Abstract

Komunikasi nonverbal telah didefinisikan sebagai komunikasi tanpa kata. Ini mencakup perilaku yang tampak seperti ekspresi wajah, mata, sentuhan, dan nada suara, serta pesan yang kurang jelas seperti pakaian, postur, dan jarak spasial antara dua orang atau lebih. Semuanya berkomunikasi, termasuk objek material, ruang fisik, dan sistem waktu. Meskipun output verbal dapat dimatikan, nonverbal tidak bisa. Bahkan diam pun berbicara. "Hal terpenting dalam komunikasi adalah mendengar apa yang tidak dikatakan." – Peter F. Drucker, Dalam berkomunikasi tidak semua bahasa di komunikasikan lewat berbicara, terkadang sesuatu diekspresikan dengan Bahasa tubuh atau gesture yang dapat membawa lebih banyak makna dan bobot daripada apa yang dikatakan, kata-kata itu sendiri. Disertai dengan senyuman atau cemberut, diucapkan dengan suara keras, memarahi atau lembut, isi komunikasi kita dibingkai oleh persepsi holistik kita tentang konteksnya. Komunikasi secara umum adalah proses pengiriman dan penerimaan pesan yang memungkinkan manusia untuk berbagi pengetahuan, sikap, dan keterampilan. Meskipun kita biasanya mengidentifikasi komunikasi dengan ucapan, komunikasi terdiri dari dua dimensi - verbal dan nonverbal. Kata Kunci: non verbal, komunikasi, holistic, berbicara, tanpa kata Nonverbal communication has been defined as communication without words. This includes visible behaviors such as facial expressions, eyes, touch, and tone of voice, as well as less obvious messages such as clothing, posture, and the spatial distance between two or more people. Everything communicates, including material objects, physical space, and time systems. Although verbal output can be turned off, but not in nonverbal. Even silence speaks. Drucker, In communicating not all languages are communicated through speaking, sometimes something is expressed with body language or gestures that can carry more meaning and weight than what is said, the words themselves. Accompanied by a smile or a frown, spoken aloud, scolding or soft, the content of our communication is framed by our holistic perception of its context. Communication in general is the process of sending and receiving messages that enable humans to share knowledge, attitudes, and skills. Abstract

Karya sastra pada dasarnya erat dengan kehidupan kita, dengan adanya karya sastra kita dapat belajar mengenai prilaku manusia terutama dalam kehidupan bermasyarakat. Seperti pada penelitian ini yang berfokus dalam membahas aspek psikologi menggunakan karya sastra berupa naskah film The Woman In The Window karya Tracy Letts, mengenai prilaku Anna Fox sebagai karakter utama. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan psikologi sastra. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Sigmund Freud dalam konsep kecemasan dan naluri manusia. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan kecemasan pada Anna berupa kecemasan realistik, neurotik, dan moral. Kecemasan pada dirinya berkaitan dengan agoraphobia yang dideritanya, Anna juga mendapat kenyataan baru yang menjadi penyebab dirinya menderita agoraphobia yang berkaitan dengan kejadian dimasa lalunya. Akibat gangguan cemas pada dirinya ini yang tanpa sadar memunculkan naluri kematian pada prilaku dalam setiap tindakannya.Kata Kunci: Kecemasan, Naluri Kematian, Psikologi Sastra, The Woman in The Window.AbstractLiterary works are basically close to our lives, with literary works we can learn about human behavior, especially in social life. As in this study which focus on discussing psychological aspects using literary works use movie script The Woman In The Window by Tracy Letts, regarding the behavior of Anna Fox as the main character. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a literary psychology approach. This study uses Sigmund Freud's theory on the concept of anxiety and human instincts. The results of this study indicate that Anna's anxiety is realistic, neurotic, and moral anxiety. Anxiety in herself is related to her agoraphobia, Anna also got a new reality which causes her has agoraphobia related to events in her past. As a result of this anxiety disorder in her which unconsciously raises the death instinct in her behavior in every action.Keywords: Anxiety, Death Instinct, Literary Psychology, The Woman in The Window.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pemaknaan atas makna pidato yang disampaikan oleh setiap presiden yang berpotensi dipengaruhi oleh hal-hal subjektif yang dapat menimbulkan kegaduhan di suatu negara. Salah satu metode ilmiah yang digunakan untuk menemukan makna tersembunyi dari komentar tentang masalah sosial politik, kebijakan, dan gaya kepemimpinan adalah analisis wacana kritis. Dengan menggunakan Analisis Wacana Kritis Van Dijk pada Pidato Pelantikan Presiden Joe Biden, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap kebijakan Amerika Serikat. Analisis tersebut menunjukkan secara ilmiah bahwa Presiden Joe Biden memprioritaskan pemulihan masalah domestik daripada masalah internasional, dengan rasio persentase 70 persen : 30 persen. Persatuan, keamanan dalam negeri, dan keseimbangan terhadap masalah demokrasi adalah masalah pertama yang harus diperbaiki, diikuti dengan masalah internasional. Dalam pidatonya, Joe Biden menggunakan sosiokognitif superstruktur untuk menunjukkan pendekatan humanistik. Selain itu, Presiden Joe Biden lebih sering menggunakan pengulangan dan aliterasi sebagai kiasan untuk menekankan pesannya daripada Barack Obama, dan gaya bahasanya lebih sistematis dan lugas. Kata kunci: Analisis Wacana Kritis, Van Dijk, Joe Biden; Barack Obama; PidatoThe aims of the research is undermined by an absorption of the meaning of speeches delivered by any president who is potentially influenced by subjective things that can trigger a nation's agitation. One of the scientific methods used to find the hidden meaning of comments on social-political issues, policies, and styles of leadership is critical discourse analysis. Using Van Dijk's Critical Wacana Analysis on President Joe Biden's Appointment Speech, this study aims to uncover US policy. The analysis demonstrates scientifically that President Joe Biden prioritizes the recovery of domestic problems over international problems, with a 70 percent to 30 percent ratio. Unity, domestic security, and the balance of issues of democracy are the first issues to be fixed, followed by international issues. In his speech, Joe Biden used superstructured sociocognitive to demonstrate a humanistic approach. Besides, President Joe Biden is more likely to use repetition and aliteration as a pretext to emphasize his message than Barack Obama, and his style of speech is more systematic and coherent. Abstract

Dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, peran kita sebagai pengguna bahasa adalah hal yang tak bisa terlepas dari diri kita. Di segala lini kehidupan, kita membutuhkan bahasa guna berkomunikasi dengan orang lain: dengan keluarga, teman, tetangga, rekan kerja, dan lainnya. Kajian pragmatik selalu tertarik dalam menggali lebih dalam mengenai fenomena penggunaan bahasa tersebut. Salah satu hal yang disorot dalam kajian ilmu ini adalah mengenai ujaran yang kita sampaikan, baik secara langsung maupun tidak langsung, dalam suatu percakapan. Artinya, kita tidak selamanya menyampaikan sesuatu secara terang-terangan, bahwa dalam konteks tertentu, terdapat maksud tersembunyi yang kita sisipkan dalam ujaran. Pragmatik menyebut hal itu dengan implikatur. Studi ini bertujuan memberikan gambaran komprehensif mengenai penggunaan implikatur dalam suatu karya sastra. Studi ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode analisis isi. Teknik pemercontohan bertujuan digunakan sebagai teknik pengumpulan data, dan data yang digunakan untuk analisis adalah ujaran yang disampaikan tokoh dalam novel. Hasil studi menunjukkan bahwa dalam novel The King’s Curse, yang ditulis oleh Gregory, ditemukan dua jenis implikatur yang digunakan oleh para tokoh di novel ini. Jenis implikatur tersebut adalah implikatur percakapan umum dan khusus. Dua jenis itu digunakan secara berbeda, bergantung kepada konteks situasi tertentu yang melatarbelakangi percakapan yang dilakukan tokoh dalam novel ini.Kata kunci: konteks, implikatur percakapan umum, implikatur percakapan khusus, novel. In daily life, our role as language user is something that is inseparable. In every part of our life, we need language to help us communicating to other people: to your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and others. Pragmatics is always interested to dig deeper on the phenomenon of the language use in our daily conversation. One of the things highlighted in this linguistics branch is that how people, in fact, utter something both directly and indirectly in their conversation. It means that, we do not only say something straightforward, but, in some particular context, our hidden intention is being inserted in our utterance. Pragmatics calls it implicature. This study aims to give a comprehensive outline of the use of implicature found in a literary work. The study used qualitative approach, with content analysis method. The researchers used purposive sampling as the data collection technique, and the data used in this study are utterances of the characters found in the novel. The result of the study shows that in The King’s Curse novel written by Gregory, there are two types of implicature used by the characters of the novel. They are generalized and particularized conversational implicature. Both types are used differently, as there is particular situational context as the backstory.Keywords: context, generalized conversational implicature, particularized conversational implicature, novel.

Abstract

In general, there are special package book practice questionsReading Comprehension adjusted to students' level of thinking so that it can help students improve critical thinking as one of the basic cognitive abilities as explained by Bloom's. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the practice questions in sectionReading Comprehension in the textbookEFL class 12. To find out what the contents of the practice questions in sectionReading Comprehensionalready in line with the achievement of the 2013 curriculum which emphasizes the ability to think at a high level(I.E.). Descriptive-qualitative is applied as a research method. By using a listchecklist Based on the revised Bloom's taxonomy theory update, researchers found thatLOTS contributed a figure of 60.9%, whileI MEANis 39.1%. The results of this research are that the textbooks issued by the Ministry of Education and Culture are still inadequate and do not meet the needs of grade 12 students. The questions in the books are dominated byLOTS. Researchers suggest to curriculum designers, book writers and publishers that in the future they can provide more adequate and effective teaching materials so that they can improve students' cognitive abilities

Abstract

A B S T R A C T This study aims to examine the implementation of politeness strategies by four Balinese individuals working in the tourism sector while communicating with Australian and English tourists in Canggu, Bali. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through non-participant observation. Brown and Levinson's theory of politeness is utilized to analyze and categorize the data. The findings reveal that the communication between the Balinese and the tourists involves four politeness strategies: bald-on record, positive politeness, negative politeness, and off-record. Among these, positive politeness and off-record strategies are the most frequently employed by the Balinese speakers. These strategies are primarily influenced by the tourists' roles as guests and customers, prompting the Balinese speakers to use direct yet polite and friendly language to satisfy the tourists. Results shows that that the objective of the Balinese as a speaker employing the politeness approach is to please the listener's face and reach a better and more relevant discourse.

Abstract

This research is a Research & Development which aims at investigating the development of instructional materials based on local wisdom. The materials developed were designed from the result of the students’ need analysis and teacher specialist’ interview at STKIP Muhammadiyah Pagaralam in Introduction to Literature subject and validated by experts. The research data were collected from student’s questionnaire, specialist’s interview and experts’ validation. Regarding the data of the students’ questionnaire which consisted of 35 students, it was found that most of the students were interested in literature but they found problems such as; the language of the texts, unfamiliar literary texts, difficult in appreciating the texts and lack of skill in writing literary text. However, according to them local wisdom was very important to be developed beside to preserve and enrich students’ knowledge about the culture of the local area also to help students comprehend the materials as well.  Besides, students also needed bigger text and more work sheets in the modul. This finding was also in line with the lecturer specialist’s interview which was described qualitatively in which it explained that local wisdom can be such a good alternative literary materials in teaching learning process to help students comprehend the texts used. Based on expert validation, local wisdom materials also gave an extra point in the materials developed. Expert validation stated that from the whole aspects of validation, the development of the materials met very good criteria and met the students’ need.

Abstract

Mandi Balimau Gedang adalah tradisi masyarakat Dusun Jambu, Kecamatan Tebo Ulu, Kabupaten Tebo, Provinsi Jambi, yang diwariskan secara turun-temurun. Ritual ini memiliki makna sakral sebagai bentuk penyucian diri sebelum Ramadan dan perlindungan dari marabahaya. Studi ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode tinjauan pustaka dan wawancara mendalam terhadap dukun setempat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa selain sebagai ritual keagamaan, tradisi ini juga memiliki dimensi sosial dan budaya yang kuat. Namun, modernisasi dan eksploitasi sumber daya alam menjadi tantangan dalam menjaga keasliannya. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan upaya pelestarian agar tradisi ini tetap bertahan di tengah perubahan zaman.

Abstract

 The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in language learning has transformed academic writing, particularly in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) contexts. AI-powered writing tools such as QuillBot offer real-time feedback, automated paraphrasing, and grammatical enhancements, potentially improving students’ writing proficiency. However, limited research explores the specific impact of QuillBot on argumentative essay writing in EFL classrooms. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of QuillBot in enhancing the writing skills of third-semester EFL students at Universitas Darma Persada, Indonesia. Using a quasi-experimental design, 60 students were divided into an experimental group (QuillBot-assisted learning) and a control group (traditional instruction). Pre-test and post-test essay scores were analyzed using SPSS 27.0 to assess improvements in structure, coherence, and grammar. The findings revealed that students using QuillBot showed significantly higher improvements in writing proficiency compared to those in the control group. The experimental group demonstrated enhanced argumentation, coherence, and grammatical accuracy, indicating that AI-assisted tools can be effective in fostering writing development. The study concludes that QuillBot is a valuable supplementary tool for EFL writing instruction, providing instant feedback and reducing students’ dependency on traditional teacher-led corrections. Educators are encouraged to integrate AI writing assistants into teaching methodologies to optimize learning outcomes. Future research should explore the long-term effects of AI-assisted writing on different writing genres and across diverse educational contexts.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of using Instagram as a social media platform to enhance students’ reading comprehension among tenth-grade students at SMK 02 Empat Lawang. The research employed a quasi-experimental design involving two groups: an experimental class taught using Instagram and a control class taught through conventional methods. The participants consisted of 62 students, divided equally between the two groups. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests comprising 40 multiple-choice questions related to narrative texts. Statistical analysis, including paired sample t-tests and independent t-tests, revealed a significant improvement in reading comprehension in the experimental class compared to the control class. The mean post-test score of the experimental group (75.40) was significantly higher than that of the control group (54.67), indicating that integrating Instagram into reading instruction effectively enhanced students’ engagement and comprehension. The findings suggest that incorporating social media, particularly Instagram, into educational practices can serve as a powerful tool for improving language skills in the digital age. Highlights: Innovative use of Instagram for reading narrative texts. Significant improvement in students’ post-test scores. Suggests Instagram’s pedagogical value in digital learning.
