Abstract

This study examines Masdar Farid Mas’udi’s concept of transformative exegesis, particularly his reconstruction of zakat as a social justice instrument that can be integrated into the national taxation system. Employing a contextual and maqâṣid al-sharî‘ah-based approach, Masdar challenges the ritualistic view of zakat and proposes its reinterpretation as a structural mechanism for equitable wealth distribution. This study uses a qualitative method through literature review, analyzing Masdar’s works and relevant scholarly sources. The findings suggest that a transformative understanding of zakat provides a promising path for renewing Islamic legal thought in ways that uphold the core values of the sharia while remaining responsive to contemporary socio-economic realities. Masdar’s framework offers a constructive bridge between religious texts and public policy grounded in social justice

Abstract

Sharia law found in the Qur'an still requires interpretation and has the potential to evolve. Abdullahi Ahmed An-Na'im answers the gap between sharia and issues of modernity. The deconstruction of sharia is used in the problem of Islamic law with current issues using an analytical knife in the form of Mahmud Thaha's theory of legal evolution, the theory of nasikh mansukh, Makiyyah and Madaniyyah, the meaning of gender texts and the concept of sharia on human rights. All Muslims in the world have the right to apply Islamic law as long as it does not violate the rights of other people, other groups or other religions

Abstract

This papper is an attempt to integrate the method of interpreting the Al-Qur'an developed by Nasr Hâmid Abû Zaid, namely the theory of takwil al-Qur'an. This study found that the takwil theory that constructed by Nasr Hâmid Abû Zaid emphasizes the importance of paying attention to the role of the author of the text, interpreter and context, as a theory for interpreting the Qur'an. Once applied, this theory can provide an interpretation that can reveal the side of justice in the concept of distribution of inheritance in the study of Islamic law. The approach used in this study is a hermeneutic approach in order to understand the interpretation of religious texts which are considered relevant to the concept of distribution of inheritance in the study of Islam law

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the integration of Qur'anic values into the Tribrata and Catur Prasetya of the POLRI, and their relevance to strengthening institutional ethics and religious moderation in the development of police human resources. This study departs from the fact that research on religious moderation tends to develop in the context of policy, education, and the digital space, whereas studies on Tribrata and Catur Prasetya are more firmly placed within the framework of professional ethics and institutional professionalism. Using qualitative research based on literature reviews and thematic interpretation, this article examines Qur'anic verses related to wasathiyyah, amanah, al-'adl/qist, tasamuh, tawazun, and i'tidal, and then compares them with the formulations of Tribrata and Catur Prasetya as life and work guidelines for the POLRI. The results of the study show that the Qur'anic values correspond substantively with the ethos of devotion, justice, protection, service, and moral responsibility within the POLRI. Tribrata and Catur Prasetya, therefore, are not sufficiently understood as a formal ethical formulation of the organization, but can be reread as a Qur'anic institutional ethos that deepens the moral-spiritual basis of the apparatus's formation. This article emphasizes that integrating Qur'anic values into the POLRI's institutional ethics strengthens religious moderation that is more transcendental, humanist, and oriented towards public benefit.

Abstract

In contemporary Qur’anic studies, modernist and orientalist approaches have become increasingly influential. These two approaches offer new frameworks for understanding the Qur’an but often separate the sacred text from its spiritual and metaphysical roots. The modernist perspective emphasizes reason, historical context, and linguistic analysis, while the orientalist view relies on philological and historical-critical methods developed within secular academic traditions. As a result, both tend to reduce the Qur’an to a cultural or historical artifact rather than preserving its role as divine revelation. This study aims to examine the critical perspective of Seyyed Hossein Nasr on these two interpretive trends and to explore the alternative hermeneutical framework he proposes. The research applies a qualitative method using literature review and textual analysis of Nasr’s major writings. The findings reveal that Nasr strongly criticizes both approaches for neglecting the spiritual dimension of the Qur’an. He argues that understanding the Qur’an requires a return to sacred and traditional interpretation methods that emphasize inner spiritual meaning. Nasr promotes a hermeneutic approach that integrates reason, intuition, and spiritual insight, allowing for a more holistic understanding of revelation. He also underscores the role of traditional scholars and spiritual authorities in maintaining the integrity of Qur’anic meaning. The study concludes that Nasr’s alternative framework offers a meaningful response to the limitations of modernist and orientalist interpretations. By restoring the balance between textual analysis and spiritual depth, his approach contributes significantly to enriching Qur’anic hermeneutics. It encourages future scholarship to reengage with the sacred aspects of revelation in ways that are both intellectually rigorous and spiritually grounded.
