect Partner by Lea Armelia and to explain their semantic functions within the context of the story. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method using the reading and note-taking technique to collect data in the form of onomatopoeic words that appear in the novel’s text. The data were analyzed using the referential equivalent method by considering the contextual meanings and the situations surrounding their use. The results reveal two types of onomatopoeia: those that imitate inanimate sounds and those that imitate sounds occurring in the surrounding environment. The identified sound forms include ting, tok-tok, tut, brak, bruk, tak, bug, and plak. Through the use of these onomatopoeic expressions, the author successfully creates realistic and expressive effects that make readers feel as if they can hear the events directly. Semantically, the onomatopoeia in this novel function as markers of contextual meaning that enrich the aesthetic and linguistic value of the literary work.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the relationship between public speaking skills and the self-confidence of class VIII students at SMPN 3 Natar. The research method used is the correlation method with a quantitative approach. The population of this study consisted of 30 students, and all of them were sampled using saturated sampling techniques. Data was collected through a self-confidence questionnaire and a public speaking ability test which includes four indicators, namely courage to introduce oneself, appearing in front of the class, telling stories with gestures, and telling stories with facial expressions. The research results show that students' self-confidence level is in the "sufficient" category with a percentage of 59%, and their public speaking skills are also in the "sufficient" category with a percentage of 70%. The Spearman Rank correlation test produces a significance value of 0.042 <0.05, which means there is a significant relationship between self-confidence and students' public speaking abilities. Thus, the higher the student's level of self-confidence, the better their ability to speak in public.

Abstract

This study examines the role of1 greetings in shaping social identity, building a sense of group unity, and creating harmony among 2people in Lampung and Komering communities. In this context, greetings not only serve as conversation starters but also as tools to strengthen cultural rules, social hierarchical structures, and community integration in the Lampung region. This study uses a communication ethnography and discourse analysis approach. Data were collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews with local residents, and text analysis of daily interactions. The results show that in Lampung society, greetings tend to be formal and hierarchical, such as using the words "Pak" or "Bu" to show respect, while in Komering society, greetings are more free and emphasize equality and familiarity to strengthen relationships within the extended family. The constructive function of these greetings is seen in efforts to preserve traditions, reduce conflict, and adapt to changing times. This study helps to better understand Indonesian language culture and suggests steps to preserve traditional greetings so that they are not eroded by the impact of globalization.
