Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Farmers incur losses when they grow tomatoes, chili, sweet corn, spinach, and shallots in the dry season because the prices are low. Growing them in the rainy season is very risky, as these vegetables are sensitive to waterlogged soil. In addition, the skills and abilities of the farmers in the village of Lendang Nangka Utara, Masbagik District, East Lombok, in cultivating off-season vegetables, are still limited. Therefore, training and mentoring are carried out, with the main goal of improving the knowledge and skills of farmers in cultivating off-season vegetables to achieve higher selling prices. After participating in training sessions and direct on-site support, the knowledge and skills of farmers in vegetable cultivation have increasingly improved, as evidenced by the fact that the previously low participation and enthusiasm have increased. The intensive application of some agronomic measures, such as improving soil aeration, using plastic mulch, applying 20–25 tons he-1 of organic fertilizer, and 50–250 kg he-1 NPK Ponska, provides higher yields in Pak Choi, tomatoes, chili, and shallots compared to planting without organic fertilizer, plastic mulch, and soil aeration improvement. The application of organic fertilizer at a dose of 15–25 tons he-1 can replace the role of NPK Ponska fertilizer by 25% to 50% of the dose of 300 kg he-1. The income and profit that farmers earn from growing pak choi, tomatoes, chili, and shallots are higher than those from growing spinach, long beans, and sweet corn.

Abstract

The Bukit Cahaya area in Rangsot Hamlet, Sigar Penjalin Village, North Lombok, is managed by KSM Cahaya and has the potential to become an edu-ecotourism area based on natural sustainability. One of the development initiatives is the cultivation of edible flowers (rosella and butterfly pea), which require water-efficient irrigation in the form of drip irrigation, given the water scarcity in the region. However, the knowledge and skills of the management and members of KSM Rangsot in installing and maintaining drip irrigation systems are still inadequate. This community service activity aimed to improve the partners' knowledge and skills in operating and maintaining drip irrigation for butterfly pea and rosella cultivation. The methods used are educational (extension and direct demonstration) and participatory (active involvement of partners in all activities). The results show that this activity successfully improved participants' knowledge and skills regarding drip irrigation techniques through direct knowledge transfer and active involvement, while also opening opportunities for applying similar technology to other commodities in the future. The extension and training activities conducted have proven effective in enhancing the capabilities of KSM Rangsot. Suggestions for future activities include the need for periodic mentoring to ensure consistency in technology application, as well as the addition of drip irrigation application materials for other potential commodities in the Bukit Cahaya area, so that the benefits of the activities are broader and more sustainable.

Abstract

Fruit fly infestation (Bactrocera spp.) is one of the biggest problems in Kristal guava cultivation, as it can reduce fruit quality and yield. The aim of this study was to determine the infestation severity of Kristal guava plants in the Gerung district of West Lombok. The survey was conducted in April - May 2026 using an indirect observation method. Fruit flies were captured in yellow, red, green, blue, and white sticky traps placed on 20 experimental plants in four observation blocks. The fruit fly population and the degree of fruit damage were monitored for five weeks. Infestation severity data were analyzed using a scoring system based on the extent of fruit damage. The results showed that the highest number of fruit fly catches was recorded in the first week (525 individuals), while the lowest number was recorded in the fourth week (208 individuals). The infestation severity ranged from 25.86% to 42.79% and was classified as moderate. The high intensity of the attacks in the field correlated positively with the fruit fly population on crystal guavas.
