Abstract

This study analyses the implementation of angklung art learning in primary schools with a focus on implementation, learning methods, and factors that influence its implementation. Angklung as an Indonesian cultural heritage has high educational value in developing various aspects of students' abilities, ranging from cognitive, affective, to psychomotor. This study used descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation conducted at one of the primary schools in Tasikmalaya Regency. The research subjects consisted of the principal, grade V teacher, and grade V students. The results showed that angklung learning has been implemented through four main methods: demonstration, group, hand sign, and imitation. However, the implementation is still not optimal due to the limited ability of teachers and the absence of a specialised music teacher. Supporting factors include the availability of complete infrastructure and teachers who have basic competence in angklung. While the inhibiting factors are the limited ability of teachers, lack of integration with the curriculum, and the lack of learning time allocation. This study concludes that angklung learning has great potential to be developed into a routine programme integrated into the curriculum with the support of continuous teacher training.

Abstract

Music education in Indonesian primary schools continues to face substantial challenges, primarily because most learning is delivered by classroom teachers who lack formal training in music education. This situation has resulted in a gap in the development of students’ musical abilities, despite the essential role of music in fostering cognitive, affective, social, and psychomotor growth. This study aims to analyze the musical abilities of primary school students taught by non-specialist classroom teachers. Employing a descriptive quantitative method, the research collected data through musical tests administered to 601 students from Tasikmalaya, Ciamis, Banjar, Garut, and Pangandaran districts/cities in West Java Province. The tests assessed three domains: rhythm imitation, melody imitation, and rhythm response. Instrument validity was examined using the Pearson Product Moment, while reliability was measured with Cronbach’s Alpha. Data were further analyzed using Rasch modeling through the Winstep application to obtain precise estimates of student ability and a detailed mapping of item distribution. The findings show that 13.98% of students demonstrated high musical ability, 70.55% moderate ability, and 15.47% low ability, with an overall mean ability of 0.72 logits. Rhythm response emerged as the most challenging domain compared with rhythm and melody imitation.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the utilization of interactive digital media in musiclearning for elementary school children through a literature review approach. Themethod involves systematic analysis of relevant studies published between 2010and 2024, retrieved from academic databases such as Google Scholar,ScienceDirect, and the National Library of Indonesia. Interactive digital media, including educational music applications, virtual instruments, and web-basedplatforms, are found to be effective in enhancing students’ motivation, musicalskills, and creativity through multisensory and interactive engagement. The resultsindicate that these media contribute positively to children’s cognitive, motor, social, and emotional development, despite facing challenges such as limitedtechnological infrastructure, low teacher competence in technology, andmisalignment between content and the national curriculum or local cultural context. Therefore, strategies like teacher training, development of localized content, andimplementation of blended learning are essential for successful media integration. This study contributes to the development of effective, relevant, and engaginginstructional media for music education at the elementary level.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze rhythmic learning in fourth-grade elementary school classes, including its implementation, the obstacles encountered, and alternative solutions to improve its effectiveness. The background of this research is based on the fact that rhythm is a fundamental aspect of music education, playing a vital role in developing students’ concentration, motor coordination, discipline, and collaborative skills. Nevertheless, rhythmic learning practices in elementary schools still face various challenges, including teachers’ limited competence in music, a lack of diverse teaching methods, and insufficient supporting learning media. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation studies involving teachers and fourth-grade elementary students. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that rhythmic learning in fourth grade is largely implemented through lectures and repetitive drills, with little engaging variation. The main obstacles identified include teachers’ difficulties in explaining rhythmic notation concepts, the limited availability of simple musical instruments, and students’ low motivation to participate actively. Based on these findings, alternative solutions are required, such as the application of more contextual and enjoyable learning methods for example, game-based approaches, body percussion, or the Orff method, which integrates music, movement, and collaborative activities. Such approaches are considered effective in enhancing students’ engagement, rhythmic concept comprehension, and interest in music learning. In conclusion, this analysis provides an important contribution to the development of rhythmic learning strategies in elementary schools, making them more effective, creative, and meaningful.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the RADEC (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, Create) learning model on fourth-grade students’ rhythmic composition skills. A true experimental method with a posttest-only control group design was applied to a sample of 50 students randomly divided into experimental (n = 25) and control (n = 25) groups. The performance test measured four musical creativity indicators: fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. Findings revealed that the experimental group’s mean score (M = 58.50) was higher than the control group’s (M = 46.50). An independent t-test showed a p-value of 0.009 (< 0.05), indicating a significant positive effect of RADEC on rhythmic composition skills. The integration of body percussion during the Create stage enhanced kinesthetic engagement and creative exploration. These results suggest that RADEC is an effective instructional models for fostering creativity in elementary school music learning
