Abstract

In Papua, Indonesia, English education is situated within a unique policy context in which the Special Autonomy Law mandates English as a second language, yet it is often taught as a foreign language in practice. This discrepancy has contributed to challenges in developing students’ speaking proficiency. This study aimed to explore the mismatch between 7th-grade students’ learning styles and teachers’ instructional strategies in a junior high school in Sorong, Indonesia with the goal of proposing more adaptive teaching approaches. A mixed-methods design was employed, combining the VARK learning style questionnaire with qualitative interviews to gather data on students' preferences and classroom practices. The results showed that aligning teaching strategies with students’ diverse learning styles significantly improved their speaking skills. These findings underscored the importance of implementing adaptive instructional methods to meet varied learning needs and enhance English language proficiency among junior high school learners in Indonesia. This research contributes to the growing evidence supporting learning style-based instruction, particularly in the context of English language education in Indonesian junior high schools.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the obstacles faced by grade 11 students at MAN Sorong SP 4 in comprehending English reading texts. Employing a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through a 4-point Likert scale questionnaire completed by 20 students and semi-structured interviews with 5 students and 1 English teacher. The instrument covered four key areas: vocabulary mastery, motivation, media preferences, and teacher support. Results revealed that 76% of students struggled with vocabulary, 71% lacked effective reading strategies such as skimming and inference, and 64% had difficulties understanding text structures. Additionally, 60% of students demonstrated low motivation toward academic reading, although they showed interest in English content through social media. Interview findings supported the quantitative data, indicating students' reliance on dictionaries, absence of explicit reading strategy instruction, and low confidence in dealing with complex texts. The study recommends an instructional approach that integrates reading strategies, vocabulary development, and educational digital media to enhance students’ holistic reading comprehension skills.

Abstract

Speaking is a vital yet challenging skill for EFL students, especially in secondary schools, due to limited practice, low confidence, and classroom anxiety. Traditional teacher-centered methods often fail to offer meaningful speaking opportunities. This study, conducted at SMK Sritanjung Banyuwangi using a qualitative descriptive method, explores how Digital Storytelling (DST) based on students’ daily routines can enhance speaking skills, motivation, engagement, and digital literacy. Six tenth-grade students created English video blogs (vlogs) about their daily activities. Data were collected through speaking assessments, open-ended questionnaires, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The results showed notable improvements in pronunciation, fluency, grammar, and vocabulary. DST also boosted students’ creativity, confidence, and motivation while reducing anxiety. Despite initial nervousness and technical challenges, students responded positively, finding DST enjoyable and supportive. Overall, DST provided an engaging, low-pressure environment that encouraged autonomous learning and effective communication.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of work culture and motivation on the work productivity of employees at Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) Donggala Branch Office, both simultaneously and partially. The population in this study consisted of 39 employees, all of whom were respondents because the number was relatively small. The results of the analysis show that work culture and motivation significantly influence work productivity, with an F significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05). Partially, work culture has a significant influence on work productivity with a t significance value of 0.036 (< 0.05), as does work motivation with at significance value of 0.009 (< 0.05). Thus, both independent variables, namely work culture and motivation, were statistically proven to have a positive and significant effect on employee productivity. The coefficient of determination value of 72.3% indicates that the variation in employee work productivity can be explained by these two variables. Meanwhile, the remaining 27.7% is influenced by factors outside the scope of this study, such as organizational culture, compensation systems, and other managerial factors. These results emphasize the importance of a positive work culture and strong motivation in enhancing employee performance.

Abstract

Abstract The issue of non-muslim leadership in a country with a majority muslim population, but not in the form of a religious state like Indonesia or secular countries, appears to be a necessity. Indonesian citizens feel this concern, while the general public may not share the same view. That is evident from the resistance often expressed in various mass actions in the name of religion, with various interests behind them. This paper aims to answer two questions: How do certain groups resist non-muslim leaders in Indonesia? What are the variations and interests of resistance to non-muslim leaders that surround them? The research is qualitative and focuses on library research. Michel Foucault's theory and the phenomenological study approach are used to thoroughly analyse the meaning of the participants' perspectives on themselves and their society. The study concludes that resistance to non-Muslim leaders is divided into three groups: Firstly, FPI was formed due to dissatisfaction with the role of the government, the injustice and suffering of Indonesian muslims, and the duty of Muslims to uphold the dignity of religion and muslims itself. Secondly, HTI was formed to reject the democratic political system and demand the establishment of an Islamic caliphal system. Thirdly, MUI is a group formed to reject things on social and religious excuses. Keywords: Non-Muslim Leaders, Religious Organizations, Phenomenology

Abstract

Abstract The Qur'an's verses on national politics suggest that those in power should not be careless when fulfilling their duties. However, in reality, the principles of national politics have been replaced by power politics. As a result, community control has weakened, and power struggles have become increasingly rampant. Amidst the erosion of Qur'anic values in safeguarding the Indonesian national political system, young mufasir Gus Baha contextualises his interpretation to revive the spirit of politics based on the Indonesian nation's values. This research addresses two formulations: Firstly, how is the relevance of Gus Baha's interpretation products to the practice of Indonesian national politics? Secondly, how does Gus Baha's interpretation of national political verses contextualise? The method used is qualitative library research employing Paul Ricoeur's hermeneutic theory. The research concludes two things: firstly, amidst public disappointment with the performance of leaders in this country, Gus Baha provides a breath of fresh air by suggesting that relying on the leader for the community's welfare will not be useful. Secondly, according to Gus Baha's interpretation of the verses on national politics, a leader alone cannot provide great opportunities for the welfare of their people. Instead, it depends on a social system that breeds tolerance and sympathy among them. Keywords: Verses on national politics, contextualisation of interpretation, Gus Baha', Paul Ricoeur's Hermeneutics

Abstract

Related to the genderization of the Qur'an, this Qur'an is a Qur'an that has a more attractive appearance and is accompanied by a translation. Publishers do not hesitate to offer the advantages of their products compared to similar products from other publishers. They compete to hone their creativity, both in terms of cover, content, and completeness of additional text. Readers are increasingly spoiled with various sweet offers offered by publishers. This study intends to reveal two things: First, How are the visual models of genderization of the Qur'anic manuscripts. Second, What are the implications of using visual genderization of the Qur'anic manuscripts for women. This formulation, in addition to finding out how the visual models of genderization of the Qur'anic manuscripts are, is also to find out the implications of their use for women. This study is a literature review, which is based on primary data, in the form of manuscripts specifically for women and primary sources in the form of books related to this. This study concluded: First, the special Qur'an for women has many designs that can attract a woman to study it, in addition to being designed with a beautiful cover, the special Qur'an for women is also equipped with discussions on the laws of Islamic jurisprudence for women, in order to improve and add to the knowledge that they do not yet know. Second, the special Qur'an for women can affect a person's psychology and emotions, which are caused by color to humans in all aspects of life. In color therapy, color is often associated with a person's emotions. Color can also affect a person's mental or physical state. For example, several studies have shown that the color red often triggers an increase in heart rate which will lead to an increase in adrenaline pumped into the bloodstream.
