Abstract

Low student interest in reading and the suboptimal integration of literacy corners into learning remain issues in elementary schools, where literacy corners generally serve only as book storage areas. This community service activity aims to transform literacy corners into part of the development of inspiring deep learning based classrooms to support a culture of literacy in schools. The program was implemented over three months, involving 10 teachers and 100 students from Ngenep 1 and Bumiayu 01 Elementary School, Malang Regency, through a participatory and contextual approach that emphasized the active involvement of teachers and students in each stage of the activity. Program evaluation was conducted using structured observation, reading interest questionnaires, analysis of literacy corner visit frequency, and semi-structured interviews with teachers and students. The evaluation results showed a 75% increase in visits to the literacy corner in three months, from an average of 2.5 times per week before the program to 4.4 times per week after the program, accompanied by a threefold increase in book borrowing in one semester. Qualitatively, students showed more active involvement in reading discussions, learning reflections, and various literacy activities. This indicates that the integration of deep learning-based literacy corners is effective in strengthening literacy culture and creating a meaningful learning environment in elementary schools, thus having the potential to become a model for managing corners.

Abstract

Scientific literacy and critical thinking skills are essential competencies for elementary school students in the global era. Scientific literacy is not only the mastery of scientific concepts, but also the ability to use that knowledge to understand phenomena and make evidence-based decisions, which are important foundations in developing students' critical thinking skills. This study aims to analyze the relationship between scientific literacy and critical thinking skills in fourth-grade students at SDN Ciptomulyo 1 Malang. The problem identified in this study is the need to improve students' critical thinking skills, especially in the aspects of evaluation and reflection on complex information. The method used is qualitative with a population of all parties related to learning in fourth grade, and the research subjects consisted of teachers and 24 fourth-grade students who were selected purposively. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, narrative and tabular presentation, classification, source triangulation, and drawing conclusions. This research is relevant and urgent to conduct because scientific literacy and critical thinking skills are highly needed today, especially in facing the challenges of the 21st century. The results show that students with high scientific literacy tend to have good critical thinking skills, especially in analysis, interpretation, and evidence- based decision-making. Research findings show that students with high scientific literacy scores tend to have high critical thinking scores. However, their ability to evaluate and reflect on complex information still needs improvement. The study's conclusions confirm that scientific literacy is an important foundation for developing critical thinking skills, supported by interactive learning methods and the role of teachers. Consequently, schools need to actively integrate scientific literacy into their learning, develop innovative learning methods, and provide adequate learning resources to enhance students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

P5-based science project e-module for training collaboration through organic waste management Abstract: The purpose of this study was to develop a science project-based e-module grounded in the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5) that is valid, practical, and effective in enhancing elementary students’ collaboration skills. The method employed was research and development using the ADDIE model, encompassing analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The research subjects consisted of 26 elementary school students selected through random sampling, along with material, media, and language experts as validators. Data were collected through questionnaires, observations, and tests, and analyzed using a Likert scale to assess validity and practicality, as well as N-Gain analysis to measure learning effectiveness. The results indicate that the e-module is categorized as highly feasible and highly practical. The findings reveal effective learning outcomes with an N-Gain value of 0.73 and a collaboration skills achievement of 95.67%. The conclusion confirms that the P5-based science project e-module is effective and applicable as a project-based learning medium for fostering collaboration skills in elementary education.
