Abstract

Objectives: This research aimed to investigate the correlation between participation in the traditional Indonesian folk game "Hadang" and motor skill development among elementary school students at SD Negeri 064006 Medan City. Methods: A cross-sectional correlational study was conducted with 120 students (ages 6-12 years) from SD Negeri 064006. Motor skills were assessed using the Test of Gross Motor Development-3 (TGMD-3) and fine motor skills evaluation. Hadang game participation was measured through structured observation and participation frequency questionnaires over 12 weeks. Results: Strong positive correlations were found between Hadang game participation and gross motor skills (r = 0.76, p < 0.001), agility (r = 0.68, p < 0.001), and coordination (r = 0.72, p < 0.001). Students with regular Hadang participation showed significantly higher motor skill scores compared to non-participants. Conclusion: Traditional folk game Hadang demonstrates significant positive correlation with motor skill development in elementary students, suggesting its potential as an effective physical education intervention.

Abstract

The development of information and communication technology has had a significant impact on the world of education, including in the process of physical education learning. Learning, which was previously only done conventionally, has now shifted towards digitization and the use of application-based technology. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of mobile application-based blended learning in improving students' cognitive and affective competencies in physical education. The method used is a quasi-experiment with a pre-test and post-test control group design. The research subjects consisted of 60 high school students divided into two groups, namely the experimental group (n=30) who used mobile application-based blended learning and the control group (n=30) who used conventional learning. The results showed that the experimental group experienced an increase in cognitive scores from 56.4 to 82.7 and affective scores from 60.1 to 85.3. Meanwhile, the control group experienced an increase in cognitive scores from 55.8 to 69.4 and affective scores from 59.7 to 70.2. The t-test results showed a significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.05). This study concluded that mobile application-based blended learning is effective in improving students' cognitive and affective competencies.

Abstract

Examining the validity and reliability of a physical fitness test tool created especially for physical education students was the goal of this study.  To ensure precise evaluation and evidence-driven curriculum development, it is increasingly vital in higher education to utilize standardized and psychometrically robust tools for assessing physical fitness. The study involved 200 physical education students, aged 18 to 23. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were employed to assess the construct validity of the tool, while five specialists utilized the Content Validity Index (CVI) to review its content validity. Cronbach’s alpha was used to evaluate internal consistency, while the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) was employed to measure test-retest stability. The findings indicated strong reliability (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.91; ICC = 0.88), solid construct validity with six identified variables (KMO = 0.82; Bartlett’s Test p < 0.001; CFA CFI = 0.94; RMSEA = 0.05), and considerable content validity (CVI = 0.89). These results endorse the standardization of fitness evaluation tools and offer valuable insights for educators, researchers, and coaches in higher education, demonstrating that the tool is valid, reliable, and suitable for both academic research and practical use.

Abstract

Problems in badminton learning and training in elementary schools are still commonly found in long service skills, such as incorrect stroke techniques, lack of arm strength, and inaccurate shuttlecock direction. One form of physical training that is thought to affect long service skills is push-up training. This study aims to determine the effect of push-up training on long service skills in elementary school extracurricular students. The research method used is a quantitative method with a one-group pretest-posttest experimental design. The research subjects consisted of 15 fourth and fifth grade students who participated in badminton extracurricular activities at UPT SD Negeri 060879. Data collection techniques were carried out through a badminton long service test conducted before (pretest) and after (posttest) the push-up training treatment for six weeks. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. The results showed an increase in badminton long service ability after push-up training, with a pretest average score of 22.06 and an increase to 39.46 on the posttest. These findings indicate that push-up training has a positive effect on improving students' badminton long service ability. Thus, push-up training can be used as an alternative physical exercise to support the improvement of basic badminton skills in elementary schools.

Abstract

The need for structured and standardized learning materials in Tapak Suci martial arts has become increasingly urgent, especially at the junior high school level where instructional resources are often limited. This study aimed to develop and validate an illustrated instructional textbook to support systematic Tapak Suci learning. The ADDIE model was employed, covering analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. Expert validation was conducted by a media specialist and a Tapak Suci material expert, while practicality testing involved 10 students. The media expert provided a score of 9/9 (100%), indicating excellent visual quality and usability. The material expert also assigned a score of 9/9 (100%), confirming content accuracy and alignment with Tapak Suci fundamentals. Practicality testing produced a 100% positive response, showing that students found the textbook easy to understand and suitable for skill practice. These results demonstrate that the developed textbook is highly valid and practical, supporting its feasibility for use in Tapak Suci instruction at junior high schools.

Abstract

Cardiovascular endurance is a fundamental component of physical fitness that significantly influences both health and physical performance. In physical education, assessing cardiovascular endurance is essential to monitor students’ fitness levels. However, laboratory-based tests such as the graded exercise test (GXT) are often impractical due to the need for specialized equipment and high costs. Therefore, there is a need for a simpler, more efficient, yet valid alternative instrument one of which is the aerobic step test. This study employed a quantitative approach with a criterion validity design. The research subjects consisted of 30 Physical Education students selected through purposive sampling. The primary instrument was the aerobic step test, in which recovery heart rate (HR1rec) was measured, while the comparative instrument was the graded exercise test (GXT) for VO₂max assessment. Data were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation test, simple linear regression, and Bland Altman agreement analysis with the assistance of SPSS software. The findings revealed a strong correlation between VO₂max derived from the aerobic step test and that obtained from GXT (r = 0.812; p < 0.001). The coefficient of determination indicated that the step test could explain 65.9% of the variance in VO₂max (R² = 0.659). Bland Altman analysis demonstrated a bias of –0.77 ml·kg⁻¹·min⁻¹ with limits of agreement of ±4.85, which is considered practically acceptable for field application. The aerobic step test is validated as a simple, practical, and efficient tool for assessing cardiovascular endurance among students. This instrument can serve as a reliable alternative to laboratory-based fitness testing in physical education settings where laboratory facilities are unavailable.
