Abstract

This case study aims to analyze the role of the reading corner in shaping the character of love for books and responsibility among Kindergarten B children at a PAUD institution in Alalak District. The reading corner, equipped with illustrated storybooks, serves as the main medium in this process. Observations and interviews revealed that the presence of an attractive reading corner, supported by the teacher's initiative in reading books both directly and through digital media (LCD), successfully fosters children's interest in reading. Although they are not yet able to read text, the children begin to “read pictures” and retell the story using their own language—even some confidently read stories aloud to their peers. This indicates the development of a love for books. A sense of responsibility is also nurtured through the habit of independently or collaboratively returning and organizing books in the reading corner. This study highlights the importance of a supportive literacy environment and the active role of teachers in instilling character values from an early age.

Abstract

Primary dysmenorrhea is a common complaint among adolescent girls, affecting daily activities. Herbal medicine has been widely used as an alternative treatment. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of herbal medicine and mefenamic acid in reducing primary dysmenorrhea pain among 460 high school students in South Sumatra. Pain levels were measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) at specific time intervals. Results indicate that herbal medicine has comparable effectiveness to mefenamic acid in reducing pain at the 60th minute. While the mefenamic acid group was given 500 mg of mefenamic acid. The degree of pain was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before treatment, at 14, 30, 45, and 60 minutes after treatment. Results: The significance value of the pain level of both groups at 60 minutes (0.244) > α 0.05 (error level 5%). This shows that there is no significant difference between the differences in the mean pain level given herbal medicine and mefenamic acid at 60 minutes. So it is concluded that herbal medicine is able to reduce the level of pain the same as mefenamic acid at 60 minutes. This also means that herbal medicine can be used as a therapy for primary dysmenorrhea as well as the use of mefenamic acid at 60 minutes. Herbal medicine can be used as a therapy for primary dysmenorrhea in adolescents. This study provides initial evidence that herbs and chemical drugs actually have the same efficacy if given in the appropriate amount.

Abstract

In order to reduce infant morbidity and mortality, according to the United Nations Childrens Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO), it is recommended that infants be fed only breast milk for six months, known as exclusive breastfeeding. Exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia has not been fully successful. Based on the 2016 Indonesian Health Profile, the percentage coverage of exclusive breastfeeding for infants aged 0-6 months was only 54.0%. In North Sumatra Province, exclusive breastfeeding is considered to be lacking. Factors that are thought to influence include maternal age, education level, knowledge level and occupation. So, an observational analytic study was conducted which aimed to see the relationship between the level of maternal knowledge and exclusive breastfeeding. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between maternal knowledge level and maternal education level with exclusive breastfeeding for infants.
