Abstract

Citrus microcarpa is one of the Rutaceae family plants which is commonly used for food industries to enhance aroma and flavor. This plant contains secondary metabolites such as terpenoids, flavonoids, and phenolics. Unfortunately, bioactivity information, specifically anti-termites from citrus seeds is unreported. The aim of this study was to determine anti termite activity of the methanol extract and fractions of the citrus seeds against Coptotermes curvignathus Holmgren. The research was carried out in several stages, starting from maceration, partitioning, phytochemical testing, and termite activity testing for 7 days. The results of the subterranean termite mortality test were justified based on the LC50 values, from the smallest to the largest values, respectively, chloroform fraction 1.689%, methanol fraction 1.783%, n-hexane fraction 1.788%, and methanol extract 2.324%. The results of termite mortality which reached 100% for each tested sample were due to the extract and fractions of the citrus seeds have antifeedant activities.

Abstract

In early 1990, Indonesia entered as the third-largest exporter in the world after Ivory Coast and Ghana. The number of cocoa farmers is estimated to be 1.4 million households, generally on a small scale, with an area of about two hectares of cocoa. The very high increase in cocoa prices during the economic crisis in the late 1990s contributed significantly to the poverty alleviation of cocoa farming communities, especially those in rural areas. Almost 20 percent of the national cocoa production comes from West Sulawesi Province. The Cocoa National Movement Program (Gernas) in West Sulawesi is a locomotive for community-based development as a holistic, integrated program involving stakeholders to increase productivity and quality and encourage the growth of the cocoa trade and industry. The Central Government subsequently carried it out formed the National Movement for the Improvement of Cocoa Production and Quality. The research showed that there had been a significant increase in cocoa productivity in Mamasa Regency, West Sulawesi, between before the National Movement Program and after its implementation through rejuvenetion, rehabilitation, and intensification programs. Rehabilitation activities are higher than those of rejuvenation and intensification. Rejuvenation increased cocoa production from 342.68 kg.ha–1.year–1 in 2008 to 605.05 kg.ha–1.year–1. Rehabilitation increased cocoa productivity from 332.47 kg.ha–1.year–1 in 2008 to 720.98 kg.ha–1.year–1 and intensification increased cocoa productictivity from 328.27 kg.ha–1.year–1 in 2008 to 531.45 kg.ha–1.year–1 during the program implemented.

Abstract

Seaweed E. cottonii is carragaenophytes or carrageenan-producing plant. Carrageenan has a functions stabilizer, thickener and gel former, so it can be used as edible coating that can maintain fish quality. Tuna has nutritional content per 100 grams such protein around 25-26.2%; water 69.40%; fat 1.50%; and carbohydrates 0.03%. Tuna filets quickly decompose if proper handling is not carried out, it is necessary to apply edible coating because this edible coating can protect the product from air contamination and can prevent microbial growth. This study aims to determine the effect of extraction time characteristics of carrageenan and the appropriate concentration of carrageenan for edilbe coating tuna filet. The extraction process was carried out by heating dried seaweed samples with 8% KOH solution for 1 hour, 2 hours and 3 hours at a temperature of 50˚C. The best characteristics of carrageenan resulted from 2 hours of extraction time with 40% yield, 14.95% water content, 63 dPas viscosity and 12.396 ppm sulfate content. The best carrageenan was applied as edible coating on tuna filets with 3 concentrations, namely 1.5%, 2% and 2.5%, each of which was added with 2 mL of glycerol. Based on the Total Plate Count (TPC), it was found that a carrageenan concentration of 2.5% could prevent bacterial growth in the sample as indicated by the TPC number obtained at 2.7×106, which was lower than the control, which was 1.7×107.

Abstract

Legundi (Vitex trifolia L.) is a plant that contains essential oils. Legundi leaf essential oil has the potential as a more environmentally friendly rice lice repellent. The process of extracting essential oils from Legundi leaves uses the steam-water distillation method. The yield obtained from distillation is 0.10% with a bright yellow color, has a distinctive smell of Legundi oil with a specific gravity of 0.9065 gram/cm3. GC-MS search results showed that Legundi leaf essential oil contains 5 main components, namely 2-β-Pinene (16.18 %), trans-caryophyllene (13.75 %), β-Ocimene (11.16 %), Cyclohexanol (10.03%), and Eucalyptol (5.45%). Testing of repellent activity was carried out on rice lice with variations in volatile oil concentrations of 1%, 5%, 10%, and 20%. The results of the repellent test showed that the highest percentage occurred at a concentration of 20% (P4), which was 56.7%, with an application time of 120 hours (L5). Based on this, it can be said that the greater the concentration of the essential oil used, the higher the percentage of rejection of the population, this also indicates that Legundi leaf essential oil has lice repellent activity (Sitophilus oryzae).

Abstract

Smoked cob fish is one of the processed marine fisheries commodities which is much loved by the community, both local people and outside the Tritiro village area. The marketing of this smoked fish product reaches outside the Tritiro village area, which causes the need for packaging that can maintain the quality of the fish until it reaches the customer. This independent community service activity (PKM) aims to improve the quality of smoked fish products produced by smoked fish processing groups through socialization of packaging techniques using a vacuum sealer so as to extend the shelf life of smoked fish, especially in distribution outside the region. The activity was attended by smoked fish processor Poklashar Marniati in the South Kalumpang sub-village, with lecture and practice methods or demonstrations in using a vacuum sealer. The results of the activity show that packaging with a vacuum sealer can increase the durability of smoked tuna so that the risk of damage when shipping out of the area can be minimized. Monitoring and evaluation of packaging socialization activities with this technique is carried out during the PKM activity and up to 3 months after the completion of the activity. The monitoring and evaluation results show that this packaging socialization can increase the productivity of processed smoked fish in the village. Keywords : smoking, vacuum, sealer, smoked cob fish, Tritiro village
