Abstract

Purpose – This study develops and empirically validates a behavioral economics framework linking framing effect and mental accounting, through financial decisions, to perceived pension program effectiveness among female workers in Batam’s labor-intensive industries. It addresses the gender pension participation gap and the retirement vulnerability of women manufacturing workers, whose pension-related decisions remain insufficiently explained by conventional financial-literacy approaches. Methods – A sequential explanatory mixed-method design was used. Quantitative data were collected from 400 female workers through cluster sampling and analyzed using SPSS and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The quantitative phase was complemented by in-depth interviews with 40 purposively selected respondents, with interview data thematically analyzed to contextualize the structural findings.Findings – Framing effect and mental accounting significantly and positively influence financial decisions and perceived pension program effectiveness. Financial decisions also strongly predict perceived pension program effectiveness and partially mediate the effects of framing effect and mental accounting on the outcome construct. Qualitative findings show that many workers perceive pension contributions as “money that disappears,” lack a dedicated retirement mental account, and respond positively to future-self reframing and default-enrollment mechanisms.Research implications – The findings are limited by the single-city sample, cross-sectional design, and reliance on self-reported perceptual measures rather than verified enrollment behavior. Proposed policy directions require experimental validation through randomized field trials.Originality – This study provides an empirically validated, gender-responsive behavioral economics framework for pension policy design among female workers in Indonesian labor-intensive industries.

Abstract

Healthcare workers (HCWs) in remote archipelagic regions bear a disproportionate workload that threatens both their psychological wellbeing and the quality of primary care. This study examines the effect of workload on burnout and HCW performance at community health centres (Puskesmas) in remote island districts of Riau Islands Province, Indonesia, positioning organizational support as a moderating variable. Grounded in the Job Demands–Resources (JD-R) model, Conservation of Resources (COR) theory, and Organizational Support Theory (OST), a quantitative cross-sectional survey was administered to 186 HCWs across 18 Puskesmas in Natuna, Lingga, and Kepulauan Anambas, selected through proportionate stratified random sampling. Workload was measured with the NASA-Task Load Index, burnout with the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI-HSS), performance with a validated 20-item instrument, and organizational support with the Survey of Perceived Organizational Support. Moderated-mediation analysis (PROCESS Model 59, 5,000 bootstrap samples) showed that workload significantly increased burnout (β = 0.512, p < 0.001) and reduced performance (β = −0.374, p < 0.001), with burnout partially mediating the relationship (indirect effect = −0.189, 95% CI [−0.261, −0.121]). Organizational support significantly buffered both the workload–burnout path (β = −0.284, p = 0.003) and the workload–performance path (β = 0.231, p = 0.011). The study's novelty lies in demonstrating an actionable buffering mechanism in DTPK settings and proposing an integrated organizational-support intervention model as a policy solution. Because organizational support can be strengthened quickly and at low cost through supervisory responsiveness, workload rationalisation, recognition, and wellbeing support it provides district health offices in DTPK settings with a fast and affordable intervention lever to protect HCW performance where structural workforce solutions remain slow and costly.

Abstract

This study examines the predictive roles of digital financial literacy (DFL), financial stress (FS), financial self-efficacy (FSE), and peer influence (PI) in predicting predatory-lending vulnerability (PLV) among female industrial workers, a structurally exposed yet under-studied demographic within Indonesia's digital-credit ecosystem, where 6,991 illegal lending platforms were blocked between 2022 and 2024. A cross-sectional explanatory survey was administered to 378 female workers in three Batam integrated industrial estates using validated instruments (OECD/INFE DFL; Prawitz IFDFW; Lown FSES). Data were analyzed through PLS-SEM (SmartPLS 4) with bootstrapping (5,000 resamples), following STROBE reporting guidelines. All four hypotheses were supported (p < .001). The model explained 52.4% of the variance in PLV (Q² = .342). Financial stress was the strongest predictor (β = +.342), followed by peer influence (β = +.276), digital financial literacy (β = –.218), and financial self-efficacy (β = –.187), confirming a push-pull risk architecture. The single-region cross-sectional design limits causal inference and external validity, while self-reported use of illegal lenders likely understates the actual prevalence due to social desirability bias. The findings apply primarily to feminized manufacturing labor in Southeast Asian export zones. This study presents the first integrated PLS-SEM model testing cognitive, affective, psychological, and social predictors of predatory-lending vulnerability among Indonesian female industrial workers. It advances gender-sensitive financial-vulnerability research and provides rank-ordered evidence for demand-side interventions under OJK Regulation No. 11/2024, aligned with SDG 5 and SDG 8.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the legal certainty of electronic certificates as an instrument for protecting land rights and to examine their role in preventing land disputes in Indonesia. The development of digitalization of land administration through the implementation of electronic certificates is expected to improve data security, accelerate services, and minimize the risk of forgery, overlapping ownership, and administrative errors, which have been the main causes of land disputes. This study uses a normative legal research method with a statutory approach, a conceptual approach, and a case approach. Data were obtained through a literature review of laws and regulations, court decisions, and various scientific literature related to land law and the transformation of digital-based land services. The results show that electronic certificates have the same legal force as conventional certificates as long as they are issued in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. The electronic system also guarantees data authentication, integrity, and security, thereby strengthening legal certainty for land rights holders. However, the effectiveness of electronic certificates in preventing land disputes is still influenced by the readiness of technological infrastructure, the quality of land data validation, the competence of human resources, and the level of public trust in the digital system. Therefore, strengthening regulations, improving cybersecurity, and continuously updating land databases are important factors in realizing legal certainty and reducing the potential for land disputes in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of digital marketing on customer loyalty with customer satisfaction as an intervening variable among e-commerce users in Medan City. A quantitative approach was applied using non-probability sampling, specifically purposive sampling. The sample consisted of 130 respondents who are active e-commerce users in Medan City and have made at least three online transactions in the past six months. Data were collected through online questionnaires using a five-point Likert scale and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) with SmartPLS 4.0 software. The results show that: (1) digital marketing has a positive and significant effect on customer satisfaction (β = 0.718; p < 0.001); (2) customer satisfaction has a positive and significant effect on customer loyalty (β = 0.524; p < 0.001); (3) digital marketing has a positive and significant effect on customer loyalty (β = 0.289; p < 0.001); and (4) customer satisfaction partially mediates the effect of digital marketing on customer loyalty (β = 0.376; p < 0.001). The implication is that e-commerce actors serving the Medan City market need to optimize the digital marketing dimensions, namely cost, interactive, incentive program, site design, and informative, to build customer satisfaction, which will ultimately foster long-term customer loyalty.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the fairness of land acquisition compensation for communities affected by infrastructure development in Indonesia. The main focus of the study is to examine the gap between normative provisions mandating "fair and just" compensation and the reality of implementation on the ground, as well as to identify factors that often cause communities to feel disadvantaged in the land acquisition process. This study uses a juridical-normative method strengthened by an empirical approach. Data were collected through a literature review of laws and regulations, court decisions, and related policy documents, as well as in-depth interviews with affected communities, government officials, and land appraisers at several national strategic project locations. The results show that although the legal framework has regulated the principle of fairness, its implementation still faces various obstacles, including unclear assessment standards, weak transparency and community participation, limited appraisal resources, and minimal assistance for vulnerable groups. Fairness in compensation is not simply measured by nominal values; it must include procedural, distributive, and restorative justice. This study recommends the need for more measured regulatory reformulation, strengthening institutional capacity, and a transformative approach that prioritizes the recovery of the socio-economic conditions of affected communities, so that infrastructure development truly brings prosperity without leaving anyone behind.
