Abstract

This study explores the historical relationship between the Dayak Ngaju and Katingan languages through a comparative lexical and phonological analysis. A total of 225 word pairs were examined using lexicostatistical and historical phonology methods. Each pair was classified into one of three categories: cognates, likely cognates, and non-cognates. The findings show that 46.22% of the pairs are clear cognates, 22.22% are likely cognates, and 31.56% are non-cognates. In addition to lexical similarities, phonological processes such as apheresis, apocope, paragoge, and single phoneme differences were identified, further supporting their genealogical relationship. These patterns indicate that the two languages likely descend from a common proto-language within the Austronesian family. Core vocabulary items such as “water,” “dog,” and “bird” remain identical, reflecting lexical stability. The study not only affirms a strong linguistic connection between Ngaju and Katingan but also contributes to the preservation of regional languages by documenting their historical and structural ties.

Abstract

This paper examines Roald Dahl’s Lamb to the Slaughter using Vladimir Propp’s Morphology of the Folktale to uncover the underlying structural and character functions embedded within the narrative. Although classified as a modern domestic crime story, the tale aligns with traditional folktale structures through its sequence of narrative functions and character archetypes. By mapping Propp’s 31 functions and seven spheres of action onto the story’s events, this analysis reveals how these classical elements are preserved, inverted, or subverted to create irony and critique societal expectations, especially those surrounding gender and justice. Mary Maloney, the central character, structurally embodies the role of the “hero,” despite committing a crime, while other roles such as villain, helper, donor, and false hero are cleverly reassigned. The study also highlights how the narrative challenges the conventional notion of justice and authority, revealing the flexibility and relevance of Proppian theory when applied to modern literature. Ultimately, this research affirms the enduring utility of structuralist frameworks in revealing hidden ideological dimensions in contemporary storytelling.

Abstract

This article describes comprehensive training centered on applying the technique of steaming natural dyes sourced from local plants to silk in ecoprint batik, which was carried out at the Bawi DayakAssociation group located in Palangka Raya City. Natural dyes, derived from native flora, play an important role in preserving cultural heritage, encouraging sustainable practices, and promoting environmentally friendly alternatives to synthetic dyes. This training program aims to empower members of the Bawi DayakAssociation with the knowledge and skills needed to proficiently apply the technique of steaming natural dyes to silk fabric in ecoprint batik. This service aims to increase partners' knowledge and skills regarding making ecoprints using the steaming technique, 1) providing information to mothers about steaming techniques to make colors and motifs, and 2) training mothers in making ecoprints using the steaming technique. The socialization stage is carried out through socializing the eco-printing steaming technique as an environmentally friendly product and introducing materials for eco-printing production. Ecoprinting training using the steaming technique includes the following stages: wetting (wetting the silk fabric), attaching sheets of natural flora leaves to the silk fabric, steaming and fixing. This will improve the skills of our partners who make natural dyeing ecoprints with the steaming technique and provide them with better income

Abstract

This study aims to identify vegetation species with potential as natural dyes and to describe the color direction, motif quality, and color fastness of ecoprint results using vegetation from the Habaring Hurung Forest Resort, Sebangau National Park. The research background is based on the biodiversity richness of peat swamp forests that has not been optimally utilized as a source of natural dyes in local wisdom-based creative industries. The ecoprint technique was selected for its eco-friendly nature and its ability to directly transfer the shape and natural color of leaves onto fabric. This research used a qualitative exploratory approach through field observation, interviews, documentation, and laboratory experiments. Vegetation sampling was conducted using a transect method covering an area of 0.4 hectares. The ecoprint process included mordanting, pounding, steaming, fixation, and color fastness testing. Color analysis referred to the Asianpaints color catalog, while motif quality was evaluated based on the visibility of leaf venation. The results identified 15 vegetation species with potential as natural dyes, including Tagula (Litsea sp.), Sepat (Macaranga trichocarpa), Mahang Kirik (Macaranga mauritia), and Kopi Himba (Coffea sp.). The dominant color directions produced were green, gray, and blue. The highest motif quality was found in Mahang Kirik, with clearly defined leaf veins, while the color fastness of most ecoprint fabrics remained stable after two washes. This indicates that the mordanting and fixation processes using iron mordant (tunjung) were effective in preserving color intensity. In conclusion, the peat forest vegetation in this area holds great potential as a source of natural dye for ecoprinting. These findings are expected to support the development of non-timber forest product (NTFP)–based crafts that promote forest conservation and empower surrounding communities.

Abstract

Abstract

It is possible to defeat the Covid-19 virus by boosting the body's defenses. Using family medicinal plants, which typically grow more naturally in yards and are widely used as food additives as well as for healing, disease prevention, improving immunity, and restoring freshness, which ultimately benefits public health, is one of the ways to boost immunity. The community still has a limited understanding of and reaction to the usage of therapeutic herbs. It is judged important to perform community service in relation to the administration of the family's medicinal plants after observing the response of a group of women in Talio Village who have family medicinal plants. The strategy employs community empowerment techniques, particularly for the target population through counseling and training.  In particular, the target group receives counseling and training while producing a healthy butterfly pea flower drink for ten women and cadres in Talio Village as part of the approach method's utilization of community empowerment techniques. The outcomes of this activity demonstrate that mothers and health professionals in Talio Village now have a more comprehensive understanding of how to prepare a healthy butterfly pea flower beverage as a consequence of counseling and training utilizing training materials. The answer score, where the mean post-test score is 86.20 and greater than the pre-test score of 72.3, serves as proof of this. Knowledge growth as a percentage grew by 14.17%. The outcomes of community service through counseling and education by offering instruction on how to make healthy butterfly pea flower beverages help boost moms' and staff members' understanding of how to strengthen the immune system of the family. PKK Desa is advised to organize a small group of traditional herbal medicine firms and host a village-wide competition for family medicinal plants.
