Abstract

The rapid expansion of digital technology has increased adolescents’ vulnerability to Fear of Missing Out (FoMO), potentially affecting their spiritual development. This study examined the structural relationships among FoMO, school climate, self-control, and adolescent spirituality, with self-control as a moderating variable. A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted with 100 junior high school students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a 28-indicator questionnaire on a five-point Likert scale and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4. The measurement and structural models demonstrated satisfactory validity, reliability, and model fit. School climate had the strongest direct effect on adolescent spirituality, followed by FoMO and self-control. Self-control significantly moderated the relationships between both FoMO and school climate with adolescent spirituality. Higher self-control reduced the adverse effects of FoMO and enhanced the positive influence of a supportive school environment. These findings indicate that adolescent spirituality is shaped by the interaction of environmental and psychological factors. The study contributes an integrated structural model and highlights the importance of strengthening positive school climates and self-control development in character and spiritual education programs.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the mediating role of pesantren climate in the relationship between self-concept and social support and the subjective well-being (SWB) of Qur’an-memorizing santri. A quantitative approach with a correlational survey design was employed at Bina Madani Islamic Boarding School in Magelang, Indonesia. The accessible population consisted of 198 female students in Grades 10–12, of whom 143 were selected as the main sample using purposive sampling based on predetermined inclusion criteria. Data were collected using five-point Likert scales measuring social support, self-concept, pesantren climate, and SWB. The instruments were tested in a pilot study involving 30 santri and demonstrated adequate to very high reliability (Cronbach’s α = 0.769–0.935). Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation and mediation analysis with PROCESS Macro Model 4 and 5,000 bias-corrected bootstrap samples. The findings showed that pesantren climate was strongly correlated with SWB (r = 0.811, p < 0.001) and had a positive effect on SWB (B = 0.808, p < 0.001). Social support had a significant indirect effect on SWB through pesantren climate (effect = 0.155, 95% CI [0.072, 0.251]), whereas its direct effect was not significant. Self-concept demonstrated significant direct and indirect effects through pesantren climate (effect = 0.197, 95% CI [0.064, 0.345]), indicating partial mediation. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening pesantren climate as a contextual mechanism for promoting the subjective well-being of Qur’an-memorizing santri.

Abstract

This study is to investigate the function of emotional intelligence as a mediator between social support and school climate in improving the subjective well-being of teenagers in Yogyakarta. Subjective well-being is a crucial component of adolescent psychological development, shaped by the social and emotional context within educational settings. The research methodology employs a quantitative approach, utilizing a sample of students from boarding schools in Yogyakarta. Data were gathered using a questionnaire assessing levels of social support, school atmosphere, emotional intelligence, and subjective well-being. Path analysis was performed to investigate the links among variables and the mediating function of emotional intelligence. The findings indicate that social support and school climate exert a direct positive influence on adolescents' subjective well-being, with emotional intelligence serving as a substantial mediator in this relationship. These findings highlight the significance of cultivating emotional intelligence, alongside fostering good social support and a conducive school atmosphere, to improve the psychological well-being of adolescents in boarding school settings. These findings conceptually endorse Bronfenbrenner's theory of developmental ecology, which posits that an individual's well-being is shaped by the interplay between personal variables and their social environmental milieu.
