Abstract

Abstract

The Precision Village Data (PVD) methodology has emerged as an innovative approach to addressing challenges in rural development by integrating census-based, spatial, and participatory data collection techniques. This study investigates the implementation of the PVD methodology in Denai Sarang Burung Village, Indonesia, to assess its effectiveness in improving governance, community welfare, and sustainable development planning. A mixed-methods approach combined quantitative data collection through surveys and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping with qualitative insights from focus group discussions and key informant interviews. The findings reveal that the PVD methodology significantly enhanced data accuracy facilitated evidence-based decision-making, and promoted transparency in resource allocation. Community participation was a critical success factor, fostering trust and ownership among stakeholders. However, challenges such as limited digital infrastructure and capacity gaps among enumerators highlighted the need for further investments and training. The study concludes that the PVD methodology offers a robust framework for sustainable rural development and a scalable model for similar contexts globally. Future research should explore its application in diverse settings to evaluate long-term impacts and adaptability

Abstract

The agricultural sector is one of the businesses with high risks and uncertainties. Sources of risk and uncertainty, among others, come from the natural environment, especially climate change, floods, droughts and explosions of plant pest organisms.  To overcome the losses of farmers, especially rice farming from the risk of crop failure, the government helps to protect farming businesses in the form of Rice Farming Insurance. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence farmers' decision to participate in rice farming insurance in Deli Serdang regency. The number of samples in this study was 100 samples with purposive sampling technique method. Factors influencing farmers' decision to participate in the rice farming insurance were analyzed using binary logistic regression. The results showed that the farmer's decision to participate in rice farming insurance can be explained by the variables of farmer education, income, number of family dependents, land area, farming experience, intensity of the risk of crop failure, insurance procedures and getting government assistance by 86.8% while the remaining 13.2% is explained by variables outside the model. Internal factors that influence farmers' decisions to participate in the rice farming insurance include land area and farming experience. External factors that influence farmers' decisions to participate in the rice farming insurance include the intenistas of the risk of crop failure, following the insurance program

Abstract

This research focuses on Research and Community Service (PPKM) activities carried out through the collaboration of IAKN Tarutung and USU in the field of agriculture in Sampuran Village, Muara District, North Tapanuli Regency. The primary issue addressed is farmers' complaints about reduced crop productivity caused by plant pests. The main commodities cultivated by the farming community include mango, cacao, avocado, and several types of young plants. The research method used is a qualitative approach with a case study type. The evaluation of the program's impact on farmers' empowerment was conducted using measurable indicators, including the percentage reduction in pest-related damage, changes in crop yields, and the number of farmers adopting pest control techniques introduced during the program. The results show that the Community Service collaboration between IAKN Tarutung and USU contributed significantly to addressing farmers' complaints regarding plant pests. The service was carried out by involving the farming community, facilitated by Sampuran Village officials. Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with five farmer groups were conducted to identify and address plant pest problems effectively. The program's sustainability strategy includes ongoing training sessions, the establishment of farmer self-help groups, and periodic monitoring facilitated by local agricultural extension officers.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the leading global producers of mangosteen, with China absorbing over 70% of its export volume. Despite this, Indonesia’s market share remains limited compared to its competitors, such as Thailand. This study examines the short- and long-term relationships between key macroeconomic variables—mangosteen export price (HEC), export value (NE), Yuan to USD exchange rate (NTC), Rupiah to USD exchange rate (NTI), Indonesia’s real exchange rate (NTR), and export volume (VE)—and the performance of exports to China using the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM), which is appropriate for examining both long-run equilibrium (cointegration) and short-run dynamics among the macroeconomic variables. The model captures cointegration, causal interactions, impulse responses, and variance decomposition. Findings indicate that, in the long run, NTC, NTI, NTR, and VE have a significant influence on export prices, while no statistically significant short-run causality is observed. Key risks identified include exchange rate volatility, over-reliance on the Chinese market, price fluctuations, high logistics costs, and inconsistent product quality. To mitigate these issues, the study recommends exchange rate stabilization, export market diversification, investment in cold chain logistics, and the adoption of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) with digital traceability systems. The findings support the formulation of evidence-based policies to strengthen the global competitiveness of Indonesia’s horticultural exports.

Abstract

This study evaluates the demand elasticity of animal protein in North Sumatra Province, focusing on the relationship between price, income, and consumption patterns across four major commodities: beef, chicken, fish, and eggs. North Sumatra was purposively selected due to its status as the most populous province in Sumatra and its significant contribution to regional protein demand. The study utilizes secondary time-series data from Q1 2014 to Q4 2024, obtained from official government sources. The Linear Approximation Almost Ideal Demand System (LA/AIDS) model is applied to estimate price elasticity, income elasticity, and substitution-complementarity relationships among commodities. The results indicate that beef and chicken are price-elastic, while fish and eggs are price-inelastic. The strongest substitution effect is observed between beef and chicken. In terms of income elasticity, beef and chicken are considered luxury goods, whereas fish and eggs are classified as normal goods. These findings highlight segmented consumption patterns driven by purchasing power disparities. The study’s novelty lies in its long-term elasticity mapping of animal protein demand in a densely populated, non-Java province. Policy recommendations include price stabilization for beef and chicken, and targeted food assistance or subsidies for low-to-middle-income households to improve equitable access to quality protein. The findings enrich social science and humanities literature, particularly in food economics, public policy, and region-based food security studies.
