Abstract

Bycatch tuna is an important commercial fish commodity in the Indian Ocean tuna fishery. Tuna bycatch fishing activity also has an impact on the decline in stocks, making it vulnerable and potentially unsustainable. This study aims to analyze the level of vulnerability of tuna side-caught fish, which was conducted in Sendangbiru Malang in July 2013. Vulnerability analysis using the Euclidean distance approach with productivity and susceptability data using PSA software. The catch of bycacth tuna is skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis), lemadang fish (Coryphaena hippurus), baby tuna (Thunnus albacores). The results of the vulnerability analysis showed that the level of vulnerability obtained was 1.66 for baby tuna, 1.27 for lemadang and 1.42 for skipjack. Overall, the vulnerability index value is still low from 1.8 where the stock is classified as low susceptibility and the potential for tuna bycatch is still potentially sustainable and does not lead to overfishing.

Abstract

The Rastrelliger spp. is one of the important commodities of the Sunda Strait. This research aimsto analyze the stock status of Rastrelliger spp. Including R. faughni, R. kanagurta and R. brachysoma in Sunda Strait that landed at the Fishery Harbor (PPP) Labuan, Banten. The sampling was conducted in April-August 2015. The data was collected using Random stratified sampling based on the fish size, small, medium and large. The length of the sample was measured and classified into male and female. The data were analyzed using FISAT II ELEFAN I software to present the stock with growth, recruitment, surplus production model, and mortality and rate of exploitation parameters. The results show that R. faughni has L∞ values for females and males respectively of 264.00 mm and 288.69 mm, 293.09 mm and 330.24 mm R. kanagurta and R. brachysoma 272.04 mm and 286.42. Growth Performs Index (GPI) on R. faughni of 4.2758, R. kanagurta of 4.1673, and on R. brachysoma of 4.2076. The growth coefficient of female and male R. faughni was 0.22 and 0.16, R. kanagurta of 0.24 and 0.10, and R. brachysoma 0.20 and 0.13. The level of recruitment of each varies but overall undergoes two peaks during the recruitment period. Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY) for the Rastrelliger spp. 1,919.02 tons and FMSY (Effort MSY) for 16,766 trips. Furthermore, the mortality rate of arrest (F) R. faughni amounted to 14.53, R. kanagurta 9.43, and R. brachysoma 1.74. The estimation of stock status has never been detached from the exploitation rate. The rate of exploitation for R. faughni, and that is equal to 0.98, R. kanagurta of 0.98, and R. brachysoma 0.85. Judging from the rate of exploitation can be expected the three fish of the Rastrelliger spp. In the Sunda Strait has been over exploited because it has exceeded the limits of optimum exploitation rate.

Abstract

Aims: This study aims to assess the value sustainable development opportunity of the coral reef fisheries activities in Indonesia from the ecological, economic, and social aspect, with a case study of coral reef fisheries at the coastal area of Ternate Island, using the Sustainability Window (SuWi) approach. Methodology and Results: The data was collected from statistical data from relevant institutions and literature study, which consists of ecological, economic and social data, and analyzed using the Sustainability Window approach to determine the sustainability of the fisheries development. The result shows that the Sustainability Window of the coral reef fisheries in the research area tends to move towards sustainable development, where the national policy in catch fisheries management has an impact on the sustainable development and management of coral reef fisheries at the coastal area of Ternate Island. Conclusion, significance and impact study: The Sustainability Window of coral reef fisheries at the coastal area of Ternate Island tends to move towards sustainable processes, with the width of sustainability window that not too narrow to the coral reef fisheries activities at the provincial and national levels. This condition attaches strings to a precautionary approach in policy decision for the management process, and consideration to the effect that can result from the development policy, both at the provincial and national level. The use of Sustainability Windows approach can provide a new simple way for assessing whether the development has been towards a more sustainable direction or not.

Abstract

Trichiurus lepturus has an important role at the tropic level and is an economically important fish. The purpose of this study was to examine management indicators in the form of time series of catches per effort (CPUE), asymptotic length over time, exploitation rate, ratio of first caught length (Lc) to first gonad maturity length (Lm), and spawning potential ratio (SPR). ). The research was conducted in the Sunda Strait, samples of fish landed at PPP Labuan, Banten. The analytical method used is long frequency analysis, surplus production model, and SPR analysis. The number of male and female fish observed was 396 and 299 respectively. The minimum length of male layur fish is 438 mm and 421 mm for females. The maximum length of the male layur is 843 mm and the female is 773 mm. CPUE results tend to increase from 0.416 in 2014 to 1.043 in 2019. The exploitation rate (E) of fish is 0.85 which indicates that it has experienced over exploitation. Asymptotic length 938.33 mm. The whitefish caught for the first time at Lc = 579.5 mm had an SPR of 13.10% and at Lm = 718.5 mm it had a fairly high SPR of 31.7%. Catch size occurs before layur fish spawn. SPR below the biological reference point. However, in 2019 there was an increase in catches allegedly due to a pause in fishing due to the tsunami in 2018.

Abstract

Lake Siombak is a tidal lake that is an estuary around the lake covered with various mangrove trees. It is interesting to study the fish's spatial and temporal distribution as a unique and distinctive tidal lake ecosystem. This research was conducted for a year (from September 2018 to August 2019). Fish sampling was performed by installing gill nets (mesh size 1 inch) and cast nets (mesh size 0.5 inch). Gill nets and cast nets were installed at high and low tides during the full moon. This research showed that there were 27 species of 20 families. Tilapia, Mudskipper, Indo-pacific tarpon, and mainly Rice Fish are always found in Lake Siombak. The fish group at Lake Siombak consists of freshwater fish (mainly: Tilapia, Catfish, and Snakehead), brackish fish (mainly: Mudskipper, Rice fish, and Indo-pacific tarpon), and marine fish (mainly: Milkfish, Kanda mullet, and John's snapper). The actual resident in Lake Siombak consists of Oryziidae, Tilapia, and mudskipper. Other fish are temporary resident fish except for Lutjanidae and Scatophagidae as visitor fish during high tide and high salinity periods (dry season) and Synbranchidae during low salinity (rainy season).

Abstract

AbstractTuna fishery activities using pole and line fishing gear and tonda have the risk of causing vulnerability (ecological risk) which can disrupt the sustainability of tuna stocks. For this reason, a study was conducted to assess vulnerability which is a parameter of ecological risk using the productivity and susceptibility analysis (PSA) approach to the fish’s species are albacares (baby tuna), mackerel, lemadang, and skipjack. Biological and ecological data collection from pole and line fishing gear was carried out in Flores and trolling and tonda in Pelabuhanratu. Furthermore, laboratory analysis was carried out at the fisheries biology laboratory, Department of Aquatic Resources Management, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences IPB. The results of productivity and susceptibility analysis of the pole and line for baby tuna and Euthynnus are 1.42 and 1.98.  This value shows the level of vulnerability where the ecological risk of tuna is high and baby tuna also low. The PSA analysis of the tonda for baby tuna was 2.34; lemadang was 2.34; and skipjack was 2.18. This value indicates that the high vulnerability and ecological risk of the three species of fish are also high due to the use of tonda. The use of pole and line fishing gear and tonda lines in tuna fisheries causes a high risk for albacares (baby tuna), mackerel, lemadang, and skipjack.
