Abstract

Abstract. As one of the coastal ecosystem, coral reef ecosystem is a magnificent marine ecosystem, where their species richness and composition play an important role for the ability of coral reef ecosystem to respond to the fishing activity and other stressors, where fishing has impacted the fish community, target or non-target reef fish species. The dynamic of reef fish resources, especially the target species, become one of the aspects that must be considered in the management and utilization of the fisheries resources in the coral reef ecosystem and their surrounding area. The purpose of the study was to analyze the dynamics of the target fish in the coral reef fishing activity at the coastal area of Ternate Island, from the growth, mortality and exploitation ratio aspect. The research was conduct from April to August 2018 in the coastal area of Ternate Island. The data sampling was growth parameters data through length and weight measurement. Total sample measure along the research time was 6245 sample (consist of seven family and 11 species). The result shows that the target fish have asymptotic length (L∞) range from 263.16–483.16 mm, with growth coefficient (K) ranging from 0.61–0.92 per year. The theoretic age at length 0 (t0) ranges from minus 0.0825–0.1669 year (equal to 30-61 day). The fishing mortality rate (F) is lower than the natural mortality rate (M), which resulting the exploitation rate (E) for the target fish mostly under 50%, which indicated that the utilization of the reef fishes in the coastal area of Ternate Island is still under-exploited.Keywords: Exploitation rate, Growth parameters, Length-weight relationship, Mortality rate, Stock assessment

Abstract

Garok is a fishing gear that operates at the bottom or surface of the substrate that is caught of various benthic species. The garok gear that operates in sediment, even in the long term can cause changes in the composition of the biota. Because exploitative fishing proses, can cause damage, vulnerability and at the long-term impact to the sustainability of the population. The research was carried out in Kronjo Bay, Tangerang from March to May 2011. The samples were collected from the operation, then determined the species, quantity, and weight of each species. Descriptive statistical analysis and ANOVA were used to determine the significance of the composition between stations and observation times. The caught consist of Placuna placenta, Anadara, Murex, Tellina, and crustaceans which belong to the mollusk and crustacean groups. Statistical analysis did not show a significant difference between the research stations, but it was significantly based on the observation time with Fhit 3,1 and Ftab 1,7. It turned out that the abundance of basic biota was found to be high in April then decreased in May. Likewise, the abundance did not show a significant difference in the location and time of observation. The catch composition on the Kronjo coast is dominated by the gastropod group with an average composition of above 50% per operation. Abstract

Abstract. The decline in the quality of coral reef ecosystems is not only caused by human activities but also caused by competition in ecosystems, including competition for space and nutrients. Research on the comparison of coral reefs with macroalgae is one of the determinants of coral reef health which is the basis for the management of coral reefs with an ecosystem approach. The purpose of this study was to analyze the comparison of coral reef cover with macroalgae. The research method used is Line Intercept Transect (LIT), the research location is 13 stations divided into 3 locations, namely north, centre, and south from Ternate Island in North Maluku. The results showed that the condition of coral reefs ranged from 24 – 86.60%, based on the condition categories of 13 observation locations, the coral reefs of Ternate Island were in very good condition at 15.38%, good conditions at 46.16%, adequate conditions at 30.77%, and damaged conditions 7.69%, while the condition of macroalgae cover ranged from 0 - 30.60% in the area of coral reef ecosystems. The ratio of the of coral reefs to algae ranges from 0 to 1.117, based on the ratio value, it is classified as low, medium to high, spread in the coral reef ecosystem of Ternate Island. Coral reef management strategies on Ternate Island include a continuous monitoring program for coral reef ecosystems, education on coral reef ecosystems, creating a conscious community of waste, and limiting the capture and restoking of herbivorous fish in coral reef areas. Keywords: Coral reef, ecosystem approach management, macroalgae, Ternate Island

Abstract

HighlightsThe main problem to ensure the good management in fisheries was multi species fishPrecautionary approach needed to get a good view of the important criteria in fisheries managementNeeded a multi criteria and index to make a final conclusion of the any criteriaNatural history and population dynamic parameter important input to sustainability indexValidation model in sunda strait as preliminary approach will help to get a good data and resultAbstractTorpedo scad species known are both economic and ecologic important pelagic fish that fishing catch tends to increase last a few decades. For sustainability, in the long term, needed a management strategy that complies with measurable fish population indicators. This effort is a part of the precautionary approach in fiseries management in related exploitation. This research was conducted in Labuan fishing port performed for more than 8 months and then analyzed with population parameters. Composite analysis by multi-criteria approaches found that the average score of Torpedo scad is 1.48 and then grouped as moderate sustainability. Schooling fish, including torpedo scad has been moderate until high sustainability levels. Overall population status in this area refer to moderate potential risk and needs a precautionary approach on management.

Abstract

Highlight Research:Spawning potential ratio (SPR) based on the length and frequency data is a substitution approach for data-poor management in fisheriesGonad maturity is an indicator to ensure recruitment and stock sustainability. Therefore important to evaluate the impact of fishing capture on the size and length of fishSpawning potential ratio of skipjack relatively low and potential medium impact on risk sustainability AbstractWhen data is limited, management measurement from fisheries makes it possible to use natural history data to analyze the potential spawning ratio (SPR). This research aimed to determine skipjack fish management measure from the Indian Ocean landed at Cilacap Fishing Port through the SPR approach. The study was conducted in December 2014 to March 2015 using length and reproduction data. The analysis consisted of the size structure, growth rate, and asymptotic length that were analyzed using FISAT II program and length at fifty percent maturity (Lm50). The SPR analysis used SPR software from the application in http://barefootecologist.com.au/lbspr. The size distributions of skipjack obtained were a length of 220-790 mm and an average dominant length of 311-371 mm. The asymptotic length obtained was 831.57 mm, with growth rate and natural mortality of 1.1 and 1.44 per year respectively. The population proportion of 50% reaching gonad maturity (Lm50) was found at a length of 494.75 mm and (Lm95 = 522.39 mm) with an M/k ratio of 1.309. The length selectivity level was caught 50% (SL50 = 317.36 mm) and 95% (SL95 = 373.1 mm). The spawning potential ratio (SPR) ranged from 2-4 with an average of 4% during observation. The SPR potential, which is lower from the standardized threshold of 40%, indicates many young fish populations are caught, and the potential for overfishing is high, high risk, and low sustainability.

Abstract

Abstract
