Abstract

The growth and development of children aged 0-6 months is an important stage to achieve optimal quality of life. Parents have an important role in stimulating child growth and development early on in child growth and development. Problems that occur in children of this age, one of which is gross motor development due to parents' lack of understanding of child development. Education in the form of health literacy discusses growth and development and how to stimulate according to age so that parents can apply what has been taught. The aim is to determine changes in the level of understanding of parents when given growth and development education about gross motor development of children aged 0-6 months. This study used a quantitative research design with a type of quay experimental research, a one- group pre-test-post-test approach. The number of samples was 44 respondents with the purposive sampling method. The variables of this study are independent, namely parents' understanding of child growth and development measured by questionnaires, and dependent variables, namely gross motor development of children aged 0-6 months measured by ASQ (Ages and stages questionnaire). Data analysis techniques used were univariate test, normality test, and effect test. The effect test using Wilcoxon showed the sig result (2-tailed) was 0.000 <0.05, meaning there is a significant effect. It can be concluded that there is an effect of growth and development education on parents' level of understanding about the gross motor development of children aged 0-6 months.

Abstract

Background: Spinal health is the most important part of a child's body posture. Age 2-6 years is a period of rapid growth and during this period the vertebral curve will develop rapidly too. The greater the degree of lateral vertebral curve, the more it will result in a posture abnormality called scoliosis. One of the factors that influences body posture abnormalities is the degree of arcus pedis, which normally forms in the first five years of development in children aged 2-6 years. The degree of the vertebral curve can be measured using a scoliometer and the degree of the arcus pedis using the footprint test (Clarke's Angle). This research aims to see whether there is a relationship between the degree of Arcus pedis and the degree of vertebral curve in children 4-6 years old in the Kartasura area. Methods: This research is quantitative research with research methods using univariate analysis, data normality and bivariate. The number of respondents was 565, and the method used was purposive sampling with inclusion, exclusion and dropout criteria. Results: The results of the correlation test using the Nonparametric Correlation Test with the Spearman Rank Test show that there is no relationship between the degree of the Arcus pedis and the degree of the vertebra with a p-value of 0.228 (p>0.05) and the correlation level is very weak (0.051) and the direction of the relationship is positive or unidirectional. Conclusion: There is no relationship between the degree of arcus pedis and the degree of vertebral curve in children aged 4-6 years in the Kartasura area.

Abstract

Introduction: Scoliosis is defined as the lateral curvature of the spine reaching an angle of 10 degrees or more on coronal radiographs when an individual is standing. According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), around 3% of the global population is at risk of experiencing scoliosis, while in Indonesia, the prevalence of scoliosis ranges between 3% and 5%. Leg length discrepancy is a situation where the length of both lower extremities is unbalanced. Leg length discrepancy can lead to various issues in body posture, such as scoliosis. This study aims to investigate the relationship between scoliosis and leg length discrepancy in children aged 4-6 years. The degree of scoliosis was measured using a scoliometer, and leg length examination was conducted using a measuring tape. Methods: This study is a quantitative research with a cross-sectional research design. The sample size was 567, selected through purposive sampling based on inclusion, exclusion, and dropout criteria. Results: The results, obtained using the Nonparametric Correlation Test with the Spearman Rank Test, indicate the absence of a relationship between leg length discrepancy and scoliosis, with a p-value of 0.189 (p>0.05) and a correlation strength level of 0.055, meaning the correlation is very weak, and the direction of the relationship is positive or in the same direction. Conclusion: There is no relationship between leg length discrepancy and scoliosis in children aged 4-6 years.

Abstract

Stunting is one of the main health problems in Indonesia, caused by chronic lack of nutritional intake during the first 1,000 days of life, characterized by a child's height being shorter than children of the same age. Stunting prevention begins with ensuring that pregnant women get balanced nutritional intake and optimal physical activity during pregnancy. This study aims to optimize efforts to prevent stunting through nutritional counseling and fitness programs for pregnant women in Gondangmanis Village. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with a community service design. The activity was carried out in August 2024 involving 10 pregnant women as research subjects. The research stages include literature reviews, participatory observations, interviews, and documentation. The community service program includes two components, namely (1) counseling on balanced nutrition including demonstrations of nutritious food products (PMT) in the form of green bean corn pudding, and (2) fitness training for pregnant women. The results of the study showed that this program was successful in increasing the knowledge and awareness of pregnant women regarding the importance of balanced nutritional intake as well as the importance of physical activity for fitness in preventing stunting, although it has limitations in measuring the long-term impact on reducing stunting rates. The implementation of this program shows significant potential in Gondangmanis Village in efforts to prevent stunting through an educational approach.

Abstract

Health screening is a form of monitoring children's growth and development, which involves evaluating growth and development status based on weight gain and addressing problems that may arise at each stage of a child's development. Physical health is measured by age, weight and height. The importance of conducting health checks on children early on is a crucial effort in detecting and preventing various health problems that may arise, including the problem of poor posture better known as bad posture. Bad posture is a condition in which the body's position deviates from the normal state which can cause various health problems. The possible negative consequences of bad posture include problems such as kyphosis, lordosis and scoliosis. Regular health checks on children, especially at early developmental stages such as in kindergarten, are important to identify early any potential health problems, including posture problems. By detecting such problems early, preventive measures can be taken immediately to avoid potentially more serious long-term impacts on children's health. Therefore, regular health check-ups in children are a necessity that cannot be ignored to maintain the health and well-being of future generations. In realizing the research results with quantitative methods, measurable and numerical-based data collection is involved to gain a deeper understanding of the posture characteristics of children in that age range. This provides a solid foundation for implementing appropriate preventive and posture corrective measures. The conducted research revealed intriguing findings regarding the posture of children at Aisyah Makam Haji 1 Kartasura Kindergarten. Among the observations: 56% of children were underweight, 10 children exhibited low arches on both feet, and 22% showed signs of scoliosis with a vertebral curve of 0°. While most children displayed normal limb length differences, some exhibited abnormalities in this aspect. These findings underscore the significance of posture screening for children aged 4-6 years, even if they seem physically healthy. Preventive measures, such as education for parents, are needed to prevent postural disorders that could potentially arise in the future.

Abstract

Background: Mobile applications are now a solution to the challenges of monitoring children's growth and development, helping in understanding the emotional and behavioural aspects of children. However, a mobile application-based questionnaire management system for physiotherapy is still not available, therefore, the development of the "ASQ: SE-3" application is needed. This application is expected to help physiotherapy students screen children's growth and development and identify problems early. Methodology: The community service carried out by the service team was carried out through several stages, namely the observation stage, to the evaluation stage using the function test technique with an assessment in descriptive form. This technique is carried out to determine whether there is a difference between the product and its function so that an evaluation can be made. The population of this community service is physiotherapy students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. Results: In the evaluation results provided by the student service team revealed that the ASQ: SE-3 Application is good enough, maybe a little more promoted so that the tool can be known by many people and is useful in addition to physiotherapy teaching materials. Conclusion: The ASQ:SE-3 application proved to be useful as a tool to monitor children's growth and development as an innovative physiotherapy teaching material. However, challenges faced in its use include the possibility of technical errors and limited features that need to be improved to make it easier to use.

Abstract

Introduction: A decrease in the cervical curve due to Forward Head Posture (FHP) can reduce the endurance of the upper trapezius muscle, which plays an essential role in supporting the head. Objectives: This study aims to determine the relationship between cervical curve and upper trapezius muscle endurance. Method: The study used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach, involving 36 Physiotherapy students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. Measurement of cervical curve was done with craniovertebral angle (CVA), while muscle endurance was measured through isometric contraction with 90° shoulder abduction. Data analysis used Spearman Rank Correlation test. Result: There is a positive and significant relationship between upper trapezius muscle endurance and craniovertebral angle (CVA), with a correlation coefficient of 0.433 and a significance value (p-value) of 0.008. This shows that the better the upper trapezius muscle endurance, the more upright a person's head posture. Conclusion: A decrease in cervical curve (FHP) is associated with decreased muscle endurance, which can lead to faster fatigue and muscle soreness. This finding shows the importance of posture management in preventing musculoskeletal disorders, especially in the student population who are often exposed to prolonged device use activities.
