Abstract

Vitamin D, or calciferol, is a fat-soluble vitamin produced endogenously when ultraviolet (UV) light triggers its synthesis in the skin. It also comes from food and supplements, existing as D2 (ergocalciferol) and D3 (cholecalciferol). Both forms convert into the active form, calcitriol, in the liver and kidneys, with D3 more effectively raising blood levels. Vitamin D supports bone health, regulates cellular functions, and offers anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and neuroprotective benefits. It improves skin health by regulating oil production, soothing inflammation, promoting skin renewal, and strengthening the skin barrier. Deficiency (<20 ng/dL) weakens the skin barrier, causing dryness and roughness. The global prevalence of vitamin D deficiency is rising, with Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, experiencing rates between 35.1% and 91.7%. This study explores the relationship between vitamin D levels and skin health, focusing on pores and roughness in geriatric populations. This cross-sectional study analyzed 26 elderly, measuring vitamin D levels (Vitamin D 25-hydroxy (25(OH)D), skin pore size, and roughness (RGB analysis), with Spearman and partial correlation assessing relationships while controlling for age. Bivariate analysis showed a significant positive relationship between vitamin D levels and pore size (p = 0.03) and a strong, statistically significant relationship between pore size and skin roughness (p < 0.01). Vitamin D influences skin health, including pore size and texture. Monitoring vitamin D levels enables early intervention, improving skin appearance, reducing roughness, and preventing complications from vitamin D deficiency.

Abstract

Hydrated skin is a key indicator of overall skin health, as water content in the stratum corneum plays a vital role in maintaining skin barrier function. Insufficient hydration can lead to dry skin, increase susceptibility to infections, and negatively impact quality of life. This community activity aimed to assess skin water and oil levels among the productive-age population in Grogol as a preventive measure against skin dryness. The activity utilized the Plan–Do–Check–Act (PDCA) approach, which involved planning the screening, measuring skin water and oil levels, evaluating the results, and providing skin care education to participants with abnormal findings. A total of 67 participants from Grogol Village, West Jakarta, took part in this initiative. The results indicated that 11 participants (16.42%) had low oil levels and 14 participants (20.9%) had low water levels. These findings highlight the importance of maintaining proper skin hydration through adequate water intake, regular use of moisturizers, and healthy lifestyle habits. Early detection and education regarding skin hydration proved to be effective strategies in preventing dry skin and enhancing overall quality of life. Abstract

Abstract

ABSTRACT Acne vulgaris, commonly known as acne, is one of the most prevalent skin disorders with multifactorial causes including hormonal influences, stress, dietary patterns, iatrogenic factors (such as corticosteroid use), and external triggers like seasonal changes and oil exposure. Double cleansing, a two-step skin cleansing method starting with oil-based cleansers followed by water-based products, features commonly used products like micellar water, cleansingbalms, and cleansing oils, with oil-based cleansers being potentially acne-triggering especially for oily skin types. This study aimed to examine the relationship between skin types and double cleanser selection with acne vulgarisscores among medical students at Tarumanagara University during the 2024/2025 period, employing a cross-sectional analytic observational design with 93 respondents who completed Baumann's Skin Type Questionnaire and underwent facial scanning with subsequent acne analysis using Lehmann's grading method. The results showed significant differences in mean acne scores across double cleanser groups: micellar water (M=7.65), cleansing balm (M=9.31), and cleansing oil (M=14.11), with kruskall-wallis test revealing a statistically significant association (p=0.002, p<0.05), leading to the conclusion that oil-based double cleansers, particularly cleansing oils, are associated with higher acne vulgaris incidence.

Abstract

Background: Acne vulgaris is a common skin condition that causes blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples. It is caused by a number of things, like too much oil, clogged pores, and inflammation. Topical combination creams are an alternative treatment for acne. They can help reduce inflammation, kill bacteria that cause acne, and stop the skin from making too much oil. Topical combination creams like retinoids, antibiotics, and steroids are all mixed together in a single cream or gel. This study talks about the effectiveness and side effects of using combination creams (tretinoin 0.05%, clindamycin 3%, and dexamethasone 0.05%) to treat acne in the short and long term (local and systemic). Methods: This study is a survey that was done at the Sukma clinic with data from 2022 patients who were diagnosed with acne vulgaris. The survey was done on Google Forms, which is a website. In this study, different factors were looked at, such as demographics, efficacy (like reducing acne severity, making the skin brighter, getting rid of blackheads on the face, getting rid of acne scars, improving skin texture, hiding scars, minimizing facial pores, getting rid of wrinkles and dark spots), local adverse events (like burning, itching, stinging, eruptive papules, hypopigmentation, hyperpigmentation, erythema, scaling, and other), and systemic adverse events. Results: The results of this study show that a combination of tretinoin 0.05%, clindamycin 3%, and dexamethasone 0.05% is very effective and has minimal side effects. Local symptoms only show up during the first week of taking the drug (the "sensitization phase"), and then they tend to get less common over time. The only exceptions are hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation, which show up later because they are caused by healing acne lesions. Conclusion: There was no direct link between the use of anti-acne combination cream drugs and the number of systemic side effects. This is because the patient had often had this happen before (constipation, GERD, and others).

Abstract

UV rays can affect various skin physiology, including changes in skin thickness and skin color. Vitamin C acts as an antioxidant to reduce melanin and skin damage caused by the sun, but it requires a combination with other therapies to get optimal results. This research focuses on the effectiveness of microneedling with vitamin C against pigmentation and skin damage due to sun exposure. The design of this research is quasi experimental. Patients who have atrophic acne scars who meet the inclusion criteria and are treated at Sukma Cliniq Tangerang are the population in this study. The intervention in this study was microneedling with a mixture of 10% vitamin C serum to improve the skin (given when the intervention was carried out and used at home for 21 days). The intervention will be carried out on day 0 according to the procedure previously explained and measured again on day 42. The variable measurements in this study aim at the value of UV damage and skin pigmentation before and after the combination therapy. Results: There were 36 respondents who met the inclusion criteria for this study with an average age of 33.03 years and 69.4% of respondents were women. There were changes and improvements in roughness, porphyrin, and pigmentation parameters (p value <0.001), but there was no change in UV damage parameters (p value 0.500) both before and after the intervention. There were changes and improvements in roughness, porphyrin, and pigmentation parameters after microneedling and vitamin C therapy before and after 42 days of therapy. However, there are no changes and improvements to the UV damage parameters.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Acne vulgaris is an inflammatory disorder that impacts pilosebaceous glands, affecting many adolescents physically and psychologically. The finest acne cream comprises retinoids, antibiotics, and corticosteroids. Accuracy of acne vulgaris therapy affects the healing and prognosis. To compare the efficacy of a single topical cream containing 0.05% Tretinoin to a combination cream containing Clindamycin 3%, Tretinoin 0.05%, and Dexamethasone 0.05%. This was a retrospective cohort study that included 1027 respondents, observing the result of using 2 types of creams for treating acne: 1) a single tretinoin 0.05% cream and 2) a combination cream therapy (Clindamycin 3%, Tretinoin 0.05%, and Dexamethasone 0.05%). The evaluated parameters were mean reduction in acne lesions quantity as the main objective and other side parameters (Spot, Pore, Wrinkle, UV moisture, UV damage, Roughness, Porphyrin, Pigmentation, and Hydration) as the secondary goals. This study shows that there was a significant difference both in primary and secondary endpoints between single tretinoin 0.05% cream and combination cream therapy (Clindamycin 3%, Tretinoin 0.05%, and Dexamethasone 0.05%) with p-value <0.05 in all parameters. As for adverse events, there was no statistically significant difference locally, and no incidence was found systemically. Combination cream (Clindamycin 3%, Dexamethasone 0.05%, and Tretinoin 0.05%) might provide superior primary and secondary efficacy parameters in acne treatment than single tretinoin cream. Keywords: Acne vulgaris, Safety, Effectiveness, Tretinoin, Clindamycin, Dexamethasone
