Abstract

Digital literacy has become an essential competency for elementary school students in the digital era, enabling them to navigate and critically evaluate information in a safe and informed manner. This study employs a systematic literature review, guided by the PRISMA framework, to explore how digital literacy is taught in elementary schools, the learning resources and tools utilized, and the challenges and opportunities in integrating digital literacy into the curriculum. A total of 17 articles were reviewed, highlighting strategies such as interactive media, motion comics, and digital storytelling to enhance student engagement and comprehension. The findings emphasize the role of teacher preparedness, parental support, and adequate infrastructure in overcoming challenges such as limited resources and cybersecurity concerns. Opportunities for integrating digital literacy include fostering ethical awareness, promoting critical thinking, and using diverse digital tools. This research contributes valuable insights for educators and policymakers to design effective digital literacy programs tailored to the needs of young learners.

Abstract

The learning system that has changed to online causes teachers to be creative in delivering material through digital learning media. Thus, research on the development of booklets into digital learning media needs to be carried out to assist teachers in facilitating learning and assisting students in understanding the material. This study aims to determine the quality and appropriateness of the content and its presentation as a medium for learning science in class VIII SMP material on the structure and function of plant tissue. This research method is a Research and Development (R & D) study, adapted from Thiagarajan’s 4 D (Define, Design, Development, and Disseminate) model. The data taken is the result of product assessment with a data collection instrument in the form of a questionnaire analyzed using descriptive-quantitative data. The resulting assessment from four media experts, four material experts, and a teacher showed the digital booklet in the very good category, with an average of 78.13% (media), 88.28% (material), and 96.88% (teacher). Besides, students gave very good responses., indicated by the acquisition of an average assessment of 94.89%. The digital booklet could be used as an alternative learning media on the structure and function of plant tissue.

Abstract

The suitable teaching materials will make it easier for students to learn in the classroom. To present suitable teaching materials, a needs analysis is needed. This study aimed to determine the types and characteristics of teaching materials needed in learning biology laboratory management. The survey method was carried out to students who were randomly selected. The instrument is arranged in the form of a questionnaire by paying attention to each characteristic indicator of various teaching materials. The validity of the instrument used a combination of expert judgment. The questionnaire is distributed via google form to students who have taken laboratory management courses with a filling period of 2 weeks obtained 123 respondents. The data were analyzed descriptively of quantitatively and qualitatively. The results showed that the percentage of students who needed teaching materials for biology laboratory management lectures was 98%; the characteristics of teaching materials wanted by students included: containing learning objectives, using simple language, sequenced materials according to lecture sessions, containing summaries, and providing feedback. Teaching materials based on existing characteristics can be in the form of modules that are adapted to the Semester Learning Plan.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology requires teachers to improve their competence in effectively integrating technology into the learning process on an ongoing basis. Pedagogical and professional competence are essential in ensuring that teachers can adapt to technological changes and create meaningful and engaging learning experiences. However, many educators face challenges in optimally utilizing digital tools, so it is important to examine the relationship between their competence and the integration of digital technology. This study aims to analyze the impact of teachers' pedagogical and professional competencies on the integration of digital technology into tlearning. Using an ex-post facto quantitative research design, this study was conducted at SD Muhammadiyah Karangkajen Yogyakarta, involving 39 teachers selected through non-probability sampling, so the results have limitations in external validity and generalizability. The findings should be interpreted with caution. The research results show a significant correlation between pedagogical competencies and digital technology integration (r = 0.655, p < 0.05) as well as between professional competencies and digital technology integration (r = 0.747, p < 0.05), confirming the influence of both competencies. These findings highlight the importance of continuous professional development to strengthen teachers' ability to integrate digital tools into their teaching. This study suggests that developing pedagogical and professional competencies is essential to maximize the potential of digital technology education, which ultimately enhances students' learning experiences.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the limitations of human resources (HR) in school laboratories and their impact on the implementation of biology practicum activities at the senior high school level. A descriptive qualitative method was employed in Kotagede District, Yogyakarta, using purposive sampling to select two schools with active biology laboratories. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with laboratory personnel and biology teachers to explore the availability, involvement, and roles of laboratory staff in supporting practicum activities. The findings revealed significant differences between the two schools. School A had a complete laboratory staff, including a head of the laboratory and a laboratory assistant, which allowed practicum activities to be conducted in a structured and systematic manner, effectively supporting students' conceptual understanding and scientific understanding. supporting students' conceptual understanding and scientific skills. In contrast, School B lacked laboratory personnel, resulting in all practicum responsibilities being assigned to the biology teacher, which led to suboptimal implementation and limited student learning experiences. Therefore, efforts to increase the availability and competence of laboratory personnel in accordance with national standards are necessary. The presence of professional laboratory staff plays a crucial role in creating effective, meaningful, and skill-oriented biology learning through practicum-based approaches.

Abstract

The standard of operating procedure (SOP) is a laboratory activity method and must meet the criteria of good laboratory practice (GLP) and other stipulations of valid legislation. The article aims to establish ownership/lack of the SOP of a laboratory that has a public high school laboratory in the city of Yogyakarta. It uses descriptive research. The purpose of descriptive research is to describe images systematically. The research was conducted at Yogyakarta State High School in June 2022—data collection techniques via observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The forms of the instruments used were observation sheets, interview sheets, and checklists, where the instruments had been validated. Samples in this study are random sampling, SMA A, SMA B, and SMA C. This research subject is the head of a high school biology lab in Yogyakarta. The study showed that high school biology LABS A, B, and C already had the SOP implemented, but there was still a lack of it, and this led to increased safety principles. School A has as many as 9 SOPs, school B has as many as 10 SOPs, and school C has as many as 8 SOPs. Out of all three schools, only school B had SOP malfunction of lab equipment. Presumably, school B has the most complete SOP than schools A and C.
