Abstract

Coronavirus adalah keluarga besar virus yang dapat menyebabkan penyakit pada hewan atau manusia Sepertinya COVID atau virus Corona yang ada di sekitar Indonesia tidak dapat dibendung. Penyebarannya yang masif dan relatif cepat membuat orang ciut dan ketakutan. Semua orang terpaksa berdiam diri di rumah untuk memutus mata rantai penularan COVID. Siswa terpaksa harus tinggal di rumah belajar dari rumah dengan menggunakan media seadanya seperti buku bacaan yang tersedia, laptop, internet, paket modem. Karena covid mempersulit siswa untuk belajar salah satunya belajar kosa kata, siswa kekurangan waktu untuk belajar kosa kata dan penguasaan kosa kata. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penguasaan kosa kata siswa pada masa Covid di kelas XI MAN 2 Kampar. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Peneliti menggunakan kuesioner untuk memperoleh data. Kuesioner terdiri dari 14 pernyataan pada aspek linguistik. Dari hasil tersebut, peneliti mendapatkan bahwa sebagian besar siswa mampu memahami kata benda, kata kerja, kata keterangan, sinonim, dan antonim dari teks tersebut. Dari 30 siswa yang dijadikan sampel, terdapat 27 siswa yang mampu menguasai kosa kata, dan hanya 3 siswa yang tidak mampu menguasai kosa kata pronomina, konjungsi, dan penggunaan konjungsi. Peneliti menemukan bahwa skor rata-rata kosakata siswa adalah 81,33 dan skor median adalah 85. Berdasarkan hasil temuan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa sebagian besar siswa kelas XI MAN 2 Kampar mampu menguasai. kosakata di masa Covid.

Abstract

This aim of this research is to provide an insight on English as foreign language learning at elementary school level. Since the English is learned as foreign language in Indonesia, the shifting of English in Indonesia curriculum is one of the interested research focus. It is explicitly declared in Curriculum 2013 that English is taught as an extracurricular subject in Indonesia elementary school. The government does not obligate the elementary students to learn English. The elementary schools have an opportunity to decide English to be included as a subject in the curriculum. The shifting of the government’s consideration in deciding the starting focus of English learning at junior high school level is the maturity level of learners in learning a foreign language. Dealing with the stated focus, a critical overview on the foreign language learning is conducted. Several research reported that learning a foreign language is better to be started at the early age because of the early age students are easier to imitate the new language. The way of thinking in imitating stages is assumed as the best time to start learning a foreign language. In another point, several research reported that maturity level of learners is the essential point to be considered because learning a foreign language need is not only imitating the language but also understanding the culture, combining linguistics aspects and so on. Despite the fact on the different views of scholars, both of the parties agree on the focus of learning a language is not a matter of age. The contributions of several factors are also part of the supported system in learning foreign language. In term of English foreign language learning, different age-level have to be given different learning input. An early age students should be given speaking and listening topics due to the students do not involve the critical thinking process. Meanwhile, the mature students are better to be provided reading and writing topic due to the depth thinking phase is in theirs.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out students’ listening activities of the second semester students of English Language and Education Study Program for the 2022/2023 academic year. This research is qualitative research with the research subjects were second semester students of English Language and Education Study Program at University of Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai. The research instrument was a questionnaire and interview with qualitative analysis techniques. Based on the data analysis, the results of the analysis on students' listening activities as Extramural English were playing video games, watching TV, listening to song or music, watching movie and using internet. Therefore, the researcher concluded that most of students have listening activities as Extramural English.

Abstract

ESP need to be designed appropriately with the students’ need. ESP for Nurse is very important for learning English in Nursing Department. This descriptive research is taken at Nursing Department of Universitas Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai by analyzing the curriculum; the material, teaching, and evaluation strategies used in this department. The result shows that the materials are basic medical terminology, patient communication, medical procedures, and protocols. In addition, the strategies which are used by the lecturers are active listening, empathetic communication, clear and concise communication, non-verbal communication, health literacy awareness, patient education, conflict resolution skill, interdisciplinary collaboration, time management, continuous professional development, and health and safety precautions. The learning processes are evaluated by language proficiency assessments, clinical communication simulations, written assignments and reports, case study discussions, professional presentations, interpersonal communication assessments, vocabulary and medical terminology quizzes, reflection journals, and peer and self-assessment. The curriculum is designed and managed appropriately with a nurse need.

Abstract

Penelitian skripsi merupakan tahapan penting dalam perjalanan akademik seorang mahasiswa yang menuntut integritas, ketekunan, dan keterampilan analitik yang tinggi. Salah satu aspek kunci yang mendefinisikan kualitas penelitian adalah sikap ilmiah yang diterapkan oleh peneliti. Penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif ini bertujuan untuk menguraikan sikap ilmiah mahasiswa dalam penelitian skripsi dengan menyoroti pemahaman metodologi, objektivitas, kejujuran, kritisisme, dan terbuka untuk kritik di Prodi S1 PGPAUD Universitas Pahlawan tahun dua ribu dua puluh tiga. Melalui eksplorasi mendalam terhadap sikap ilmiah mahasiswa dalam melakukan penelitian sebagai tugas akhir, hasil penelitian ini menjelaskan bahwa pemahaman metodologi yang dimiliki mahasiswa lebih banyak pada level sedang yaitu delapan puluh lima persen, dan mahasiswa menunjukkan sikap ilmiah kritis tujuh puluh tiga persen walaupun hanya enam puluh lima persen dari mahasiswa tersebut terbuka untuk dikritik. Selain itu delapan puluh tujuh persen mahasiswa telah transparan dan menghormati hasil penelitian orang lain. Sikap jujur dan objektif telah teridentifikasi sebanyak tujuh puluh tiga persen dan tujuh puluh lima persen. Dalam hal ini, mahasiswa telah menunjukkan sikap ilmiah yang positif dalam melakukan penelitian skrips sebagai tugas akhir.

Abstract

Universitas dapat mengevaluasi apakah laboratorium bahasa digunakan secara optimal oleh dosen dan mahasiswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memaparkan pemanfaatan laboratorium bahasa sebagai fasilitas pembelajaran bahasa di Universitas Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai. Penelitian deskriptif ini dilaksanakan dari bulan Maret sampai Juni dua ribu dua puluh empat dengan menggunakan lembar observasi dan wawancara kepada pihak yang terkait di laboratorium bahasa Universitas Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai. Data yang terkumpul dianalasis secara deskriptif dengan menggunakan trianggulasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa fasilitas yang ada di laboratorium bahasa Universitas Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai sudah tersedia perangkat keras dan lunak yang lengkap. Yang terdiri dari empat puluh komputer mahasiswa dan satu komputer dosen. Selain itu dilengkapi dengan headphone, microphone, TV LED. Beberapa perangkat lunak terdiri dari aplikasi pembelajaran TOEFL dan CAT yang dilengkapi dengan akses internet yang kuat. Laboratorium bahasa ini dimanfaatkan untuk proses pembelajaran bahasa. Selain itu juga digunakan dalam penyelenggaraan webinar dan perlu ditingkatkan. Pemanfaatan laboratorium bahasa sangat bermanfaat bagi civitas akademika. Secara keseluruhan, laboratorium bahasa di Universitas Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai telah berfungsi dengan baik dan memberikan kontribusi positif bagi pembelajaran bahasa di lingkungan universitas.

Abstract

This study sought to investigate whether or not there was a significant difference in reading comprehension between students who were taught utilizing reciprocal teaching strategies and those who were not, as well as whether there was a significant effect of applying these strategies on reading comprehension. In September and October 2022, Senior High School 1 in Kampar Hulu was the site of the study. The Senior High School 1 Koto Kampar Hulu population for this study was made up entirely of eleventh graders. In class XI 1, the researcher utilized the reciprocal teaching technique as the experimental class, while in class XI 2, the researcher used the traditional strategy as the control class. A quantitative and experimental method was adopted in this study. Pretest and posttest were not equal in the study's quasi-experimental approach. Pre-test and post-test tests were used as study instruments to gather the data. The independent t-test and paired sample t-test statistic techniques from SPSS 22 were used to analyse and evaluate the data. The independent t-test calculation using the test results in both groups' posttest scores revealed that the significant value was greater than the level of significance (0,361 > 0,05). It demonstrated that the experimental and control groups' differences were indeed substantial. Additionally, the paired t-test calculation revealed the paired sample t-test result (-12,805 0,05), which indicated that adopting the reciprocal teaching strategy had a substantial impact on students' reading comprehension

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan guru bahasa Inggris di SD, SMP, dan SMA yang berlokasi di sekitar Universitas Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai dalam memanfaatkan teknologi untuk pembelajaran yang lebih efektif. Pelatihan ini dilaksanakan bagi 27 guru Bahasa Inggris yang fokus pada pengenalan dan penggunaan aplikasi pembelajaran seperti Quizlet dan Kahoot! yang dirancang untuk membuat proses belajar mengajar lebih interaktif dan menarik. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini berhasil memberdayakan guru bahasa Inggris tersebut dengan keterampilan teknologi yang diperlukan untuk menciptakan pengalaman belajar yang lebih interaktif dan efektif, meskipun menghadapi beberapa tantangan yang berhasil diatasi melalui berbagai solusi yang diterapkan. Beberapa kendala, termasuk keterbatasan akses teknologi, variasi keterampilan digital peserta, keterbatasan waktu, dan kurangnya dukungan berkelanjutan, berbagai solusi telah diterapkan untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut. Fasilitas teknologi disediakan, pelatihan dirancang fleksibel, dan dukungan berkelanjutan melalui platform online WhatsApp group disediakan untuk membantu peserta. Hasil dari kegiatan ini telah memberdayakan guru dengan keterampilan yang diperlukan untuk mengintegrasikan teknologi secara efektif ke dalam metode pengajaran Bahasa Inggris, serta meningkatkan kualitas pengalaman belajar bagi siswa di era digital.

Abstract

Students only rely on national books used by schools issued by the government, many students cannot understand the contents of the book. In addition, foreign materials and vocabulary are not yet known to students. This makes student interest one of the factors in the occurrence of reading problems. Students who have low interest may have difficulty understanding the text. The purpose of writing the research is to develop an English module through the think pair share strategy based on Riau local wisdom in teaching reading comprehension. This study uses (R D) method. The instruments in this study used tests, field notes and interviews as data collection. The sample in this study was class XI Medeka 3 students at SMAN 1 Bangkinang with a total of 26 students. The results of this study showed that before using the module in learning English, the average student score obtained was 75.19. After using the module, the average student score was 81.92. The results of the independent sample test showed that Ho was accepted and Ha was rejected. The conclusion of this study is that there are no significant results in the use of the English reading teaching module.
