Abstract

Nowadays, environmental initiatives and campaign activities are promoted massively in Bandung City. These activities are part of the program to achieve sustainable development goals at the municipal level. Text mining methods from online news and media were conducted to understand the implication of the program to the pro-environmental behavior and consciousness of the Bandung City residents. A questionnaire survey to 340 residents of Bandung City was also distributed randomly to see the relationship between sociodemographic profiles (age and education level) and pro-environmental behavior of the respondents. Results showed that the Kang Pisman program became the highest environmentally friendly movement program promoted through mass media. This result also correspondence to the questionnaire survey in which people in Bandung City try to reduce their produced waste. Besides, education level is insignificant, and age becomes one-factor influencing environmental behavior. The interesting point is that the government should enhance organic waste management since many people are unwilling to process their organic waste. To promote, educate, and engage residents in pro-environmental behavior, stakeholders should conduct environmentally friendly movements, thus achieving local SDGs target.

Abstract

AbstractBy using ecofeminism perspective, this paper aims to describe the activity and activism of women's movement in Bandung that focuses on environmental issues. The subjects of this research are three women who pioneered environmental movements in urban communities in Bandung in their capacity as housewives. This research uses qualitative methods that produce descriptive data from interviews and direct observation. The results of research reveals that despite positioning themselves as objects, their status as housewives and their domestic/feminine roles have enabled them to act as environmentally conscious subjects. Though often regarded as simple and local, their activities and activism can be categorized as an eco-feminist movement. Not only because of their position and their status as housewives but also because of the activities and activism have obviously a direct positive impact on environmental sustainability and improvement, particularly in the area where they live.

Abstract

Deli Medan River is one of the rivers used as a mode of transportation in the 1980s. The shift in water transportation to land causes the Deli Medan River not to get attention and tend to be ignored. This study aims to describe the perception of the people of Medan City on the Deli River Medan while at the same time looking for a correlation between each variable. This study involved 365 respondents divided from various urban villages in the Medan City area (136 men and 232 girls). The selected respondents are aged 9-60 years with a vulnerable elementary school to a college education. Spearman correlation analysis is used to see the relationship between variables. The results of the study inform that there is no relationship between pollution and siltation that occurs in the Deli River Medan, different results are shown between the changing of river transportation modes to land caused by river silting, the level of education and awareness in disposing of waste, as well as pollution that occurs and industries that dispose of waste. Wastewater in the Medan Deli River body (Sig. <0.05). Furthermore, the Deli Medan River has been polluting by waste and wastewater.

Abstract

Global environmental damage emphasizes the importance of environmental education at schools. It is a tool for achieving sustainable development. Environmental education (EE) is integrated into several core subjects in the Indonesian primary school curriculum as a thematic learning. For the teachers, it is essential to be aware of planning and designing appropriate learning methods based on the physical, emotional, and cognitive stages primary students. Kamishibai seems suitable for EE learning at primary school. It can help students to understand EE content. The aim of this study was to analyze using Kamishibai in thematic learning to increase the students' knowledge of EE. The method used in this study was pre-experiment with the research design of the one-group pretest-posttest design. Nine 5th grade students participated in the study. To determine the students’ knowledge of EE, a test was administered before and after the Kamishibai implementation. As a result of the analysis, it was found that, after the implementation, the students’ knowledge of EE was higher than before implementation. The result also showed the students’ ability in retelling the story at the end of the Kamishibai implementation. These indicated that Kamishibai strengthened students' memory. In conclusion, Kamishibai increased students' knowledge of EE.

Abstract

Aims: This study aims to improve waste bank activities in Medan and make them more efficient Methodology and Results: The study involved the collection of secondary and primary data. The secondary data collected involved a general description of the study area, number, status, and location of the waste bank. Primary data included interviews and field research on selected waste banks. Importantly, survey and data collection were conducted from December 2017 to April 2018. A semi-structured interview survey approach was conducted to collect the data. Using the Material Flow Analysis (MFA) methodology, the findings of the study showed that of the total amount of the input material, 87.4 % is a recyclable waste and 12.6 % water. Also, the waste bank activities generate 87.2% recyclable items, 12.6% wastewater, and 0.2% residues. Conclusion, significance, and impact study: The findings are essential in understanding the use of resources to provide information for improving waste bank activities and waste management. Apart from the community, the government also plays a significant role in supporting the future of waste banks. This study found that waste bank activities are still conventional, with no technology adoption. In the future, the waste bank should be more efficient and manage large amounts of wastes, because the potential for recyclable products is still abundant.
