Abstract

Fly-borne diseases include dysentery, cholera, abdominal typhus, diarrhea, and others related to poor environmental sanitation conditions, so it is necessary to control flies carefully to avoid environmental pollution and health problems. One plant that contains botanical insecticides is the fragrant pandanus leaf (Pandanus amaryllifolius). Fragrant pandanus leaves contain insecticides in the form of alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, tannins, and polyphenols. The type of research conducted is experimental with a static group comparison experiment design, which simultaneously measures the dependent variable and the independent variable by comparing the treated results with the control results. The research sample amounted to 240 flies. In the 10-minute observation period, 20 flies were released in one cage for each treatment. The results of this study were obtained. There is a difference in the use of fragrant pandanus leaf extract with a dose of 5 ml (7.67), 10 ml (12.33), and 15 ml (13.67) and without using a dose of fragrant pandanus leaf extract on the level of house fly expulsion: 5 ml (2.33), 10 ml (1.67), and 15 ml (1.33). The dose that causes the most significant expulsion of houseflies is in the extract of fragrant pandanus leaves with a dose of 15 ml because the higher the dose, the more flies are expelled. Conclusion: The results of the ANOVA test based on the dose of fragrant pandanus leaf extract on the number of houses flies that do not land, the degree of freedom obtained from 3 to 8, are used to see Ft. It turns out that Ft 1% = 7.59, Ft 5% = 3.86, and Fo = 536.32; thus, if Fo is greater than Ft, Ho is rejected, meaning that there is a significant difference between the various doses of fragrant pandanus leaf extract on the repulsion of house flies.

Abstract

Low birth weight (LBW) is still a major problem in developing countries including Indonesia. The prevalence of LBW tends to decrease from 2013-2018, from 8.6% to 6.51%. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the relationship between maternal age at pregnancy and household income with the incidence of low birth weight. The type of the study was analytic observational with quantitative method. The population in this study were all mothers who had children aged 6-24 months who resided in West Aceh District and met the inclusion and exclusion criteria by means of simple random sampling. The dependent variable of this study was LB W while the independent variables were maternal age during pregnancy and family income. The risk tendency for each variable was seen using the OR (odds ratio) value which used a Confidence Interval of 95%. The results showed that there was a significant relationship (p=0.049) between the two variables. The amount of household income influences the quality of the mother's health and nutrition intake during pregnancy impacts the weight and health of the child born.

Abstract

The provision of clean water is still a major problem in Indonesia and one of the reasons is that the available raw water is still limited. Even though it is recognized that water sources are closely related to the nutritional status of children, including stunting. The research objective was to analyze the water quality in protected deep wells in Leubok Village, Aceh Barat District. The method used is descriptive with an observational approach and laboratory examination. Two water sources, namely water from a drilled well with a depth of 12 meters and water from a drilled well with a depth of 6 meters are the research samples. The results of the physical test showed that the water was colorless, odorless and tasteless in both water sources. In the water of the drilled well at a depth of 12 meters, it was found that the content of Fe was 0.16 Mg/L and the pH was 7.9 Mg/L, while the water in the well, which was 6 meters deep, was found to contain Fe 0.06 Mg/L and the pH of the water was 7.5 Mg/L. The conclusion that can be drawn is that the sources of clean water from both water sources in Leubok Village meet the standard of maximum concentration for clean water for hygiene and sanitation purposes, as well as the requirements for drinking water, especially the physical and chemical criteria (particularly pH and Fe). To be truly suitable for consumption, further studies are needed on microbiological parameters, inorganic chemical parameters, and other chemical parameters.

Abstract

Nutritional problems can occur in the life cycle starting from the womb until old age. Currently, Indonesia is facing multiple nutritional problems that must receive serious attention in handling. Malnutrition problems can cause health problems throughout the life cycle. One of the nutritional problems that occurs, especially in West Aceh Regency, is stunting. thus causing many children to have their growth and development hampered. The 4 star food menu is one way to provide nutrition for stunting toddlers. The aim of this research was to determine the knowledge, education, employment of mothers and eating patterns by providing MPASI with a 4 star menu as an innovation to fulfill nutrition for stunted children in the Johan Pahlawan Health Center working area, West Aceh Regency. The method used inThis research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive research type with an exploratory approach, namely conducting in-depth interviews. In general, not many people in the Johan Pahlawan Community Health Center work area are aware of the existence of the 4 star MPASI menu innovation for handling stunting. The relatively low level of education causes the mother's lack of knowledge in fulfilling nutrition according to the MPASI 4 Bintang Baduta menu. In handling stunting clowns, although there are those who know how to make the menu, they do not provide a 4 star MPASI menu due to low economic factors.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of students' knowledge and parental parenting styles on snacking behavior at SD Negeri 14 Meulaboh. The snacks available near the school are often unhygienic, exposed to dust and vehicle pollution, thereby posing health risks to students. This research employs a cross-sectional approach with quantitative methods, involving 69 student samples. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi-Square statistical test. The results indicate a significant relationship between students' knowledge and snacking behavior (p=0.000), as well as between parental parenting styles and snacking behavior (p=0.003). These findings highlight the importance of educating both students and parents about healthy snack choices as a preventive measure to mitigate the adverse health impacts on children in the school environment.

Abstract

Unhealthy eating behaviors represent a significant issue among university students, particularly those experiencing academic and psychological pressures. These conditions can lead to stress and anxiety, which may escalate into depression. Furthermore, the adverse effects of unhealthy eating behaviors driven by depression can severely impact students' health, often resulting in neglect of nutritional intake. This negligence contributes to nutritional problems such as malnutrition, overnutrition, and the onset of chronic diseases. This study aims to examine the relationship between depression and eating behaviors among final-year students at the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Teuku Umar. Utilizing a quantitative cross-sectional approach, the study involved a population of 223 final-year students, with a sample size of 70 selected in 2023/2024. Conducted in June 2024, the research employed questionnaires for primary data collection. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Chi-Square test. Results revealed a significant association between depression and eating behaviors (p = 0.001, CI 95% = 1.899–15.902). Among the participants, 64.3% exhibited depressive symptoms, and 61.4% demonstrated unhealthy eating behaviors. The analysis indicated that students with depression were 1.94 times more likely to engage in unhealthy eating behaviors. This study concludes that depression significantly increases the risk of unhealthy eating behaviors among final-year students.

Abstract

Anemia remains a significant global health concern, with the World Health Organization (WHO) reporting a prevalence of 29.9% in 2023. Among pregnant women aged 15–49, anemia affects over half a billion individuals, potentially leading to complications such as preterm birth, low birth weight, and developmental disorders due to inadequate iron reserves in newborns. Despite efforts at the Johan Pahlawan Health Center to distribute Fe tablets to 921 pregnant women, cases of low hemoglobin (Hb) levels persist. This study aims to examine the relationship between compliance with Fe tablet consumption and Hb levels in pregnant women. Using an analytical survey with a cross-sectional approach, data were collected from 48 pregnant women in May 2024. Chi-Square statistical analysis revealed a significant association between Fe tablet adherence and Hb levels, with a p-value of 0.024. These findings indicate that adherence to Fe tablet consumption correlates with improved Hb levels among pregnant women in the Johan Pahlawan Health Center's working area. Future studies are encouraged to explore the impact of high-iron dietary intake on maternal weight gain during pregnancy to provide a comprehensive understanding of maternal nutrition.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between birth weight and birth length with the height of children aged 36-48 months at the Pante Ceureumen Health Center, West Aceh Regency. Utilizing a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, data collection occurred between July 24-31, 2023. The sample included 55 mothers who gave birth at the health center three years prior, selected using a total sampling method. Data were gathered through anthropometric measurements and structured interviews with mothers. Statistical analysis revealed no significant relationship between birth weight and the height of children aged 36-48 months, as indicated by a p-value (p > 0.05). Similarly, no significant correlation was found between birth length and the height of children in this age group. These findings highlight the need for regular participation in integrated health services (posyandu) to monitor children’s growth and development. Health workers are also encouraged to increase community engagement by conducting educational outreach programs on stunting prevention and optimal child nutrition practices.
