Abstract

Student learning outcomes in Indonesian language subjects remain suboptimal in rural elementary schools, necessitating pedagogical innovations that leverage locally available resources. This study examined the effectiveness of implementing a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by environmental resources in improving Indonesian language learning outcomes among fifth-grade students. This classroom action research employed the Kemmis and McTaggart spiral model across two cycles at SDN 3 Sirenja, involving nine fifth-grade students. Data were collected through structured observation protocols documenting teacher and student activities, field notes, and criterion-referenced achievement tests. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to determine individual absorption rates and classical learning mastery, while qualitative data underwent thematic analysis following Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña's framework. Classical learning completeness increased dramatically from 11.11% at baseline to 88.88% in Cycle II, exceeding the institutional standard of 80%. Classical absorption rates improved from 32.22% to 80%, while teacher activity increased from 80.64% to 87.17% and student activity rose from 71.42% to 87.90%, indicating transformed classroom dynamics. The findings demonstrate that environment-assisted PBL significantly enhances Indonesian language learning in rural contexts by transforming passive instruction into active, student-centered learning. This approach offers a sustainable pedagogical model for resource-constrained schools, leveraging local environmental resources rather than requiring expensive materials or technology infrastructure.

Abstract

The decline in student discipline in elementary schools, exacerbated by globalization and technological advancement, necessitates effective classroom management strategies that foster intrinsic behavioral regulation rather than external compliance. This study examined classroom management strategies employed by fourth-grade teachers at SDN Bambalemo to cultivate student discipline and identified factors influencing their implementation. A qualitative descriptive design was employed, with data collected through systematic observations, in-depth interviews with four teachers (coded A1-A4), and documentation analysis. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model, incorporating triangulation to ensure validity. Three primary strategies emerged: creating positive learning climates through warm teacher-student relationships and consistent modeling; organizing adaptive learning spaces that promote cooperation and ownership; and managing interactive teaching-learning processes through two-way communication and constructive feedback. Internal factors—including teacher personality, professional awareness, motivation, and growth mindset—and external factors—encompassing family support, school regulations, and community environments—significantly influenced strategy effectiveness. An unexpected finding revealed students spontaneously maintained classroom tidiness, indicating internalized responsibility. Student discipline develops through ecological processes involving habituation, role modeling, and multi-stakeholder collaboration rather than authoritarian control. The findings challenge punitive approaches while supporting relationship-based pedagogies that foster self-regulation, providing empirical foundations for character-based classroom management in elementary education.

Abstract

This study examined the role of Torata Dance-based learning in fostering character education among elementary school students at SD Negeri Tondo, Palu, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. The study was motivated by the persistent gap in empirical research on how specific local traditional dances function as systematic pedagogical instruments for character formation. A qualitative descriptive design was employed, involving 29 third-grade students and one arts teacher as participants. Data were collected through structured observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles et al.'s interactive model. Findings reveal that Torata Dance instruction, delivered through culturally mediated sequential stages, cultivated five core character values — religiosity, discipline, responsibility, love for the homeland, and social care — through embodied practice and teacher-guided cultural explanation. A particularly notable finding is that value internalization was not a spontaneous outcome of dance participation but was systematically shaped by the teacher's pedagogical intentionality and capacity to integrate cultural meanings into instructional sequences. These results affirm that local cultural dance, when pedagogically mediated, constitutes an effective and contextually relevant vehicle for holistic character education, contributing empirical evidence to discussions on culturally responsive pedagogy and arts-based moral formation in elementary schooling.

Abstract

The independent curriculum was present because of the Covid-19 pandemic at the end of December 2019, becoming one of the points where the continuity of education, especially in Indonesia, experienced changes. The learning crisis that occurred accompanied by the emergency conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic had a major impact on changes in education in Indonesia. Based on the results of observations conducted by researchers at SDN Inti No. 2 Pewunu, teachers are able to apply indicators in implementing the independent curriculum. These teachers have been able to implement the independent curriculum in accordance with the guidelines contained in the independent curriculum book and are implemented comprehensively. There are several steps in the independent curriculum learning model, especially in Arts and Crafts subjects, including apperception activities, modeling, constructivism, inquiry, learning communities, assessment, asking questions and reflection. For example, activities such as asking students to create works in Arts and Crafts learning are carried out by working together in groups, which can hone students to be able to work together and think critically. This study shows that implementing the independent curriculum in elementary school, especially in Arts and Crafts, helps improve students' teamwork and critical thinking. The use of constructivist activities, inquiry models, and reflection makes students more engaged in learning. Additionally, group-based tasks and assessments improve their understanding and encourage creativity. This approach provides teachers with the opportunity to adapt their methods to better meet students' needs in the post-pandemic education era.

The method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The subjects of the research consist of the Grade IV teacher and Grade IV students as supporting subjects to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in the implementation of the Pancasila Student Profile. The results of the study indicate that the application of the values of the dimensions within the Pancasila Student Profile in the Cultural Arts and Crafts Education subject has been effectively implemented. During the learning process, the teacher applied the six dimensions of the Pancasila Student Profile, which are Faith and Devotion to God Almighty, Global Diversity, Mutual Cooperation, Independence, Critical Reasoning, and Creativity. Religious values and manners are evident in the students' habits of praying and showing respect. In the dimension of global diversity, the teacher created an open classroom atmosphere conducive to discussion. Group activities demonstrated cooperation, while the dimension of independence was observed when students completed individual tasks. The challenges faced included limited learning resources and reading abilities. The teacher employed methods that encouraged active student participation and aimed to develop students' character comprehensively. The SBdP learning can serve as an effective medium for instilling the values of the Pancasila Student Profile if implemented consistently with support from all parties.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of students’ creativity in visual arts learning, particularly in understanding the principle of rhythm, which is still abstract and difficult for elementary school students to apply. The purpose of this study was to enhance fifth-grade students' creativity through concrete media in visual arts instruction, focusing on rhythm. This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach conducted in two cycles, involving 22 fifth-grade students at SDN Biro, Palu City. Data were collected through observation and documentation, and analysed using descriptive quantitative techniques expressed in percentages. The results showed that students’ creativity improved from Cycle I to Cycle II, with the mastery percentage increasing from 68.18% in Cycle I to 86.36% In Cycle II. This improvement was reflected in students’ ability to develop ideas, create variations In form, demonstrate originality, and complete their drawings carefully. The findings indicate that the use of concrete media helps students understand the principle of rhythm through direct experiences of observing, trying, and organising visual patterns, encouraging active engagement and the gradual development of creativity. Therefore, concrete media is effective in elementary visual arts learning for enhancing students’ creativity in understanding the principle of rhythm.
