Abstract

Climate change is a globally reached problem that crosses traditional disciplinary, spatial, and societal boundaries. Facing and adaptation to climate change effects require designing a holistic approach that integrates theoretical and methodological insights from a very wide range of disciplines. This essay articulates the reasoning and critical imperative of collaborative, multi-disciplinary involvement in climate change research and action. It identifies fields where interdisciplinary coalescence elevates the level of comprehension, drives innovative problem-solving, and achieves sustainable results. It covers topics such as Recognotion of Climate Change Complexity, Environmental Contributions, Socioeconomic and Policy Scopes, Partnership and Capacity Building, as well as Challenges and Future Directions. The argument demonstrates how holistic approaches improve the precision of our decisions and strengthens global collaborations essential to realizing world sustainability goals.

Abstract

Indonesia generates significant quantities of agricultural waste, including eggshells and rice husks, which often remain underutilized. This research-based community service project explores the innovative reuse of these materials—particularly rice husks—as eco-friendly components in the creation of calligraphy artworks. The objectives of the initiative were twofold: (1) to introduce and highlight the potential of eggshells and rice husks as sustainable, alternative materials for calligraphic art; and (2) to provide hands-on training on the practical techniques of producing calligraphy using eggshell fragments and rice husk-based paper. Utilizing the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, the project actively involved the El-Ka Lampung Calligraphy Studio community in Metro City, Lampung. The outcomes of the initiative included the successful production of calligraphy pieces that exhibited both aesthetic appeal and distinctive textures resulting from the incorporation of organic materials. Moreover, the project fostered greater community awareness of environmentally sustainable art practices and enhanced participants’ skills in utilizing local waste products creatively. This initiative demonstrates how integrating traditional art with ecological awareness can empower communities and promote sustainable cultural innovation.

Abstract

Silica was obtained from rice husk throught an extraction process and applied to remove Rhodamine B (RhB) from aqueous media by adsorption. The better characteristics of the silica were demonstrated by X-ray diffraction, N2 adsorption isotherms and scanning electron microscopy. Silica was used as adsorbent to remove RhB dye in aqueous media. Adsorption kinetics and isotherms were evaluated. Silica presented higher values of surface area, pore volume, pore diameter and porosity. Pseudo-second order was adequate to represent the kinetic profile. The adsorption isotherm follows the Langmuir and Freundlich models. Rice husk silica attained adsorption capacity of 1.06 mg g-1 coupled with removal percentage of 84%, being an excelent adsorbent for RhB dye.
