Abstract

Tor tambroides, T. tambra, T. douronensis, and T. soro are native fish species to Indonesia with their natural habitat generally being upstream of rivers in hilly areas with clear water and strong currents. Information of the structure and function of appendicular osteology is necessary to understand how fish accelerate and maintain body balance in the water. This study used 5 samples per fish species obtained from Tor fishermen around the habitat of these fish. The results of the comparison showed morphological differences between the appendicular structure of Tor species, consisting structure of the pinnae pectoralis, pinnae pelvicalis, pinnae dorsalis, pinnae analis, and pinnae caudalis. The highest variation was found in the pinnae caudalis. The pointed shape of the pinnae caudalis with long fin rays indicates that the Tor species is capable to swim at a high speeds. Keywords:ossa appendiculareTor douronensisTor tambraTor tambroidesTor soro

Abstract

Brine shrimp (Artemia salina) cytotoxicity assays (BSLT) are one of the commonly used cytotoxic test methods to assess a plant extract's pharmacological activity and toxicity. Thus, this study aimed to examine the toxic levels of Kecubung (Datura metel) leaves extracted using different solvents, namely ethanol and ethyl acetate. The results showed that the LC50value of flower ethanol, flower ethyl acetate, leaf ethanol, and stem ethyl acetate extracts had an LC50value 1000, which was included in the toxic category. The LC50value of flower ethanol is 121.044 ppm, flower ethyl acetate 105.89 ppm, leaf ethanol 639.589 ppm, and stem ethyl acetate 635.276 ppm. Ethanol leaf extract at a concentration of 1000 ppm showed the highest mortality with a percentage of 60% of the total number ofA. salina. The flower ethanol extract showed the highest mortality at a concentration of 250 ppm with a percentage of 67% and at a concentration of 1000 ppm with a percentage of 70% of the total number ofA. salina. Meanwhile, flower ethyl acetate and stem ethyl acetate extract at a concentration of 1000 ppm obtained 100% mortality ofA. salinain the first 6 hours. The result shows that the flower ethyl acetate and stem ethyl acetate extract at a concentration of 1000 ppm is very toxic compared to other concentrations. Keywords:ToxicityArtemia salinaLC50Ethyl acetateEthanol

Abstract

Catfish farming is one of the businesses that is very much in demand by the community, because it can improve the community's economy. However, not all catfish farming businesses can produce maximum results. This can be caused by several factors, both from feed, management and water quality. Decrease in water quality can be caused by feces and fish feed residue. Poor water quality can cause the growth process, physiology and level of fish behavior to be disturbed. Efforts that can be done is to use aquatic plants as phytoremediation. The plants used in this study were Azolla sp, Eichhornia crassipes, Lemna sp, Ipomoea aquatic. The design used in this study was a completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 3 replications. The parameters observed in this study were ammonia levels, pH, and plant population. The results showed that Eichhornia crassipes and Lemna sp were able to reduce ammonia levels in catfish cultured water by 0.01 mg/l at the end of the study. Keywords:AmmoniaWater plantsCatfish

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to characterize pathogenic bacteria and analyze the level of hepatopancreatic tissue damage in whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) originating from pond and hatchery cultivation systems in Jangka and Simpang Mamplam Districts, Bireuen Regency. Shrimp samples were collected from two types of water locations that receive aquaculture waste runoff, namely estuarine stations (aquaculture pond effluent) and coastal marine stations (hatchery effluent). Bacterial analysis was carried out through isolation on agar media and identification of colony morphology and biochemical tests, while histopathological analysis was carried out on hepatopancreatic tissue using the Hematoxylin–Eosin (H&E) staining method with a semi-quantitative scoring system. The results showed that the identified pathogenic bacteria included Aeromonas hydrophila, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Photobacterium damselae, Vibrio alginolyticus, and Vibrio vulnificus with densities ranging from 10³–10⁷ CFU. The highest bacterial density was found at the estuarine station, especially from the genus Vibrio. Histopathological analysis revealed various structural changes in hepatopancreas tissue, including cell lysis, vacuolization, hemocyte aggregation, tubular damage, and inflammatory responses. Histopathological scores at the estuarine station (3.67–4.00) indicated a more severe level of tissue damage compared to the marine station (2.67).
