Abstract

Non-profit foundations are required to implement transparent and accountable administrative and financial governance to strengthen stakeholder trust and organizational sustainability. However, Yayasan Ukhuwah Insaniyah in Malang City faced several challenges, including manual administrative procedures, unstructured document archiving, and non-standardized financial recording practices. This community service program aimed to strengthen administrative and financial governance by improving the management capacity of the foundation to enhance organizational accountability. The program used a participatory approach through observation, focus group discussions, training, mentoring, and learning-by-doing activities. The implementation involved four stages: preparation, mentoring, implementation, and evaluation with sustainability planning. The results showed improvements in administrative management through standardized incoming and outgoing mail procedures, systematic document archiving, standardized financial recording formats, and enhanced financial reporting practices. Furthermore, the program increased management awareness of transparency, accountability, and good governance principles. The participatory mentoring approach encouraged collaboration, strengthened institutional capacity, and supported sustainable organizational transformation. These findings indicate that combining capacity building with administrative and financial governance improvement is an effective strategy for enhancing accountability, service quality, and public trust in non-profit foundation management.

Abstract

The development of sustainable tourism villages requires the implementation of management practices that enhance environmental performance through environmentally oriented leadership, community participation, and stakeholder engagement in achieving sustainability goals. This study aims to examine the influence of green leadership and community involvement on green performance, with employee engagement serving as a mediating variable among the stakeholders and managers of Punten Tourism Village, Batu City. A quantitative approach with an explanatory research design was employed. The study involved all stakeholders and managers of Punten Tourism Village using a saturated sampling technique. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4 software. The findings reveal that green leadership and community involvement have positive and significant effects on green performance. Both variables also significantly enhance employee engagement, which, in turn, positively and significantly influences green performance. Furthermore, employee engagement partially mediates the relationships between green leadership and green performance, as well as between community involvement and green performance. These findings suggest that improving the environmental performance of tourism villages requires the integration of green leadership, active community involvement, and stronger stakeholder engagement to support the implementation of sustainable tourism practices.

Abstract

Objective: To develop a conceptual framework that integrates negative politeness strategies (Brown & Levinson, 1987) with their linguistic realization (House & Kasper, 1981) in the context of thesis supervision negotiations via WhatsApp. It further examines how power, social distance, and the degree of imposition shape the selection of politeness strategies and their linguistic markers across episodes of digital academic negotiation. Method: Employing a qualitative approach, this study adopts a sociopragmatic corpus-based design using a small specialized corpus comprising 37 speech events extracted from WhatsApp interactions between undergraduate students and their thesis supervisors. The data were analyzed through a multi-layered analytical framework linking sociopragmatic variables, negative politeness strategies, and their corresponding linguistic mitigation devices. Results: Students consistently constructed request sequences using a multi-stage discourse structure consisting of greetings, apologies, the core request, and expressions of gratitude. Their requests were predominantly realized through indirect strategies (87.9%), accompanied by politeness markers such as respectful emojis (89.2%) and expressions of gratitude (86.5%). In contrast, supervisors typically responded briefly and asymmetrically, with only 29.7% of responses explicitly granting the request, reflecting an asymmetric distribution of politeness marking associated with institutional power relations. Novelty: To contribute by integrating negative politeness strategies and their linguistic realizations into a unified multi-layered analytical framework, rather than treating them as separate objects of investigation as in previous studies. It also extends the taxonomy of politeness markers by incorporating multimodal digital resources, particularly emojis, as integral components of negative politeness strategies in digital academic communication. By clarifying how respectful and equitable communication is co-constructed between students and supervisors, this study also contributes to efforts toward Quality Education (SDG 4), particularly in strengthening inclusive and supportive pedagogical relationships in higher education.

Abstract

Objective: To examine the forms, directness strategies, pedagogical functions, and sociopragmatic motivations of teachers' directive utterances in Indonesian language learning at Muhammadiyah Islamic Junior Secondary Schools1, Malang City. Method: A qualitative case-study design is proposed, combining non-participant observation, audio-video recording, field notes, and teaching-document analysis. Directive units are interpreted through an integrated coding matrix covering linguistic form, degree of directness, pragmatic modifiers, lesson phase, and pedagogical uptake. Descriptive frequencies are used only to display the qualitative patterning of the corpus. Results: The provisional analytical model indicates that commands and instructions constitute the largest category (31.18%), followed by question-directives (23.66%) and requests (16.13%). Direct strategies account for 55.91% of the modeled corpus, yet their interpersonal force is frequently softened by markers such as silakan, coba, mari, vocatives, and the particle ya. Procedural organization, participation elicitation, and cognitive scaffolding emerge as the dominant pedagogical functions. Novelty: Rather than treating directives as isolated sentence types, this study connects form, social relations, pedagogical purpose, and student uptake in a single sociopragmatic-pedagogical framework. The analysis demonstrates how teacher authority can be enacted without eliminating solidarity, dialogic participation, or value-sensitive communication in an Islamic junior secondary school.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract: This article discusses the distinctive characteristics of Japan's educational curriculum, recognized as one of the most successful education systems in the world. Japan implements a well-structured curriculum through the 6-3-3 education model and the Gakushuu Shidou Youryou national standards, ensuring equitable quality nationwide. The core strength of Japan’s curriculum lies in its holistic Chi-Toku-Tai approach, which balances academic knowledge (Chi), moral character development (Toku), and physical health (Tai). Furthermore, the integrated curriculum approach and project-based learning methods foster student independence, creativity, and essential 21st-century skills. Teacher professionalism is continuously enhanced through collaborative and reflective Lesson Study practices. The success of this system is also supported by the active involvement of families and communities in character education. Despite its achievements, Japan’s education system faces challenges, particularly high academic pressure that may affect students' mental well-being. This study aims to provide valuable insights for other countries, including Indonesia, in designing holistic curriculum policies that balance academic excellence, character formation, and students’ psychological welfare. Keyword: Japanese curriculum, Chi-Toku-Tai, holistic approach, Lesson Study, character education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of perceived stress on workload, mediated by employee self-efficacy, within a forestry company. A quantitative approach with a causal research design was employed. The sample consisted of 148 Forest Management Technical Personnel (GANISPH) from PT Arara Abadi. Data were collected using Likert-scale questionnaires and analyzed via the Partial Least Squares (PLS) method using WarpPLS 8.0. The results indicate that perceived stress has a positive and significant effect on workload (β=0.26; p<0.01), whereas it has a negative and significant effect on self-efficacy (β=-0.18; p<0.01). Self-efficacy was found to have a negative and significant effect on workload (β=-0.27; p<0.01). Furthermore, self-efficacy was shown to partially mediate the effect of perceived stress on workload. These findings suggest that increased perceived stress can heighten the perception of workload, while self-efficacy acts as a personal resource that helps employees manage job demands. This study reinforces the perspectives of the Job Demands-Resources Model and Social Cognitive Theory in explaining the relationships between stress, self-efficacy, and workload within the forestry sector. Abstract

Objective: To examine how university students from diverse ethnic backgrounds negotiate face and moral expectations through politeness responses in WhatsApp and related campus interactions, and what these practices imply for inclusive education in support of SDG 4. Method: A qualitative descriptive design with sociopragmatic discourse analysis was applied to 107 interaction excerpts from students at universities in Malang, covering WhatsApp chats and face-to-face talk among peers, between students and lecturers, and between juniors and senior organisation members. Speech acts, politeness strategies, and moral evaluations were coded. Results: Politeness responses varied with the relationship between interlocutors. Peers relied on positive politeness, humour, and regional address terms to build solidarity, whereas students writing to lecturers combined religious greetings, self-identification, regional deference markers such as Tabe, and apologies for imposing. Face threats were mitigated through explanations, circumstance-based refusals, and repair. These choices reflected moral evaluations of respect, reluctance to impose, solidarity, inclusiveness, and conditional honesty. Novelty: The study integrates face and moral order in one analytic frame for Indonesian cross-cultural digital and campus talk and links pragmatic competence to SDG 4 (targets 4.7 and 4.a), with supporting relevance for SDG 10 and SDG 16.
