Abstract

This study aims to determine the prevalence and species of protozoa that infect the digestive tract of goats in Kwanyar Sub-District, Bangkalan District. This study was conducted in June-July 2019 with 100 samples of stool examination in the laboratory of the Division of Parasitology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Airlangga University. On examination found two types of protozoa, which were: Eimeria sp and Blastocystis sp. The results of this study showed the prevalence of 48% digestive tract protozoa. The results of statistical analysis using the Chi-Square test showed significant differences in age under one year and over one year in goats (p <0.05).

Abstract

This study aims to determine the prevalence of gastrointestinal protozoa on Bali cattle in Lopok Sub-District, Sumbawa District. The study was conducted from January to April 2021 by taking 100 samples of Bali cattle feces from 7 villages in Lopok Sub-District, Sumbawa District. Samples were examined by sedimentation and floating methods. Species identification was determined by the morphology of the protozoa. A total of 62 (62%) samples were positively infected with protozoa. There were 4 species of gastrointestinal protozoa found infecting Bali cattle, namely Eimeria sp., Blastocytis sp., Entamoeba sp., and Balantidium sp. Most of the protozoa found in this study were Eimeria sp. (54%) and Blastocytis sp. (5%). This study found 59 samples (59%) were infected by one type of protozoa, 3 samples (3%) were infected by two types of protozoa. Cattle aged 0-6 months (81%) had a higher prevalence rate and were more susceptible to protozoal infections than cows aged 7 months – 2 years (70.3%) and more than 2 years (45.2%).

Abstract

This study aims to determine the prevalence and species of endoparasite that infect the digestive tract of goats in Ujungpangkah Sub-District, Gresik District. This study was conducted in February-March 2021 with 100 samples of goat’s stool. Sample examination was conducted in the laboratory of the Division of Veterinary Parasitology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Airlangga. In fecal examination found four types of endoparasites, which were: Eimeria sp. 62%, Blastocystis sp. 5%, Haemonchus sp. 4%, Strongyloides sp. 2% and mixed infection prevalence was 3%. This study showed a prevalence of 76% digestive tract endoparasite. The Chi-Square test showed significant differences (p <0.05) between groups of goats aged under one year (57%) and over one year (43%).

Abstract

This study aims to determine the prevalence and identify ectoparasite and gastrointestinal parasites in Eurasian tree sparrow (Passer montanus) in Kediri Regency, East Java, Indonesia. The research was conducted in January 2021 with 100 samples of body swabs and feces of Eurasian tree sparrow. The examination was done in the Anugerah Satwa Veterinary Clinic in Kediri Regency using direct smear and flotation methods. The observations in this study showed that from 100 samples of body swabs, 38 samples (38%) were infested with ectoparasites which are Dermoglyphus sp. and Strelkoviacarus sp. and from 100 feces samples, 47 samples (47%) were infected with helminthic eggs with the single infections by Ascaridia sp. as much as 12%, Dispharynx sp. as much as 1% and mixed infections of Ascaridia sp. and Dispharynx sp. were 25%. Assessed by examination for the protozoa also found that Isospora sp. was present with prevalence of 100% of the 100 sparrow feces samples examined.

Abstract

This study intends to know the prevalence and crusting severity of scabies (Sarcoptes scabiei) on Rabbits in Kuala Lumpur Rabbit Farm. Sarcoptes scabiei is a mite that has a predilection in the stratum corneum of the skin and caused scabies. Clinical symptoms were characterized by alopecia and crusting in the skin. This study presents a laboratory explorative research with a cross-sectional approach. Samples used rabbits in the farm that showed the clinical symptoms of scabies and the result of scraping skin in a native examination at the laboratory. Rabbits that positive scabies then performed scoring by the severity based on the region of the body and clinical symptoms. Results showed that from 140 rabbits in the population, the positive result is 13 rabbits were infected by scabies and there were 2 grades of crusting severity of scabies consisting of mild and moderate grade with separated 2 regions of the body. The low grade showed the alopecia and crusting in the face region while the medium grade in the face and foot region. The conclusion of this study is the number of prevalence scabies is 9.29% and crusting severity that low grade is 69.32% and medium grade is 30.78%.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to prove that pare leaf extract (Momordica charantia L.) has anthelmintic activity against Raillietina sp. in vitro. This study consisted of four treatments and each treatment contained six replications, each of which consisted of six worms. The treatments in this research were K- with 1% CMC-Na, P1 with 2% extract concentration, P2 with 4% extract concentration, P3 with 8% extract concentration. Pare leaf extract has anthelmintic activity against Raillietina sp. in vitro with an effective dose of 8%. The higher the concentration of pare leaf extract, the higher the mortality rate of worms. The longer the immersion time, the higher the number of dead worms.

Abstract

Snakehead fish with different geographical differences can have an impact on genetic diversity. DNA barcoding is a system designed to identify a species precisely and accurately by using short and standardized gene regions. This study aims to determine the diversity of snakehead fish populations in four areas in East Java. This study used the Cytochrome b (Cyt b) gene sequence in mitochondrial DNA to determine genetic variation in the wild population of Channa striata. The results of DNA barcodes with Cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) showed that all samples were validly C. striata species (99.84-99.85%), while Cyt-b sequences had percentage identity with the same sequence species ranging from 99.74 to 100%. The phylogenetic tree reconstructed using MEGAX resulted in a separate clade in the sequences from East Java. This strengthens the similarity of the population of C. striata species in the Brantas watershed.

Abstract

Rasbora (Rasbora sp.) is one of the endemic freshwater fish species in East Java, which is currently being threatened due to environmental degradation, human activities and pollution. In East Java, it is known that there are several species of Rasbora (Rasbora sp.). Domestication is one method to preserve Rasbora in East Java, preceded by identifying potential species of Rasbora sp. from the natural catchment. This study aims to determine the diversity of Rasbora sp in East Java. Samples were taken at five different locations, specifically: Nganjuk (Brantas Watersheds), Ngawi (Bengawan Solo Watersheds, Silowo Springs Tuban, Umbulan Springs Pasuruan and the Setail Watersheds Banyuwangi. The main parameters observed were morphology and morphometry. The morphological analysis used identification guidelines, while morphometric data were obtained through 15 parameters measurement then analyzed using one-way Anova test on SPSS 25 software. Based on the morphological and morphometric analysis, it is known that the species of Rasbora in Nganjuk and Ngawi regencies are Rasbora argyrotaenia and the species of Rasbora in Tuban, Pasuruan and Banyuwangi regencies are Rasbora lateristriata. One-way Anova test showed Rasbora from the five locations were significantly different based on the result value of p<0.05.

Abstract

Surabaya slaughterhouse provides pork cuts from several swine farms. Prior to slaughter, the swine were placed in a temporary pen which allows the transmission of gastrointestinal protozoa to fellow swine and to humans at the Surabaya slaughterhouse. This research was conducted to identify gastrointestinal protozoa of swine that slaughtered in Surabaya slaughterhouse. Total of 100 fecal samples was observed using native method, sedimentation method, Fulleborne floating method and Ziehl neelsen method. Based on the results, there were 47 samples positive. The protozoa found included Balantidium sp. with 46% prevalence, Eimeria sp. / Isospora sp. with 32% prevalence, Entamoeba sp. with 24% prevalence, and Blastocystis sp.with 12% prevalence.

Abstract

AbstractEnterocytozoon hepatopenaei (EHP), a microsporidia parasite known to hinder shrimp growth by infecting its hepatopancreas, is recently an emerging infection for Litopenaeus vannamei farms in Indonesia. The present study was conducted to investigate the relationship between nitrite and ammonia concentration with EHP infection in the super-intensive ponds. Shrimps and water samples were collected from six ponds in aquaculture super-intensive ponds with a stocking density of 5,000 shrimps in each pond which is located in Pasuruan, Lamongan, and Tuban Regency, Indonesia. The water sample was taken to the laboratory for the measurement of ammonia and nitrite. The samples of ammonia and nitrite were detected by spectrophotometer, and the PCR was used to detect 18S rRNA of EHP. The PCR analysis that showed two positive samples of L. vannamei, from the ponds with a high concentration of ammonia and nitrite, were infected by EHP. The statistical analysis showed a significant correlation between ammonia and nitrite with the prevalence of EHP infections, where the Pearson correlation (r) was 0.980 and 0.943, respectively. There was a high prevalence of EHP infection with the increase in nitrite concentration and ammonia in pond four and pond six. The concentration of over 1mg/l of ammonia and nitrite could influence EHP infection prevalence in the shrimp farms. Highlight ResearchAmmonia and nitrite concentration influence the prevalence of Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei infection in Super intensive ponds.The estimated prevalence of Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei was 16.7%.PCR amplification analysis was used to detect the 18S ss-rRNA of Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei and 510-bp was obtained.
