Abstract

Objective: This study aims to examine the influence of academic Indonesian language proficiency and entrepreneurial literacy on students’ career readiness, with work readiness tested as a mediating variable. The study focuses on undergraduate students in Malang City, a recognized educational hub in East Java, where students are actively preparing for their future careers. Method: A quantitative research design was employed using survey data collected from 289 undergraduate students across several universities in Malang. Respondents were selected through purposive sampling, requiring them to have completed at least four semesters. The data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) with SmartPLS 4.0 to evaluate both direct and mediating effects among the variables. Measurement validity and reliability were confirmed through factor loadings, AVE, Composite Reliability, and Cronbach’s alpha, while structural model significance was tested using bootstrapping. Results: The findings reveal that academic Indonesian language proficiency has a positive and significant effect on career readiness, with work readiness serving as a strong mediator. However, entrepreneurial literacy shows no significant indirect effect on career readiness through work readiness, indicating that entrepreneurial knowledge alone does not sufficiently translate into career preparation without contextual application. Novelty: This study contributes by highlighting the critical role of academic language proficiency often overlooked in employability research as a foundational capability that enhances both work readiness and career readiness, thereby offering new insights for higher education institutions in Indonesia.

Abstract

Kata kunci: cerita panji; cerita rakyat; pembelajaran sastra; sosialisasi Abstract Panji stories, as part of Kediri local wisdom, have historical and moral values that are important to preserve. However, the lack of knowledge of Kediri City junior high school students about Panji stories encourages the need for socialization and integration efforts in Indonesian language learning. This service outlines a service activity that focuses on the socialization of Panji stories to teachers who are members of the Kediri City Junior High School Indonesian Language MGMP.  This activity was carried out on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at SMP Plus Rahmat Kediri City, with 50 participants. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods, with stages including preparation, socialization, discussion, evaluation, and monitoring. The results of the activity showed that teachers were able to integrate Panji stories innovatively in learning, improving students' literacy skills while introducing local cultural values. Despite the challenges of limited time, this activity opens up great opportunities for the preservation of local culture through creative and relevant literary education. Thus, the socialization of Panji stories not only enriches Indonesian language learning, but also strengthens the cultural identity of the younger generation. Keywords: panji story; folklore; literature learning; socialization

Abstract

This study aims to identify cultural patterns and values in conceptual metaphors found in Nusantara fairy tales using a cognitive linguistic approach. This study was designed as a qualitative-descriptive study with a focus on analysing three main fairy tales that represent geographical diversity, namely Timun Mas from Java, Putri Mandalika from West Nusa Tenggara, and Malin Kundang from West Sumatra. The results of the analysis show that there are a total of 55 conceptual metaphors found in the three fairy tales. Structural metaphors dominate about fifty percent of all findings, followed by ontological and orientational metaphors. These metaphors serve as a means of transmitting cultural values that vary between regions, such as contextual wisdom in the western region, the values of collectivity and sacrifice in the central region, and an emphasis on social harmony and relationship with nature. These findings also reveal the mindset of the Indonesian people, who prioritise collectivity over individuality, as reflected in the metaphorical structure of fairy tales. The conclusion of this study confirms that Nusantara fairy tales are a medium rich in cultural cognition. Pedagogically, this study offers important implications for character education through a story-based moral education approach, where the metaphorical structure in fairy tales can serve as a cognitive scaffold for internalising moral values. Theoretically, this study also enriches the development of cognitive linguistics in the context of Indonesia's multicultural society.

Abstract

This research examines the effectiveness of a multisensory Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model based on cherished objects in enhancing the emotional literacy of fourth-grade elementary school students when writing descriptive texts. Using a descriptive phenomenological qualitative approach, the study involved 28 students from SD Muhammadiyah 9 Malang in the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected through participant observation (8 meetings), in-depth interviews, text analysis and reflection journals. The results show a significant improvement in the quality of the descriptive texts (average +64.6%), particularly in the expression of personal emotions (+110.7%) and sensory vocabulary (+72.0%). Four main themes emerged: high emotional engagement, enrichment of sensory-affective details, development of self-awareness and self-regulation, and the transfer of emotional literacy to daily life (86.7% of parents reported their children being more open). The model successfully transformed student writing from mechanical prose into authentic and expressive narratives. The multisensory PjBL model based on cherished objects proved effective in integrating the affective dimension into descriptive text writing instruction and aligns with the holistic spirit of the Merdeka Curriculum.
