Abstract

The increasing demand for natural UV-protective agents has led to the exploration of plant-based bioactive compounds. Yellow root (Arcangelisia flava) extract is traditionally used in medicine and contains flavonoids, alkaloids, and terpenoids with potential photoprotective properties. This study aimed to characterize the chemical composition of A. flava extract and evaluate its UV-absorbing properties using UV-Vis and FTIR spectroscopy. The extract was obtained through maceration with ethanol, followed by spectroscopic analysis. The UV-Vis spectrum (200–400 nm) revealed multiple absorption peaks, particularly at 270 nm, 292 nm, 306 nm, 340 nm, 354 nm, 360 nm, and 396 nm, indicating the presence of UV-absorbing compounds. FTIR analysis confirmed the presence of hydroxyl (-OH), carbonyl (C=O), and aromatic (C=C) functional groups, which are characteristic of flavonoids and other bioactive compounds. These findings suggest that A. flava extract has potential as a natural UV-protective agent. Further studies on compound isolation, fractionation, and photostability assessments are required to optimize its purity and effectiveness in sunscreen formulations.

Abstract

Analisis spektrometri serapan atom dilakukan untuk mengetahui jumlah tembaga yang terlarut yaitu sebesar 25,415 mg/kg PCB.Leaching of Copper from Printed Circuit Board Waste with Hydrogen Peroxide. Leaching of copper from printed circuit board (PCB) waste has been successfully performed. The copper metal contained in the PCB can be separated using a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and sulfuric acid with a variation of volume ratio is 0 : 1, 1 : 1, 2 : 1, 3 : 1, 4 : 1, and 5 : 1. Optimal separation is carried out by the immersion system for 3 days using H2O2/H2SO4 = 3:1 (v/v). The amount of copper contained in the PCB was analyzed using X-ray fluorescence. The copper contained in the printed circuit board is 57.7%. The leaching process can decrease the copper content so that the remaining copper is 7.7 x 10-4%. The decrease of copper content contained in PCB reaches 99.999%. Analysis of atomic absorption spectrometry was conducted to determine the amount of dissolved copper that is 25.415 mg/kg PCB.

Abstract

This study presents a flow-rate-regulated co-precipitation method for synthesizing ZnO nanoparticles using a peristaltic pump to enhance control over nucleation and growth processes. The primary objective was to investigate the effect of controlled reactant delivery on the structural and morphological properties of ZnO nanoparticles. A peristaltic pump system was calibrated to provide a stable and continuous flow of the precipitating agent, achieving an average flow rate of 93.39 ± 1.39 µL/s with high linearity (R² = 0.99946). ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized under controlled conditions and characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The XRD results confirmed the formation of a single-phase hexagonal ZnO structure with high crystallinity and an average crystallite size of 55.98 ± 8.35 nm. SEM analysis revealed the formation of nanorod structures with relatively uniform morphology. The improved uniformity is attributed to stable supersaturation conditions enabled by precise flow-rate control. These findings demonstrate that flow-rate regulation is a critical parameter in co-precipitation synthesis and offers a simple, cost-effective strategy for improving reproducibility and structural control in nanoparticle fabrication.
