Abstract

Urban fisherman have low to medium economic income. Limited income for fisherman becomes an economic burden. Fisherman consume cigarettes to the point of addiction, and thus do not prioritize family needs. The research objective was to analyze the economic burden of urban fisherman and compare the economic burden between smoker and non-smoker fisherman. The respondents were 50 smoker fisherman and 50 non-smoker fisherman in Medan Belawan. The research method uses the t test to see the difference in the economic burden of smoker and non-smoker fisherman. The results showed 76% of smoking fisherman believed that smoking was harmful to health. There is a significant difference between the economic burden between smoking and nonsmoking . The economic expense for a smoker is 42.8% or IDR846,400 of your monthly income. However, only 8% of fisherman have health complaints due to smoking. Smokers' priority places cigarettes in second place after basic needs. It is recommended that the government not stop providing knowledge about the evils of smoking to fisherman and stop the entry of cigarettes in fishing areas so it can reduce the economic burden on low-income people.

Abstract

The vast territory of Indonesia makes Indonesia rich in various foods. However, the irony is that the distribution of staple foods such as rice does not fully reach remote areas in Indonesia. This resulted in rice prices soaring and difficult to obtain. People don't care and try to switch to rice substitute foods such as bread, noodles, corn and other foods. This study aims to determine what factors influence the change in food habits from rice to non-rice. The research was conducted in Tanjung Pasir Village, Sei Merah Village, Lubuk Kertang Village, which is in Pangkalan Susu District, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra. The research model used is a descriptive quantitative research model. The data analysis used was Stuctural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis assisted by AMOS 20.0 software. The data collection instrument used was a questionnaire instrument. The results of this study indicate that the factors of social access and public facilities influence changes in people's consumption patterns towards non-rice foods. The conclusion is that people in this area are experiencing diversification, changing consumption patterns to non-rice foods. The community prefers to look for food, especially for breakfast, to the stalls to look for non-rice foods such as bread, instant noodles, some corn and cassava. The reasons are: 1) The education factor can change people's food habits because it has an impact on the difficulty of getting a decent job, the quality of life is below standard, one of which is the difficulty to get rice; 2) The location of the market which is far away and difficult to access has resulted in soaring rice prices and this is one of the problems with public facilities; 3) The natural condition of the coast which lacks the availability of clean water and also poor sanitation makes it difficult for housewives to cook food at home.

Abstract

Indonesia, the world's largest archipelagic country, has abundant water and marine resources. Frozen shrimp is a leading commodity, with an export value reaching USD 1.53 billion or 37.72% in 2021. The United States is a significant market opportunity for importing countries, reinforced by the high demand for shrimp imports in the United States from various countries in the world, reaching around > 600 tons in 2022 and increasing by 4.75% every year. This research aims to analyze the factors that influence the market share of demand for shrimp from Indonesia in the United States market, as well as the relationship between competition for shrimp commodities from Indonesia, India, Ecuador, Mexico and Vietnam based on the elasticity value of demand in the United States market. The research uses purposive sampling and modern data analysis methods. Using the Almost Ideal Demand System (AIDS) econometric model and SAS software for data processing, focusing on the US market's five largest shrimp supply countries. The results of this research show that Indonesia has the potential to increase its market share because of its positive cross-elasticity with India, which indicates a mutually substitutive relationship. Factors that influence demand for imported Indonesian shrimp in America include the price of Ecuadorian shrimp, Mexican shrimp, and total value of Indonesian shrimp imports.

Abstract

The development of Indonesian cocoa bean exports before implementation of cocoa bean export duty policy showed that Indonesia was known as the third largest cocoa exporter in the world. However, on the one hand, the export volume of cocoa beans causes its domestic availability to fluctuate. This research aims to analyze the competitiveness of Indonesian cocoa beans, and analyze the factors that influence Indonesian cocoa bean exports in five main destination countries. The methods used in this research are Herfindahl Index (HI), Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), Export Product Dynamic (EPD), Trade Specialization (ISP) and Panel Data Regression. HI test results show an oligopoly market structure. RCA results are competitive (RCA > 1). EPD test results showed that Indonesian cocoa beans were in the Retreat position in USA, Singapore, India and Belgium except for Malaysia which was in the Lost Opportunity. The ISP results for Indonesian cocoa beans in Singapore, India and Belgium are at the maturity stage, while Malaysia and USA are at the growth stage. The research results show that export price of cocoa beans, the exchange rate, has a positive, while GDP per Capita has a negative and significant effect on the decline in the volume of Indonesian cocoa bean exports.
