Abstract

Knowledge and culture have an important role in increasing the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding for infants aged 0-6 months. Based on the results of the survey directly obtained in the field, the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding for infants aged 0-6 months is low. The purpose of this study was to examine the low coverage of exclusive breastfeeding in the working area of the Meutulang Health Center, Panton Reu District, West Aceh Regency. The research method used is a qualitative method with an exploratory descriptive approach, namely conducting in-depth interviews, which aims to explore the reasons why mothers do not exclusively breastfeed their babies until the age of 6 months. The results showed that the knowledge of breastfeeding mothers was still lacking regarding understanding in exclusive breastfeeding, the attitude of breastfeeding mothers was still not sure about giving only breast milk. culture is very closely related to exclusive breastfeeding, where mothers hold on to ancestral cultures that are passed down from generation to generation such as the peucicap culture and the provision of complementary feeding is given to infants before the age of 6 months, which should only be given breast milk. The conclusion is that exclusive breastfeeding in the working area of the Meutulang Public Health Center is still low, as evidenced by the results of research that has been carried out where knowledge and culture have a strong influence which is then followed by the attitude and work of the mother. Suggestions are expected for health centers and related agencies to more often conduct counseling, outreach and education to the community, especially mothers about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding aged 0-6 months

Abstract

Background: The living environment influences increasing the volume of breast milk in addition to family income and mother's knowledge. The problem in this study is the lack of volume of breast milk in breastfeeding mothers so it has a negative impact on the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding. The purpose of this study was to analyze the implementation of socialization of banana heart extract and papaya leaves on breastfeeding mothers as an effort to provide exclusive breastfeeding. This research method is an observational cross-sectional and pre-experimental design in the form of a one-group pre-post test design conducted in December 2021 in Aceh Barat with a sample of 45 mothers who have babies. The results of the study were based on before the implementation of the socialization test was carried out, the score was 17.8% for breastfeeding mothers, but after the implementation of the socialization test, the score was 48.9% for breastfeeding mothers. Where the mean value is 6.91 and the SD value is 1.345, while the P-value is 0.000 <α 0.05. Conclusion The changes that occurred to breastfeeding mothers were initially only 17.8%, but after socialization, it increased to 48.9% of mothers who breastfeed. If mothers regularly consume this extract from the beginning of pregnancy to breastfeeding, it is possible that all breastfeeding mothers will have their baby's needs met, so that the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding will be even better. Suggestions make it a habit for mothers to always breastfeed by regularly consuming foods that are high in nutritional value, such as extracts of Banana Heart and Papaya leaves which are easily available in the environment around the place of residence, from the beginning of pregnancy to the end of breastfeeding.

Abstract

Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM), was a condition in which pregnant women experience higher blood sugar levels than usual. This can affect the development of the fetus and the health of the newborn. The purpose of the reasearch was to analyze the gestational relationship of diabetes mellitus with the newborn's weight and height. The research method uses a quantitative method with cross sectional design, the sample represents a total population of 126 people, data analysis using a chi square test using the application of SPSS 21.0. The results of the study show that there was a relationship between GDM and weight with values (P Value =1,00 ≥ α :0,05 and RP = 1,00) and the length of the newborn with value (P value =0,695 ≥ alpha :0,05, RP = 2,00). An abnormal blood sugar level in the mother during pregnancy affects the nutrition received by the fetus so affecting the length of the baby. Important advice for mothers at the time of pregnancies to observe blood sugar levels at normal levels by paying attention to nutrition intake and stress management through regular consultation with the nearest health officials and health services on a regular basis during the pregnant, so that the baby is born healthy especially the length of the body.

Abstract

Children born to mothers living around gold mines are at risk of mercury exposure (Hg) and can cause developmental disorders. These developmental disorders can be detected early through stress oxidation mechanisms based on Hg toxicity that directly harm brain cells. It can be detected early on from the level of DNA damage, which is malondialdehyde (MDA) in the urine. Examining children's MDA urine levels near gold mines is the aim of this study. The Observational Research Method performs measurement of MDA of baby urine with TBARS examination of 16 babies in the age range of 2-14 weeks babies who live around the gold mining village Kalirejo Prefecture Kokap district of Kulon Progo Yogyakarta. The result was a rate of 3.23 μmol/L of MDA in baby urine, which is above the normal level of 1.03 μMol/L. So it can be concluded that the high level of MDI in the baby's urine is an early indication of a child's developmental disorder living around the gold mining.

Abstract

School-aged children are a vulnerable group for nutritional disorders because they are in a period of rapid growth and development, requiring a balanced intake of nutrients. In Arongan Lambalek Subdistrict, West Aceh Regency, cases of undernutrition are still found among elementary school children, which are suspected to be influenced by irregular eating patterns, large family size, and suboptimal personal hygiene practices. This study aims to examine the relationship between eating patterns, family size, and personal hygiene with the nutritional status of elementary school children in grades 4–6 in Arongan Lambalek Subdistrict. The research employed an analytical survey with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of all students in grades 4–6 at SDN Arongan Wolya, MIN 5 Aceh Barat, MIN 12 Aceh Barat, SDN Drien Rampak, SDN Keub, and SDN Teupin Peuraho, with a total sample of 235 students selected using total sampling. Data were collected using a Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) for eating patterns, a family size questionnaire, and a personal hygiene questionnaire, while nutritional status was measured based on weight-for-height (BB/TB). Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test. The results showed p-values of 0.000 for eating patterns, 0.000 for family size, and 0.004 for personal hygiene. The study concluded that eating patterns, family size, and personal hygiene were significantly associated with the nutritional status of elementary school children. It is recommended that schools and parents increase attention to children's eating habits and personal hygiene through regular nutrition and health education. Future researchers are advised to include additional variables such as nutritional knowledge and socioeconomic status to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of the factors affecting the nutritional status of elementary school children.

Abstract

Nutritional status plays an important role in children's growth and development, including cognitive function. However, intellectual intelligence in school-age children is influenced by various biological and environmental factors. This study aims to examine the relationship between nutritional status and intellectual intelligence in school-age children at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri (MIN) 11 Aceh Barat. This study uses an analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of all sixth-grade students at MIN 11 Aceh Barat, with a total of 104 respondents selected using total sampling technique. Nutritional status was assessed using the Body Mass Index for Age (BMI/A) indicator, while intellectual intelligence was measured using the Culture Fair Intelligence Test (CFIT) Scale 2A. The results showed that most respondents had normal nutritional status (65.4%) and moderate (60.6%) and high intellectual intelligence ((27.9%). The results of Chi Square Test showed that there was no significant relationship between nutritional status and intellectual intelligence in school-age children (p = 0.715). Therefore, efforts to improve children's intellectual intelligence need to be carried out comprehensively through a multidimensional approach integrating aspects of nutrition, education, and the environment.
