Abstract

Adolescence is a critical developmental stage in which individuals often experience psychological challenges such as overthinking, stress, and emotional dysregulation. Limited self-awareness and low mental health literacy exacerbate these challenges, contributing to poor decision-making, heightened anxiety, and stigma. Innovative approaches are needed to promote adolescent mental health. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the “Outbond from Overthinking to Understanding” program in improving self-awareness and mental health literacy among adolescents.A quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test control groups was conducted among 120 students (60 intervention, 60 control) from senior high schools (SMA) and vocational high schools (SMK) in Kediri, Indonesia. Participants were selected using cluster sampling. The intervention group participated in a one-day outbound program consisting of six activity stations, while the control group received a leaflet on adolescent mental health. Self-awareness was measured using the Self-Reflection and Insight Scale (SRIS), and mental health literacy was assessed with the Mental Health Literacy Scale (MHLS). Data were analyzed using paired and independent t-tests.The intervention group showed significant improvements in self-awareness (Mean Difference = +13.4, p < 0.001) and mental health literacy (Mean Difference = +17.7, p < 0.001), while the control group demonstrated no significant changes. Post-test comparisons revealed higher mean scores in the intervention group compared to the control group for both self-awareness (78.6 ± 7.9 vs. 66.3 ± 8.6, p < 0.001) and mental health literacy (80.2 ± 8.1 vs. 65.0 ± 8.7, p < 0.001).The “Outbond from Overthinking to Understanding” program significantly enhanced self-awareness and mental health literacy among adolescents. Outbound-based experiential learning offers a promising, engaging, and practical strategy for promoting adolescent mental health and should be considered as a complementary approach to conventional school-based education.

Abstract

Abstract Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a non-communicable disease with a rising prevalence, including in Indonesia. Effective management of diabetes is crucial to prevent serious complications; however, many patients still have a limited understanding of how to control their blood sugar levels. This community service program aims to assess the effectiveness of an educational program in improving patients' knowledge about diabetes management at Puskesmas Genteng Kulon, Banyuwangi. The academic program is presented in a simple, easy-to-understand approach called DORMAN (Diet, Exercise, and Monitoring Active, Normal). This program utilizes various educational media such as leaflets, posters, and blood sugar monitoring tools. A total of 46 participants who met specific criteria were involved in this program. Program evaluation was carried out using knowledge questionnaires, program satisfaction surveys, and blood sugar monitoring forms. The results of this program showed a significant improvement in patient knowledge: more than half of the patients (52.2%) who initially had insufficient knowledge improved to a good level (80.5%) after participating in the educational program. Additionally, the blood sugar levels of patients who were initially abnormal, totaling 28 patients (60.9%), improved, with 30 patients (65.2%) achieving normal blood sugar levels after the education. These findings emphasize the importance of education grounded in clear, applicable information for self-management of diabetes. This program is expected to have a positive impact on community-level efforts to prevent diabetes complications.

Abstract

Background: Quality of life (QoL) is influenced by health services and social determinants of health. However, evidence integrating community empowerment, social support, community health workers (CHWs), and primary health care (PHC) into a comprehensive QoL model remains limited, particularly in Indonesian PHC settings. This scoping review aimed to map current evidence and develop an integrative conceptual framework for a community-based social health model to improve QoL. Methods: The review followed PRISMA-ScR, the Arksey and O'Malley framework, Levac et al.'s enhancement, and Joanna Briggs Institute guidance. Using the Population-Concept-Context (PCC) framework, searches were conducted across five databases and relevant grey literature. Studies published between 2021 and 2026 were synthesized through systematic extraction, thematic coding, theoretical alignment, and evidence-to-framework development to generate an integrative community-based social health model for QoL improvement. Results: From 164 identified records, 50 sources were included. Five interconnected themes informed the proposed model: local needs assessment, community empowerment, social capital and social support, CHW-PHC integration, and quality-of-life-oriented evaluation. The framework's novelty lies in specifying how local assessment creates contextual fit, empowerment builds agency, social capital provides relational resources, CHW-PHC integration links social needs with services, and QoL-oriented evaluation functions as both endpoint and feedback loop. Evidence also indicated gaps in context-specific implementation studies from Indonesia, rural communities, and low-resource PHC settings, as well as limited validation using standardized QoL indicators. Conclusion: The proposed model integrates social and health-system determinants of QoL into a community-oriented PHC framework. However, empirical validation, pilot implementation, and effectiveness evaluation are needed before widespread adoption across diverse Indonesian community settings.
