Abstract

Although student leadership development and teamwork training have received considerable attention in various previous studies, research that specifically discusses their role in increasing students’ self-confidence in the school environment remains limited. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of leadership and teamwork training in increasing students’ self-confidence. This study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design involving 35 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires, observation, and documentation and were then analyzed using descriptive statistics and a paired-sample t-test. The results showed that leadership and teamwork training significantly improved students’ self-confidence, communication skills, sense of responsibility, and collaborative attitudes. After participating in the training, students showed greater courage in expressing opinions, participating in group discussions, and taking on leadership roles. The conclusion of this study affirms that leadership and teamwork training play an important role in building students’ self-confidence and social competence in educational settings. These findings provide a theoretical contribution to the development of educational leadership and character education studies, as well as practical implications for educational institutions in designing experience-based leadership and teamwork training programs.

Abstract

Although traditional games have been widely studied in the context of physical education in elementary schools, studies that specifically discuss their use in Physical Education learning among PGSD students remain limited. This study aims to analyze the relevance of traditional games as a Physical Education learning strategy in PGSD, particularly in developing motor skills, pedagogical competence, character values, and the preservation of local wisdom. This study used a qualitative approach with a structured literature review design. Data sources were obtained from curriculum documents, PJOK learning guidelines, physical activity recommendations, and scientific articles relevant to traditional games, physical education, and learning in elementary schools. Data were collected through documentation techniques and analyzed using content analysis by grouping the findings into the themes of curricular relevance, learning benefits, implementation strategies, and implementation challenges. The findings show that traditional games are relevant for use as a contextual, active, enjoyable, and culture-based Physical Education learning strategy. Traditional games support the development of locomotor, non-locomotor, and manipulative movements, coordination, balance, cooperation, sportsmanship, responsibility, and the ability of PGSD students to design PJOK learning that aligns with the characteristics of elementary school students. These findings contribute to the development of studies on physical education based on local wisdom and broaden understanding of the importance of integrating traditional games into the education of prospective elementary school teachers. The conclusion of the study affirms that traditional games play an important role in Physical Education learning in PGSD because they are able to connect aspects of movement, pedagogy, character, and culture. The implications of the study include theoretical contributions to the development of literature on Physical Education based on local culture, as well as practical implications for PGSD study programs, lecturers, and prospective teachers in designing PJOK learning that is contextual, inclusive, inexpensive, safe, and aligned with the needs of elementary school students.

Abstract

Although instructional media and physical-activity-based approaches have been widely examined, the development of traditional instructional aids that are systematically integrated into Pendidikan Jasmani, Olahraga, dan Kesehatan (Physical Education, Sports, and Health, PJOK) instruction to increase physical activity among elementary school students remains relatively limited. This study aimed to develop and test the effectiveness of a traditional instructional media model in enhancing the physical activity of elementary school students in Parepare. A quantitative approach was employed using a Research and Development (R&D) method combined with a one-group pretest–posttest quasi-experimental design. The research subjects consisted of 60 fourth- and fifth-grade students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using expert validation sheets, physical activity observation instruments, and student response questionnaires, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired-samples t-tests. The findings showed that the model developed through the integration of traditional games such as engklek, gobak sodor, and egrang into PJOK learning scenarios obtained an average expert validation score of 91.4%, categorized as very valid. The students’ mean physical activity score increased significantly from 62.35 at pretest to 83.70 at posttest, representing an increase of 21.35 points (34.24%), with statistical testing indicating a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (t = 9.87; p < 0.001). In addition, 88% of students demonstrated high levels of engagement and enthusiasm during instruction. These findings contribute to strengthening culturally responsive pedagogy and active learning theories, and broaden the understanding of contextual PJOK instructional practices in elementary schools. The study concludes that the integration of traditional instructional aids plays an important role in increasing students’ physical activity and learning motivation, and recommends that PJOK teachers and schools adopt locally rooted, culture-based instructional media as an innovative instructional strategy, while encouraging further research with wider implementation scales and longer durations.

Abstract

Although the use of traditional games in physical education has received increasing attention in prior studies, research specifically examining their effect on both students’ motivation and active participation at the elementary school level in Parepare remains limited. This study aims to analyze the effect of traditional game-based learning media on students’ motivation and participation in physical education learning. A quantitative approach was employed using a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group model, involving 58 fifth-grade students selected through purposive sampling. The study was conducted in November 2025 at SDIT Ashabul Kahfi Parepare. Data were collected using a motivation questionnaire and structured observation sheets to measure student participation, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics and an independent samples t-test. The findings indicate a significant difference between the experimental and control groups: students who participated in learning activities using traditional games demonstrated higher motivation scores (M = 86.45) than those in the conventional learning group (M = 74.28). In addition, the level of active participation in the experimental group reached 89%, exceeding that of the control group (73%). These results contribute to the theoretical development of constructivist learning theory and active learning concepts by demonstrating the effectiveness of culturally relevant and engaging learning media. The study concludes that the integration of traditional games plays a crucial role in enhancing students’ motivation and participation in physical education, and recommends that physical education teachers adopt traditional game-based strategies as an alternative instructional approach. The implications include theoretical contributions to the growing literature on culturally responsive pedagogy in physical education and practical recommendations for schools to incorporate local cultural resources into learning activities. Furthermore, this study highlights opportunities for future research on the long-term impacts of traditional game integration and its influence on students’ physical fitness and social skills development.
