Abstract

This study aims to determine the potential of the Cissus quadrangularis extract to decreased the expression of IL-1 β so that it can to inhibit bone resorption and osteoporosis fracture healing is not delayed union. Forty rats adapted for 1 week, and then divided into four groups with 10 replications. P0 (sham-operated + Osteotomy + CMC Na); P1 (ovariectomy + Osteotomy + CMC Na); P2 (ovariectomy + Osteotomy + Raloxifene 5.4 mg /kg); P3 (ovariectomy + Osteotomy + CQ 750 mg / kg). Osteoporosis induced is made by bilateral ovariectomy in rats, then to make sure that osteoporosis is already happened, 8 weeks post-ovariectomy performed radiology examinations on the femur, then the osteotomy action. IL1-β expression observations performed in at the 2nd week and 6th week after osteotomy through the immunohistochemistry examination. The results of immunohistochemistry examination in the 2nd week showed an increased expression of IL1-β in all groups of rat that did ovariectomy (P1, P2 and P3) were significantly different (p <0.05) with a rat group that didn’t ovariectomy, as well P2 dan P3 were significantly different with P1. The Results of immunohistochemistry examination in the 6th week showed the samepattern with the 2nd week and there is increased IL1-β expression in all groups of rat compared with the results of the examination in the 2nd week. Based on these results it can be concluded that Cissus quadrangularis extract andRaloxifen can decreased the expression of IL-1 β, and the results that don’t significantly different, so that these both materials can to inhibit bone resorption and osteoporosis fracture healing don’t get delayed union.

Abstract

The aims of this study to determine the effect of honey bees (Apis dorsata) to prevent the decrease of femur density in  ovariohysterctomized rats as animal model of osteoporosis by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). This study used 20 adult female white rats (Rattus norvegicus) with body weight 300 gr. Divided into 5 groups, negative control group (P0-), not in ovariohysterectomy,  only given aquadest 1.5 ml/day ; Positive control group (P0 +), in ovariohysterectomy,  only given aquadest 1.5 ml/day; Treatment group 1 (P1), in ovariohysterectomy and given honey 1 gram / kg BB + 1.5 ml aquadest; Treatment group 2 (P2), in ovariohysterectomy and given honey 2 grams / kg BB + 1.5 ml aquadest; Treatment group 3 (P3), in ovariohysterectomy and given honey 4 grams / kg BB + 1.5 ml aquadest. After 12 weeks, all rats were sacrified for removal of the femur and performed by SEM. Analysis of SEM showed that mice administered honey with a dose of 4 grams / kg BW (P3) showed bone density approaching negative control treatment (P0-), ie, ovariohysterectomized rats. P3 showed the most less bone porosity than other treatment groups. The largest and most uniformly distributed porosity was shown by the positive control group (P0 +). The best results with the smallest quantity and size of the porosity of femur is in P3 group. In conclusion, honey (Apis dorsata) can prevent the decrease in bone density of the femur by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM).

Abstract

The aim of this research was to study the safety application of xylazine-ketamine and xylazinepropofolrecurrent dosage combination as anesthesia for laparo-histerotomy surgery in cat. Thisresearch used 10 female cats, 12-18 months of age, followed randomly divided into two groups, P1:atropine 0,04 mg/kgBW/SC + xylazine 2 mg/kg BW/IM + ketamine 20 mg/kg BW/IM; P2 : atropine0,04mg/kg BW/SC + xylazine 2 mg/kg BW/IM + Propofol 20 mg/kg BW/IV. The blood of the allgroups was taken from vena femuralis at 0 minute (before treatment), 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutesduring anesthesia for measurement of blood gas value pH, pCO2 and HCO3. After all animals wereanesthetized, the animals were treated laparo-histerotomy surgery. The data were analyzed byusing Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD). The result showed both of groups were notsignificantly difference (p>0,05) to blood gas values for pH, pCO2 dan HCO3. Besides, both groupsanaesthetic agent perfectly caused metabolic acidosis with respiratory alkalosis compensationperfectly, therefore it is relatively safe to use as anaesthetic agent for surgery that needs long timeprocedure, as laparo-histerotomy.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of high dose calcium carbonate in rat (Rattus norvegicus) following ovaryohysterectomy. A total of twenty female rats at 13 week-old were used in this study. Following ovaryohitectomy, the animals were randomized in four treatment groups. Group P0 were :fed with standard food only P1, P2 and P2 groups treated with standard food but supplemented calcium carbonate respectively at the dose of 75 mg per animal per day, 225 mg per animal per day , and 450 mg per animal per day. The calcium carbonate supplement were given daily in the morning for 42 days. The experimental animals were sacrificed at 21 week-old. Calcium and phosphor level in sinister kidneys were determined by spectrofotometric method. The data obtained from this study were analysed using one way analysis of variance. No significant difference was observed in calcium level among four treatment groups, with the lowest level were found in P3 group. However, the phosphor level of P1 was significantly lower than those of P2 and P3 groups. The highest phosphor level was observed in P3 group, indicating a phosphorous retension and the signs of renal failure.

Abstract

Fracture healing is a complex process that requires the ordered synthesis of matrix proteins and deposition of mineral. Complications such as delayed union or non-union may arise from excessive flexibility bone because low mineral content of bone or apposition of both fracture fragments is not complete yet. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of excessive calcium carbonate (CaCO3) on the healing femoral fracture in rat by examining histopathological change of femoral fracture. Twelve male Sprague Dawley rats, 12 weeks old were subjected to this investigation. The entire rats model at 13 weeks old were treated reposition of femoral dexter fractures with intramedullary pin fixation. The rats model were evenly randomly divided into three groups of four at 15 weeks old ; group I treated with normal diet, group II with normal diet + CaCO3 supplement 75 mg/day, group III with normal diet + CaCO3 supplement 225 mg/day per oral. At the end of the experiment (19 weeks old), the rats were killed, subsequently dexter femur were taken out for determining the histopathological examination. The results showed that excessive suplementation CaCO3 to description of histopathological fracture healing on group III had even better, callus was able to bridge the fracture fragment with completely. The proportion woven bone and trabeculae were higher, while group II were cartilage dominate in callus, and group I were higher fibrous tissue. From the results can be concluded that given CaCO3 225 mg/ day accelerate the healing process of femoral fractures.

Abstract

The dog named Agra (Golden Retriever) is suspected of having an axillary tumor. After surgery and examination of the pathology laboratory, it was found that the dog had fibrosarcoma in the axillaries. Fibrosarcoma is a malignant neoplasm that originates from mesenchymal cells, where the dominant cell histology is fibroblast cells that divide excessively and uncontrollably, can attack local tissues, and can move to other locations in the body (metastatic). The histopathological features of fibrosarcoma have fusiform or spindle-shaped cell fascicular growth patterns. The boundary between cells appears unclear with little cytoplasm and collagen fibers form parallel webbing. Grading histology is mainly based on the degree of cellularity, cell differentiation, mitotic features, and the amount of collagen produced by the cell necrosis. Surgery until now is the first and foremost thing in tumor therapy. Benign tumors can be removed with various surgical techniques depending on the location of the tumor. As for malignant tumors, surgery can be carried out by following other additional therapies to inhibit tumor growth.
