Abstract

Movies are popular with all age groups, including teenagers. For this reason, movies are often used as a medium for conveying a religious message. Thus, movies are not only for entertainment but also have a function of religious education. The film "Tarung Sarung" by Archie Hekagery has taken on this role. The purpose of this qualitative study is to investigate the content of the sermon messages in the film "Tarung Sarung". Using Roland Barthes ' semiotic model, the analysis is based on words and sentences. The investigation revealed that there are three main messages of the sermon, namely the message of faith (akidah), worship (ibadah), and moral behaviour (akhlak). The message of faith is about conveying belief in Allah, sincerity (ikhlas) and peace (salam). As for the worship aspect, there are messages related to the hijab in accordance with Islamic law, prayer (sholat), the values of gratitude, and sincerity in worship. Finally, moral behaviour includes various messages of kindness, such as the teachings of filial piety toward parents, etiquette, and the law of just rent.

Abstract

The concepts of Islamic education and da’wah have garnered significant scholarly interest; however, most prior research remains theoretical, lacking a detailed examination of how Islamic universities operationalize curricula to cultivate future da’wah leaders. This study fills that gap by investigating how Muhammadiyah Higher Education (MHE), Perguruan Tinggi Muhammadiyah (PTM), systematically prepares the next generation of da’is or preachers. Employing a qualitative-descriptive methodology, data were collected through document analysis, curriculum review, and semi-structured interviews with academic leaders. The analysis demonstrates that MHE has integrated Muhammadiyah values across its curricula and established a formal collaboration with the Asia Muslim Charity Foundation (AMCF) to strengthen students’ Arabic proficiency and Islamic literacy, competencies essential for da’wah roles. These innovative strategies show how MHE not only provides ideological formation but also technical preparation for da’wah practitioners. This article thus presents a concrete model of how an Islamic educational institution integrates da’wah within its academic structures, making both theoretical and practical contributions to the broader discourse on Islamic higher education.

Abstract

The professional certification program for amil zakat, initiated by the Ministryof Religious Affairs in collaboration with the Professional Certification Body(LSP) of BAZNAS RI, represents a strategic effort to strengthen Islamicphilanthropic da‘wah through enhanced professionalism and standardized competencies. This study examines how the certification program transforms the role of amils as agents of social da‘wah, and how collaboration between the state and professional institutions shapes a model for institutional strengthening within the zakat sector that affects the quality of public services. Employing a qualitative-descriptive approach and case studies conducted at three implementation sites (two in Jakarta and one in Semarang), this study finds that certification not only improves the technical capacity of amil in fundraising, management, and zakat reporting but also reinforces the public image of zakat institutions as accountable and modern entities. These findings affirm that competency standardization through amil zakat certification functions as an instrument of structural da‘wah, contributing to advancing national zakat governance and supporting the broader ecosystem of Islamic philanthropy in the development of Islamic civilization.
