Abstract

In the last ten years, the performance of Indonesia’s tea agribusiness has been decreased. It is shown by the decreasing of tea estate area by 2.18 percent per year, tea production decreased by 0.8 percent and export volume decreased by 1.07 percent per year. The Porter’s Diamond System analysis shows that the competitiveness of Indonesia’s tea agribusiness is still weak. The main component of Indonesia’s tea that supports each other are : 1) the resources factors with the domestic demand conditions, and also 2) the resources factors with the related and supporting industries. While in the supporting component, the government component only supports the resources factors component, and it’s clearly different with the chance component that supports all the main components. Finally, tea agribusiness development strategies in Indonesia was analyzed by using SWOT and Architecture Strategy, which were more directed to increase the performance of smallholders tea plantation by strengthening the role of farmer group and optimalizing the role of association. In the other hand, the strategies for government and private tea estate are more directed to increase the volume of production and product diversification which are important for improving the export oriented tea products. Other strategies that can be implied are 1) increasing the promotional activity and 2) spreading information about tea and its benefits to increase domestic tea consumption.

Abstract

Bogor is capable of producing 16 208 tons of coconuts a year, and a big amount of coconut shells. This kind of shells can be a very valuable business commodity when processed into briquette. However the majority of Indonesian coconut farmers have only a little number of coconuts trees, so that the shell production is low and the farmers find it difficult to enter the briquette industry. Therefore, the coconut farmers need to join in the business based on cooperative approach to enter briquette industry. The coconut farmers who become members of the cooperative will get the guidance to process coconut shells into charcoal .The charcoal produced by farmers is used as raw material of making briquette. The market target of briquette will be Japan and the product will be sold at Rp11 829 per kilogram. This business gives financial benefit to the cooperative as the NPV is Rp5.1 milliards, gross B/C is 1.18, and payback period is 2 years 8 months. Nonfinancially, this business gives social benefit to the farmers who are members of the cooperative, because the cooperative buys the farmers’ charcoal in a good price, i.e. higher than the market price. Besides, those farmers will also get share profit from the cooperative.

Abstract

Cooperative is one of many institutions that support agribusiness sector in rural area. It has big role in agricultural sector because of Indonesia’s farming system characterized by small scale and scattered business. The purpose of this research is to analyze the level of institutional performance and member participations as well as to analyze strategies to improve the performance of Mandiri Jaya Cooperative. Data obtained from 30 respondents with purposive sampling method. This research analyzed by Development Ladder Assesment (DLA) and Rank Spearman Correlation Test. The result shows that the cooperative’s performance was in green zone which means this cooperative was in good condition. Rank Spearman Correlation Test shows that there is a straight line relationship between social economic benefit with the member participation level in the cooperative’s organizational, capital and business activity. Some policies can be applied to increase the role of the Mandiri Jaya Cooperative to become an institution which not only helps resolve member capital issues. Things that can be done such as providing education and basic understanding of cooperative identity, strengthening internal management conditions, and strengthening networks to create partnerships that can support cooperative’s performance.

Abstract

Abstract

Hydroponics is a method of cultivating plants without soil that is popular with Indonesian people. Its spread in Indonesia is supported by information openness via the internet and social media. Internet users reaching 77.2% have created a demand for hydroponic training. The urgency of training services is needed because hydroponic cultivation requires special skills. In the city of Bogor, there are business units that provide hydroponic training with limited face-to-face services which are very vulnerable to schedule limitations and social restriction policies by the government. The aim of this research is to formulate a strategy for developing a hydroponics training business in the city of Bogor. The approach uses qualitative methods with the Business Model Canvas framework to map digitalization adaptation and describe existing business models. Alternative strategies are formulated using SWOT analysis which combines internal strategic issues in the form of strengths and weaknesses with external strategic issues in the form of opportunities and threats. The formulated alternative strategy is implemented into the prototype canvas business model. Customer Response Index analysis is carried out to support SWOT analysis to obtain input based on responses from consumers. The research results found that digital adaptation was limited to business model marketing channels. Strength strategic issues lie in segmentation based on demand, service flexibility, and digital marketing adaptation. The weakness issue is dependence on one product and dependence on business partners. Strategic issues of opportunity are opportunities for product diversification, new partnerships, and conversion of training into digital products. The strategic threat issue is the opportunistic risk of business partners. The formulation of an alternative strategy recommends diversifying service products by adding services that are still in the hydroponics business line.
