Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi dan untuk mengetahui apakah pengajaran pemahaman membaca pada teks naratif menggunakan strategi content literacy dapat meningkatkan kemampuan siswa. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan metode pre-experimental. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII SMP Kemala Bhayangkari Kubu Raya tahun ajaran 2015/2016.  Temuan dari penelitian ini yaitu nilai rata-rata pada pre-test adalah 61.96 dan nilai rata-rata pada post-test adalah 72.50. Nilai interval dari pre-test dan post-test pada pengajaran pemahaman membaca teks naratif adalah 10.54. Perbedaan yang signifikan dari pencapaian siswa dapat pula dibuktikan dengan nilai dari t-test lebih tinggi dari t-table (15.27 > 2.051). Efek pengukuran dari perlakuan pada pengajaran pemahaman membaca pada teks naratif menggunakan strategi content literacy adalah 2.88 (kriteria tinggi). Efek pengukuran dari perlakuan menunjukkan bahwa pengajaran pemahaman membaca pada teks naratif menggunakan startegi content literacy meningkatkan pencapaian siswa.   Kata kunci: pemahaman membaca, teks naratif, strategi content literacy Abstract: This research aim to investigate and to find out whether teaching reading comprehension on narrative text through content literacy strategy could increase the students’ performance. The research was conducted in a pre-experimental method. The subject of the research was the eighth grade students of SMP Kemala Bhayangkari Kubu Raya in academic year 2015/2016. The finding of the research was the mean score of pre-test is 61.96 and the mean score of post-test is 72.50. The interval score of pre-test and post-test in teaching reading comprehension on narrative text is 10.54. The significant different students’ achievement can also be proved by the value of t-test is higher than t-table (15.27 > 2.051). The effect size of teaching reading on narrative text through content literacy strategy is 2.88 (Highly criteria). The effect size of treatment shows that teaching reading comprehension on narrative text through content literacy strategy increasing students’ achievement.   Keywords: reading comprehension, narrative text, content literacy strategy

Abstract

AbstractThe research investigated the evidence that the Herringbone technique was useful to help students to comprehend reading texts. This was a pre-experimental research with one group pre-test and post-test design. There were 37 students that participated in this research. The data were collected by objective tests and analyzed by paired t-test and effect size formula using Cohen’s index. Based on the research findings, the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected, while alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The t-obtain (4.03) was bigger than t-table (2.021) by the degree of freedom 36. The effect size was categorized moderate since the r-value was 0.30, within 0.2 up to 0.8. To sum up, the significance of using Herringbone Technique to help students to comprehend a recount text of Year-8 students of SMP Negeri 14 Pontianak in Academic Year 2017/2018 was moderate.Keywords: Herringbone Technique, Personal Recount Text, Literal and Inferential Questions

Abstract

 AbstractThis research aimed to investigate how Dictogloss improved students? listening comprehension on fairy tale at tenth grade students of SMA Islamiyah Pontianak in academic year 2017/2018. The research was Classroom Action Research. The research subject was tenth grade students in class XA. The writer used field note, observation checklist, and listening test as tools of collecting data. The data analysis showed the students? listening comprehension in discriminating sound of past tense action verbs improved through preparation stage of Dictogloss. The students? listening comprehension in finding specific information of fairy tale improved through dictation stage of Dictogloss. In addition, the students? listening comprehension in finding main idea improved through reconstruction stage of Dictogloss. The students? concentration in listening comprehension of fairy tale were improved through reconstruction stage of Dictogloss. Dictogloss could improve students? listening comprehension and concentration in discriminating sound of past tense action verbs, finding specific information and main idea of fairy tale. Keywords: Fairy Tale, Dictogloss, Listening Comprehension.

Abstract

Abstract: This research is aimed at improving students? reading comprehension of narrative text. This research was conducted to second year students of SMK Al-Madani Pontianak in academic year 2013/2014. This class consists of 30 students. The researcher conducted a classroom action research. The data was collected by using observation and measurement technique. The observation checklist and field notes were used as the tools of data collecting. Students? Team Achievement Division (STAD) was used as technique in this research. The researcher applied three cycles. The research findings showed that the mean score of students? reading comprehension in the first cycle was 55.36; the second cycle was 58.33 but in the third cycle was 62.03. From the research applied to the subject of the research, it can be stated that the Students? Team Achievement Division (STAD) could ensure the students in understanding and comprehending the text they read. Dari penelitian yang diterapkan pada subjek penelitian, dapat dinyatakan bahwa Students? Team Achievement Division (STAD) bisa menjamin siswa dalam memahami dan memahami teks yang mereka baca. Abstract

Abstract: This study aimed to know whether or not the use of REAP strategy is effective in teaching students reading comprehension on descriptive text. The researcher conducted this research in English Education Study Program, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tanjungpura University, Pontianak in academic year 2014/2015. This research was conducted as a pre-experimental research with the one group pre-test post-test. The sample of this research was 35 students. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test by using multiple choices test consisting of twenty items. The finding shows that there are significant difference of the students? achievement that can be proved by t-test is higher than t-table. Moreover, the effect of treatment is categorized as modest effect. It indicates that the use of REAP strategy is effective in teaching reading comprehension especially in teaching descriptive text. Therefore, REAP strategy is a good strategy used to develop students? better understanding in reading and thinking through the use of writing.   Keywords: REAP strategy, Reading Comprehension. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah penggunaan penggunaan strategi REAP efektif atau tidak dalam mengajarkan pemahaman membaca siswa dalam teks deskriptif. Peneliti melaksanakan penelitian ini pada Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, FKIP UNTAN, Pontianak, tahun ajaran 2014/2015. Penelitian dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan metode pre-experimental dengan satu grup pre-test post-test. Sampel pada penelitian ini berjumlah 35 orang. Data dikumpulkan melalui pre-test dan post-test dengan menggunakan test pilihan ganda terdiri dari 10 soal. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan dari pencapaian siswa yang dapat dibuktikan dengan nilai t-test lebih tinggi dibandingkan nilai t-table. Selanjutnya, pengaruh dari perlakuan dikategorikan cukup berpengaruh. Hal ini menandakan bahwa penggunaan strategi REAP efektif dalam mengajarkan pemahaman membaca siswa khususnya dalam mengajarkan teks deskriptif teks. Oleh karena itu, strategi REAP adalah sebuah strategi yang baik digunakan untuk mengembangkan pemahaman siswa yang baik dalam membaca dan berfikir melalui penggunaan menulis.   Kata kunci: Strategi REAP, Pemahaman Membaca.

Abstract

AbstractThis research was conducted to find out the effect of using concept map of graphic organizer on teaching writing descriptive text. The population of this research was all of Year ? 8 students of SMP Negeri 7 Sungai Raya KabupatenKubu Raya in Academic Year 2018/2019, and the writer took the sample by using lottery from Year ? 8 Class D which consist of 28 students. The writer conducted this research through pre-experimental research with one group pre-test and post-test design. The writer collected the data using a measurement technique to measure students writing descriptive text, and the writer used an essay form which consists of instructional objectives. The findings showed that the students? mean score of pre ? test was 49.07 and after the treatment, students? mean score of post ? test was 67.86. Therefore, the finding also showed the result of the t-test was 17.56 that higher than t-table 2.052 with ?=0.05. It showed that null hypothesis (HO) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) that the use of concept map does affect the teaching of writing descriptive text is accepted. In conclusion, concept map of graphic organizer was significantly affects students? writing in descriptive text.Key Words: Writing, Descriptive Texts, Concept Map

Abstract

AbstractThis research aimed to improve students? reading comprehension through Know-Want to Know-Learned (KWL) Strategy to class VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Air Besar Kabupaten Landak in Academic Year 2015/2016. This research was conducted based on the problems found in the classroom. It was found that students had difficulties in understanding the generic structure of narrative text. This research was conducted through a Classroom Action Research in three cycles to 25 students of class VIII. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation and field notes. To analyzed the data by finding and comparing the mean score of the test in cycle 1 ,cycle 2 and cycle 3.  Based on the findings in this research, it was  found that using kWL Stategy in teaching and learning improved students? understanding on how to find the generic structur of narrative text. Besides, the presence of the things interests the students in teaching and learning in the classroom. Keywords: Improve, Reading, KWL Strategy

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this research was to find out the effectiveness of Big Book in increasing students’ english early reading skills. The method used was a pre experimental design. The sample of this research was class B kindergarten of Rumah Matematika dan Sains. The tool of data collecting was oral reading test. T-test and effect size formula used to measure the effectiveness of the treatment. After the treatment, the students’ english early reading skills increased, they aware of the letter sounds, and they become familiar with the words . The data showed their score in letter sounds ,familiar word reading, and sentences reading increased. The findings showed that the t-test 27.879 was higher than the ttable (27.879 > 2.930). the effect size results was 1.39 (ES > 0.80) which was classified as high. Based on the results the use of big book was effective to increase students english early reading skills. Keywords : English Early Reading, Big book. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektifitas media buku besar dalam meningkatkan kemampuan awal membaca pada siswa taman kanak-kanak di Rumah Matematika dan Sains. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah rancangan  pre experimental. Sampel dari penelitian ini adalah siswa taman kanak kanak kelas B di Rumah Matematika dan Sains. Instrument yang digunakan dalam pengambilan data adalah tes membaca lisan. Pengukuran tingkat efektifitas treatment dilakukan dengan uji t dan uji efek. Setelah diberikan perlakuan hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kemampuan awal membaca bahasa inggris pada siswa, siswa mengetahui bunyi dari huruf-huruf, dan mereka perlahan mengenali kata-kata dalam bacaan. Data menunjukkan hasil test pada bagian bunyi huruf, membaca kata, dan membaca kalimat, meningkat setelah diberi perlakuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan uji t 27.879 lebih tinggi dari ttable (27.879 > 2.930). Hasil uji besar efek 1.39 (ES > 0.80) dikategorikan tinggi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian penggunaan buku besar efektif dalam meningkatkkan kemampuan awal membaca bahasa inggris pada siswa. Kata Kunci : Kemampuan awal membaca bahasa inggris, Buku besar.

Abstract

Abstract: This research is aimed to investigate the factors influencing students? English listening comprehension on the eleventh grade students of SMAN 10 Pontianak in academic year 2014/2015.The writer applied a case study in this research. The samples of this research are 60 students (26 females and 34 males) out of 217 students as population, taken randomly from 6 classes (3 sciene classes and 3 social classes). The data was collected by using questionnaire, and analyzed by using SPSS. The result of this research showed that the main factor influencing students? English listening comprehension was vocabulary. The lack of vocabulary caused other problems, such as hard to follow the speed of speaker, not ready to listen the conversation, vocabulary that speaker used was hard, hard to differentiate the homophone words, not interested to listen to English conversation, hard to get the information from the speaker, the topic of conversation felt hard and dislike of the topic of conversation. Keywords: Listening Comprehension, Case Study Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui factor ? factor yang mempengaruhi pemahaman mendengar Bahasa Inggris Siswa kelas 11 SMAN 10 Pontianak pada tahun akademik 2014/2015. Peneliti menerapkan jenis penelitian studi kasus. Sampel penelitian ini 60 siswa (26 laki ? laki ? dan 34 perempuan) dahri total populasi 217 siswa, yang diambil secara acak dari 6 kelas (3 kelas IA dan 3 Kelas IS). Data diperoleh melalui kuesioner dan dianalisis menggunakan SPSS.  Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa factor utama yang mempengaruhi kemampuan mendengar Bahasa Inggris siswa adalah kosakata. Kurangnya kosakata mengakibatkan masalah lainnya seperti, kesulitan mengikuti kecepatan pembicara, ketidaksiapan mendengar percakapan, kosakata sulit yang digunakan pembicara, kesulitan membedakan kata yang bersifat homofon, ketidaktertarikan mendengar dalam Bahasa Inggris, kesulitan memperoleh informasi dari pembicara, topic pembicaraan terasa berat dan ketidaktertarikan terhadap topic pembicaraan. Email: endahworohapsari@rocketmail.com Abstract: The purpose of this research was to investigate the level of the effectiveness of team-pair-solo to teach reading comprehension of explanatory text to Year-X students of ?SMA Negeri 8 Pontianak? in Academic Year 2014/2015. This research was a pre-experimental research with one group pre-test and post-test design. The population of this research were students of Year-X MIA. The samples of this research were Year-X MIA1. The technique of data collecting was measurement technique. The data were collected by applying pre-test and post-test through team-pair-solo to teach reading comprehension of explanatory text. The students score on pre-test and post-test was analyzed by using SPSS. The final computation shows that the effect size of the treatment was 0.904 (> 0.5) and considered very effective. It proves that the use of team-pair-solo was highly-effective to teach reading comprehension of explanatory text to Year-X MIA1 students. Key Words: Team-Pair-Solo, Reading Comprehension, Explanatory Text.   Abstrak: penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat keefektifan pengunaan tehnik team-pair-solo dalam mengajarkan pemahaman membaca teks explanatory kepada siswa kelas X ?SMA Negeri 8 Pontianak? pada tahun ajaran 2014/2015. Penelitian ini adalah sebuah penelitian eksperimental dengan rancanggan satu grup pre-test dan post-test. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa-siswa kelas X ilmu alam. Sample penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X ilmu alam satu. Teknik pengumpulan data adalah teknik pengukuran. Data-data diambil dengan menerapkan pre-test dan post-test melalui penggunaan teknik team-pair-solo dalam mengajarkan pemahaman membaca teks explanatory. Nilai siswa pada pre-test dan post-test kemudian dianalisa menggunakan SPSS. Perhitungan akhir menunjukkan bahwa effect size dari perlakuan adalah 0.904 (> 0.5) dan dikatakan sangat efektif. Hal tersebut membuktikan bahwa penerapan tecknik team-pair-solo sangat efektif untuk mengajar pemahaman membaca teks explanatory untuk siswa kelas X ilmu alam satu.
