Abstract

Ancylostoma sp. is a common parasite that infects cats and is a major cause of ankylostomyosis. Ancylostoma sp. enter the nematoda class. Cats can be infected through foods containing eggs or infective larvae. A persian mix local cat named Roger, about 7 years old, weighs 3.5 kg, has diarrhea 3 to 4 times a day with blackish brown feces. Based on the results of a physical examination, the cat has diarrhea with a reddish anal mucosa, swelling in the mandibulary lymphogland dexter, eye mucosa, pale nose and mouth and dehydrated cats. The laboratory tests carried out were faecal examination with floating method, McMaster and routine hematology. Roger's cat was diagnosed with mild degrees of ancylostomiosis. Therapy given is pyrantel pamoat with a recommended dose of 6 to 25 mg/kg and the dose given is 20 mg/kg (0.5 tab). Kaolin pectin with recommended doses of 1 to 2 mL/kg (4.5 mL/day). Hematodine with a recommended dose of 0.5 to 2 mL/kg (injected 0.05 mL) intramuscular. Livron Bplex 1 tablet orally once a day for 10 days. Evaluation of cat cases 3 weeks post therapy found that cat cases had no diarrhea, mucosa of the mouth, eyes, ears, vagina, pink sphincter, Capillary Refil Time (CRT) of less than 2 seconds and good skin turgor. Stool examination results with negative native methods were not found for worm egg infestations.

Abstract

Cryopreservation is an ultra rapid freezing process to preserve tissue or organ. The studywas conducted to identify the effectiveness of cryoloop vitrification method and the viability ofembryos following vitrification. Embryos at blastocyst stage were vitrified by placing them inequilibration medium containing 10% ethylene glycol (EG) and phosphate buffer saline (PBS) wichsupplemented with 20% new born calf serum for 8-10 minutes. The blastocysts were then removedand put in vitrification medium (15% dimethyl sulfoxide, 15% EG, and 0.5M sucrose), and theprocess in the vitrifivcation medium not longer than 25-30 seconds. The blastocysts were immediatelytransferred to the vitrification medium film in the cryoloop and plunged into 100 ml liquid nitrogen. The warming process was done by immersing the cryoloop which carried the vitrified blastocstsinto PBS supplemented with 20% serum and 0.5M sucrose for 1 minute, and then removed to samesolution supplemented with 0.25M sucrose and 0.1M sucrose for 2 minutes respectively. Theblastocysts were washed 4 times in kalium simplex optimized medium (KSOM) and cultured indrops of KSOM in 5% CO2 incubator at 370C. The observations were done every 6 hours for 48hours using inverted microscope ( Olympus IX70 Japan). The viability of embryos was assessed onthe basis of the intact morphology, reexpansion of the blastosul, and the development of embryosinto advance stage. The results showed that 85.71% of vitrified embryos, developed into advancestages and 19% of them hatched. In conclusion the cryoloop can be used to vitrify the embryos.

Abstract

A study was conducted to identify the risk factors of canine distemper in Denpasar, Bali. Risk factorsfor canine distemper were characterized using hospital records of private veterinary practitioners. Thisstudy showed that there was no difference in the susceptibility to canine distemper virus infection betweenmales and females. The occurrence of canine distemper disease is not significantly affected by the season. The risk of canine distemper disease for young dogs, between 0 and 1 year was 4.95-fold increase ascompared the risk of disease for dogs that were older than 1 year (Oods-Ratio: 4.95). Incomplete vaccinationwas associated with a 3.77-fold increase in the risk of canine distemper (Oods-Ratio: 3.77).

The aim of this study was to report the anatomical locationof human body bitten by rabies infected dogs in Bali, and also the day of victims death after the bitten. Aretrospective cross-sectional review of rabies incidences from September 2008 to the end of 2011 was usedin this study. A total of 122 rabies human victims data were used as a population sample. The data on theprofiles of individuals victim were colected , such as the age, gender, living place, anatomical bite site onhuman body, bite date, and type of biting animal.
