Abstract

This study aims to analyze differences in tempo sensitivity among elementary school students in rural and urban areas using the Carl Orff approach through body percussion techniques. Tempo sensitivity is a vital component in music education that supports the development of motor coordination, concentration, and structured thinking. The research employed a comparative experimental method without a control group, involving 44 fifth-grade students from both rural and urban settings. Data were collected using musical skill tests and analyzed through normality and Mann-Whitney tests. The results indicate a significant difference between the rural and urban student groups (significance value 0.009 < 0.05), suggesting that socio-cultural environments influence the development of tempo sensitivity. Urban students demonstrated higher tempo awareness, possibly due to greater exposure to music and popular culture, while rural students faced limitations in musical resources and expressive freedom. These findings highlight the importance of culturally responsive pedagogical approaches in elementary music education.

Abstract

Abstract

In elementary school music education, particularly concerning concepts of pitch, rhythm, and melody, there is often a lack of structured teaching materials that align with students' cognitive development. This limitation negatively impacts the learning process, leading to difficulties in understanding and applying basic musical concepts. This study aims to develop a digital music media in the form of a video, with a duration of 17 minutes and 43 seconds, utilizing platforms such as Canva, Flaticon, YouTube, Adobe Express, and Sibelius. The media was designed based on Edwin Gordon's Auditory Theory, Jean Piaget's Constructivism, and Sweller's Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning. The research employs a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate) with a qualitative approach. The needs analysis phase revealed a shortage of structured teaching materials at SDN Cibunigeulis 2, where content from YouTube did not fully meet the requirements of the Merdeka Curriculum. The developed digital music media was designed to meet ACTION criteria (Access, Cost, Technology, Interactivity, Organization, Novelty) and was evaluated by experts in content, presentation, graphics, and language. Validation results indicate that the media is deemed suitable with an overall score of 90%, categorized as very suitable in graphics and language aspects, and partially suitable in content and presentation. Implementation in the second-grade classroom demonstrated that the media effectively enhanced the quality of music education, and teacher evaluations revealed that it not only met but exceeded the established suitability standards. This study is expected to contribute significantly to the development of effective digital teaching materials for elementary school music education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the eurhythmics, orff, and rhythm syllable teaching methods on student interest in rhythm learning in elementary schools. Using a quasi-experimental design with a Post-Test Only Non-Equivalent Multiple Groups model, the study involved 38 first-grade students at SDN 133 Jalan Anyar, Bandung. Data were collected through a Likert scale questionnaire that underwent validity and reliability testing. Statistical analysis was performed using the KruskalWallis test and post hoc tests to identify significant differences between groups. The results showed that the rhythm syllable method yielded the highest average interest score (69.46), followed by the orff method (67.46), and the eurhythmics method (63.00). The Kruskal-Wallis H test indicated significant differences between the classes (p = 0.000), with the rhythm syllable and orff methods showing greater effectiveness in enhancing student interest compared to the eurhythmics method. These findings suggest that methods based on active, experiential learning, such as rhythm syllable and orff, are more effective in increasing student interest in rhythm learning. Therefore, it is recommended to integrate these methods into music education to create a more engaging and participatory learning environment.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of creativity among elementary school students in exploring timbre through environmental-based learning. Creativity in this context encompasses four main aspects: fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. The research employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-shot case study design, involving 20 second-grade students as participants. The instrument used was a timbre exploration task using objects from the surrounding environment, assessed through a creativity rubric. The results showed that 20% of students demonstrated a high level of creativity, 55% fell into the moderate category, and 25% were in the low category. In the aspect of fluency, more than half of the students showed adequate ability to generate sound variations. However, the aspects of flexibility, originality, and elaboration were still dominated by low to moderate scores, indicating that students had not yet fully developed their ideas in diverse, original, and detailed ways. Environmental-based learning has proven to provide a positive stimulus in fostering students' musical creativity, although further learning strategies are needed to optimize all aspects of creativity. This study recommends the use of contextual approaches and exploratory learning in music education at the elementary school level.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze elementary school students' interest in learning music through children's songs. Interest is examined through three main aspects, namely student involvement, enjoyment, and interest. This study employs a descriptive quantitative approach using simple random sampling techniques. The sample consists of 361 elementary school students from Phase A, Phase B, and Phase C in Sariwangi Subdistrict. The data collection instrument is a closed-ended questionnaire with 15 statements on a four-point Likert scale. The data were analyzed descriptively using statistical software. The results showed that student engagement was in the moderate category with a percentage of 59.8%, while student enjoyment was also in the moderate category with a percentage of 67.03%. Conversely, interest showed a very high result of 98.09%. These findings indicate that, overall, students' interest in music education is quite high, but their engagement and feelings of enjoyment are not yet optimal. This suggests that while the song-based learning approach is effective in capturing attention, learning strategies need to be further developed to enhance active participation and emotional satisfaction during the learning process. Therefore, teachers are encouraged to design more interactive and enjoyable methods to support comprehensive engagement in music education.

Abstract

Music education in elementary schools emphasizes the development of students' personalities through contextual and meaningful musical experiences. One way to provide meaningful musical experiences is through the use of instructional media, such as the angklung. This study aims to examine elementary school teachers' perceptions of the use of angklung as a learning medium in music education. The study employs a quantitative approach using a descriptive survey method. A total of 123 elementary school teachers in Cidahu District, Kuningan Regency, were selected as the sample. Data were collected using a questionnaire instrument, and the data analysis technique used was descriptive analysis. The results of the study indicate that the majority of teachers' perceptions fall into the good category (70%), while a smaller portion fall into the fairly good category (30%). This suggests that teachers possess positive knowledge, feelings, attitudes, judgments, habits, and tendencies toward the use of angklung as an instructional medium. Based on these findings, it is recommended that training and mentoring be provided to teachers to enhance their understanding and implementation of angklung as a medium for teaching music in elementary schools.
