Abstract

Abstract

Adolescents confront boundaries in obtaining contraception counting prohibitive policies and adolescents possess failure to obtain contraceptives since of information, transportation, and monetary limitations. The objective of this study is to assign the variables which impact on the use of contraception for the first sexual intercourse among unmarried adolescents. Quantitative research employing cross sectional analysis was implemented in this study, by processing 2017 Indonesian Health Demographic Survey (IDHS) data. Cox regression was utilized to examine the association between sociodemographic, peer and social influences, contraceptive knowledge and contraceptive use. The study populace encompassed 705 single young people; 15 to 24 years old. The study resulted that contraceptive use at the primary sexual intercourse by single young people in Indonesia was approximately 50.35%. After bivariate analysis was applied, it was revealed that there is a significant relationship between education with the contraceptive use at the first sexual intercourse among unmarried adolescents in Indonesia (p-value = 0.049). In the final model, we discovered that the level of education and contraceptive use was statistically significant, and the contraceptive use was higher in adolescents with high education than adolescents with middle and primary education (PR 1.51, 95% CI 1.09 – 2.07, p = 0.012). Therefore, this finding provides information that education is a prominent variable for understanding contraceptive use in adolescents.

Abstract

As women age, hormonal changes become increasingly common and can significantly impact their overall health and well-being. In elderly women, these changes can lead to a range of physical and emotional symptoms that can greatly affect their quality of life. To further understand the health problems that arise from these hormonal changes, this study focused on menopause and andropause. The research methodology used in this study was a literature review. A total of 14 articles from PubMed, ScienceDirect, and PLOS One were reviewed, while established inclusion and exclusion criteria were taken into consideration. The findings suggest that a majority of postmenopausal women experience side effects from hormonal changes, including both physical and mental ailments. Menopause can also lead to sexual dysfunction, as well as an increased risk of osteoporosis, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, mental disorders, and chronic kidney disease. These changes can significantly impact an elderly individual's quality of life.

Abstract

Central obesity has become a health problem and is associated with the incidence of prediabetes. Prediabetes is characterized by impaired fasting blood glucose (GDPT) or impaired glucose tolerance (TGT) or both without any complaints and symptoms, and is a condition that precedes the occurrence of type 2 diabetes mellitus. This study aims to prove central obesity as a risk factor for prediabetes by calculating the prevalence ratio. The method of this research is observational analysis with a cross-sectional design approach. The respondents of the study were the community around the work area of the Jati Ranggon health center who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, totaling 1241 people, 523 men and 718 women. The prevalence of central obesity in this study was 39.6%. The prevalence of prediabetes is 18.8%, prediabetes with central obesity is 27.9% and non-central obesity prediabetes is 12.8%. Bivariate analysis with chi-square showed a relationship between age and the incidence of prediabetes (RP=1.62, 95% CI 1.24-2.11 and p= <0.001), hypertension with the incidence of prediabetes (RP=1.58CI 95% 1.22-2.04, p=<0.001), gender with prediabetes (RP=1.47, 95% CI 1.12-1.94, and p=0.005), general obesity with prediabetes (RP=1.87, 95% CI 1.44-2.42 and p=<0.001), smoking with the incidence of prediabetes (RP= 0.54, 95% CI 0.33-0.88 and p=0.013). The results of multivariate analysis with cox regretion showed that the variables that affected prediabetes were central obesity (RP=1.87, CI95% 1.40-2.50, p=<0.001) and general obesity (RP=1.42, CI95% 1.06-1.89, p=0.017). Central obesity is a risk factor for prediabetes with a prevalence ratio of 2.18.

Abstract

The development of energy-efficient, mobile dryers using biomass fuel remains a challenge, particularly for rural agricultural applications. This study experimentally evaluates the energy performance of a mobile drying furnace fueled by sawdust, focusing on the effects of fuel feeder rotational speed (25, 30, and 35 rpm). Key performance metrics include temperature distribution, fuel consumption rate, thermal efficiency, and energy balance. The furnace is equipped with a screw conveyor, combustion chamber, and heat exchanger, with temperature monitored via IR thermometers. The highest thermal efficiency of 37.64% was achieved at 25 rpm, with a fuel consumption rate of 4.25 kg/h and total energy output of 110,144 kJ. At 35 rpm, energy output peaked at 188,369.12 kJ, but efficiency declined to 22.41% due to incomplete combustion. All settings-maintained outlet air temperatures between 43.08–46.08°C, suitable for grain drying. Energy balance analysis revealed that 80.92% of total input energy was transferred to the drying chamber at 35 rpm. These findings suggest that moderate feeding speeds (25–30 rpm) offer the best trade-off between efficiency and energy delivery, confirming the potential of mobile, sawdust-fueled systems for sustainable drying in off-grid settings.

Abstract

The study investigates the relationship between obesity and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk, comparing the use of body mass index (BMI) versus other biomarkers in predicting CVD risk among obese individuals. It conducts a systematic literature review following the PRISMA guidelines, searching databases for relevant articles published from 2017-2022. The review analyzes 12 eligible articles and finds that factors beyond just BMI, such as genetics, physical activity, metabolic disorders, previous heart disease history, nutrition, fat distribution, and changes in BMI, can significantly impact the prognosis of heart disease in obese individuals. Importantly, the study shows that measures of fat distribution, like waist-to-height ratio, waist circumference, log-transformed body shape index (LBSIZ), and the ratio of visceral adipose tissue (VAT) to subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT), are superior to BMI in predicting CVD risk among those with obesity. The key takeaway is that while obesity is strongly linked to CVD risk, BMI alone often fails to predict that risk accurately. Fat distribution measures may be a more effective tool for identifying obesity status and predicting associated CVD risk compared to relying solely on BMI.

Abstract

non-diabetes mellitus population. However, it’s effect on PTB in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patient is unclear. The study aims to determine the association between obesity and PTB in patient with T2DM. A cross sectional study was held in in-patient, The Department of Internal Medi cine, Fatmawati General Hospital from January 2015 to December 2017. This study includes patient with T2DM who had been diagnosed with PTB and age > 18 years old. In this study negative Acid-fast-bacilli (AFB) founding defined as patient’s sputum is negative by smear microscopy, while obesity define as body mass index > 24.9 kg/m2. From 363 PTB patient with T2DM, 22.59% were obese. Results showed that prevalence of negative AFB founding in PTB patients with T2DM was 81.82% and it was solely associated with obesity (p:0.002, OR=6.36, 95%CI 1.9-21). Obese patients were likely to have negative AFB founding. It suggested that diagnosing PTB in patient with T2DM and obese can’t be solely based on bacteriological confirmation.
