Abstract

Background: Management of puskesmas is critical to providing quality health services through effective planning, organising, implementing, and controlling. Improving the quality of health services builds patient trust. The Healthy Indonesia Programme aims to improve services at first level health facilities, including puskesmas, but many still do not meet quality standards. This study evaluates the management cycle of puskesmas at the South Sorong District health office. Objectives: This study aims to analyse the evaluation of the implementation of the puskesmas management cycle at the South Sorong District Health Office. Methods: A qualitative approach was used with informants from four puskesmas: Teminabuan, Konda, Kokoda, and Kais Darat, representing 16 puskesmas in the region. Results: Some puskesmas follow the planning stages involving mini-workshops and Introspection Survey data, but not consistently. There were challenges maintaining the monthly mini-workshop schedule and using the monthly work programme plan results. Monitoring processes were not always optimal, with most responsibility falling on the head of the puskesmas and administrative staff, while the role of the programme focal point was not fully maximised. Conclusion: puskesmas should improve the consistency, quality, and effectiveness of management through increased managerial competence, efficient budget management, and optimisation of planning, implementation, and monitoring processes.

Abstract

Background: Quality health services are a basic need and expectation for all individuals seeking care. Health facilities are expected to meet patient expectations through service delivery. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate health service quality based on accreditation implementation across five dimensions responsiveness, assurance, tangibility, empathy, and reliability and their effect on patient satisfaction. Methods: A quantitative study with a cross-sectional design was conducted at the Teminabuan Health Center, South Sorong Regency. A total of 92 patients participated, and data were collected using a structured questionnaire assessing satisfaction across the five service quality dimensions. Results: Partial analysis showed that assurance and tangibility significantly influenced patient satisfaction (p < 0.05), while responsiveness, empathy, and reliability did not (p > 0.05). The F-test indicated a significant simultaneous effect of all five dimensions on satisfaction (p = 0.000 < 0.05). Conclusion: The five dimensions of service quality collectively impact patient satisfaction at Teminabuan Health Center. However, assurance and tangibility were the only dimensions with a significant partial effect. These findings highlight the need to strengthen specific service aspects to enhance overall patient satisfaction.

Abstract

Background: The Indonesian government is committed to strengthening traditional health services by integrating them into the National Health System to enhance accessibility and cultural relevance. Objective: This study aimed to identify key factors influencing the implementation of traditional health services at health centers (Puskesmas) in South Sorong Regency in 2024. Methods: A quantitative research design was used to analyze the influence of human resources, disposition, bureaucratic structure, community support, and communication on service implementation. Data analysis included validity and reliability tests, Kruskal-Wallis test, T-tests, F-tests, and multiple linear regression. Results: All five factors significantly influenced the implementation of traditional health services, both partially and simultaneously (p = 0.000 < 0.05). The model showed high reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.821) and a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.999, indicating that these variables explained 99.9% of the variation in implementation. Conclusion: Human resources, disposition, bureaucratic structure, community support, and communication significantly affect the implementation of traditional health services at health centers. Enhancing these factors is essential for improving the effectiveness and sustainability of traditional health programs in the region.

Abstract

Background: The management of pharmaceutical supplies involves a series of coordinated activities related to the planning, procurement, storage, distribution, and disposal of drugs, aimed at ensuring the availability and appropriate use of medications. Objectives: This study aims to describe the implementation pattern of pharmaceutical supply management, focusing on the processes of planning, procurement, and storage at the Pharmacy Installation of the South Sorong Regency Health Office. Methods: A qualitative research design was used, employing in-depth interviews with key informants to gather detailed insights into the procedures and practices involved in pharmaceutical supply management. Results: The planning process is carried out based on the National Formulary and the National Essential Drug List. Drug procurement is conducted annually through E-Purchasing using the Electronic Catalog, following existing national procurement guidelines. The storage system adheres to regulatory standards but is not yet optimized, as drug arrangement is not done alphabetically, which can hinder the efficiency of drug retrieval by personnel. Conclusions:The Pharmacy Installation of the South Sorong Regency Health Office has implemented drug planning, procurement, and storage systems in alignment with national guidelines. However, improvements in drug arrangement and storage optimization are needed to enhance operational efficiency.

Abstract

Background: Drug availability at Puskesmas (Community Health Centers) is essential for delivering quality public health services. Multiple factors such as the roles of doctors, pharmaceutical personnel, patients, and drug distributors are thought to influence this availability. Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the determinants affecting drug availability at Puskesmas in South Sorong Regency in 2024. Methods: A quantitative approach was used, with data analyzed through statistical tests including the T-test, F-test, and coefficient of determination to assess both partial and simultaneous effects of the independent variables. Results: The analysis revealed that there were no significant partial or simultaneous effects of the roles of doctors, pharmaceutical personnel, patients, and drug distributors on drug availability (p > 0.05). The coefficient of determination (R²) was 0.153, indicating that only 15.3% of the variation in drug availability could be explained by these factors. Conclusions: The study concludes that the roles of doctors, pharmaceutical personnel, patients, and drug distributors have no significant influence on drug availability at Puskesmas in South Sorong Regency. The low coefficient of determination suggests that other unexamined factors may play a more dominant role in determining drug availability in these health facilities.

Abstract

Background: Pharmaceutical services are direct and responsible healthcare services aimed at ensuring optimal therapeutic outcomes and improving patients’ quality of life. Pharmaceutical personnel play a crucial role not only in vaccine production but also in the management of vaccine logistics, including storage, distribution, and administration. Vaccination is estimated to prevent two to three million deaths annually from vaccine-preventable diseases such as diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, and measles across all age groups. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the management of vaccine logistics at the Pharmaceutical Installation of the South Sorong District Health Office in Southwest Papua, Indonesia. Methods: This research employed a qualitative approach using in-depth interviews with key informants and applied inductive thematic analysis to interpret the data. Results: The findings reveal that although vaccine management practices have been implemented adequately, several challenges remain. These include limited internet connectivity, poor road infrastructure, and logistical delays, all of which hinder the efficiency and effectiveness of vaccine distribution. Conclusion: Strengthening infrastructure and improving digital systems are essential to enhancing the effectiveness of vaccine logistics management. Strategic efforts are needed to overcome these operational barriers to ensure consistent and equitable vaccine availability in remote regions

Abstract

Background: Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease that poses significant challenges and impacts family well-being. In 2023, 75 cases were recorded and treated in South Sorong. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the implementation of the leprosy program at Teminabuan Health Center using the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model. Methods: A descriptive qualitative approach was applied, using observation and in-depth interviews with three key informants. Data validation was conducted through triangulation. Results: Context evaluation showed collaboration between health workers and community cadres in raising awareness and promoting early examination. Input evaluation revealed program management by a designated officer with support from several units but highlighted issues such as limited staff, lack of integrated data systems, and insufficient drug supply. Process evaluation indicated that outreach was done through leaflets and discussions, field screening, and referrals, though stigma and behavior change remained challenges. Product evaluation found that activities included contact tracing, medication monitoring, and referrals, but training for health workers was inadequate. Conclusion: While context and process aspects were satisfactory, input and product components need improvement, particularly in human resources, logistics, and system integration to enhance program effectiveness
