Abstract

Factual conditions show that adopting coastal agricultural technology in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, has not met expectations. As the decision-makers of adoption, smallholder households are rational economic entities acting as producers and consumers who maximize utility and profit from their farm production. Specifically, this study is the first attempt to build an economic model of smallholder households that integrates technology adoption components in Indonesia. The model is also used to analyze the impact of input and output price policies on technology adoption, production, and labor allocation. This study uses primary data collected by survey method on 196 farmer respondents. Data were estimated using the two-stage least square (2SLS) method. The study findings reveal that higher farm output prices catalyze a series of beneficial agricultural outcomes, including expanding cultivated land, optimized input allocation, augmented production processes, and adopting innovative technologies. Fertilizer price subsidy policies have also proven practical policy tools to improve agricultural productivity.

Abstract

Abstract

Cocoa plantations in Central Sulawesi have experienced a decline in productivity due to many plants starting to age, pest and disease attacks, and minimal application of technology. Limited capital causes these problems to be challenging to solve, so the solution is to take credit loan capital. However, many farmers still need to be convinced to take credit. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the differences in cocoa farming income with and without credit and the factors influencing farmers' decisions to take credit. The data used is secondary data from the 2013 Agricultural Census: 2014 Plantation Household Survey. Descriptive analysis is used to describe the characteristics of cocoa farmers in Central Sulawesi. Quantitative analysis is used for farm income analysis, propensity score matching, and logistic regression. The research found that credit positively influenced the income of cocoa farmers in Central Sulawesi. However, it was insignificant because credit was not entirely used to finance productive farming. Factors influencing cocoa farmers' decision to take credit in Central Sulawesi are participation in extension services, cooperative membership, farmer group membership, farmer education level, and land area.

Abstract

Starting in 2019 and 2020, the government began to make it mandatory to implement halal and NKV certification. The guarantee of food safety for beef products is not only halal certificates but also a Veterinary Control Number (NKV). Responds from non-Muslim consumers on the purchase intention of meat products with halal and NKV certificates are supporting factors in convincing sellers or producers to carry out the certification process. Therefore, this study aims to identify and analyze the influence of several factors, such as awareness, the role of certification, health reasons, and the parts of the halal marketing mix (product, price, promotion, and place). This research was conducted on 124 non-Muslim respondents selected by purposive sampling. Data were collected online and analyzed using PLS (Partial Least Square). The results show that awareness, the role of certification, health reasons, and the halal marketing mix (product, price, promotion, and place) affect the purchase intention of non-Muslims towards beef. There needs to be a role from various parties regarding information about halal and hygienic products. For example, sellers can inform consumers that the products they sell have been confirmed halal and the cleanliness of their products if an outbreak infects livestock at a certain time. Each group of respondents has differences in terms of factors influencing purchasing interest due to beliefs and habits. Keywords: beef, halal certification, food safety, purchase intention

Abstract

Hydroponics is a method of cultivating plants without soil that is popular with Indonesian people. Its spread in Indonesia is supported by information openness via the internet and social media. Internet users reaching 77.2% have created a demand for hydroponic training. The urgency of training services is needed because hydroponic cultivation requires special skills. In the city of Bogor, there are business units that provide hydroponic training with limited face-to-face services which are very vulnerable to schedule limitations and social restriction policies by the government. The aim of this research is to formulate a strategy for developing a hydroponics training business in the city of Bogor. The approach uses qualitative methods with the Business Model Canvas framework to map digitalization adaptation and describe existing business models. Alternative strategies are formulated using SWOT analysis which combines internal strategic issues in the form of strengths and weaknesses with external strategic issues in the form of opportunities and threats. The formulated alternative strategy is implemented into the prototype canvas business model. Customer Response Index analysis is carried out to support SWOT analysis to obtain input based on responses from consumers. The research results found that digital adaptation was limited to business model marketing channels. Strength strategic issues lie in segmentation based on demand, service flexibility, and digital marketing adaptation. The weakness issue is dependence on one product and dependence on business partners. Strategic issues of opportunity are opportunities for product diversification, new partnerships, and conversion of training into digital products. The strategic threat issue is the opportunistic risk of business partners. The formulation of an alternative strategy recommends diversifying service products by adding services that are still in the hydroponics business line.
