Abstract

Soybean as one of national important food commodities has a central role in national food policy and the fulfillment of community nutrition. Indonesia is the largest soybean market in Asia by importing as much as 67.28% or 1.96 million tons of domestic soybean needs, while the remaining 32.72% is produced through domestic soybean production. The length of the supply chain from producers to consumers causes the selling value of products to fluctuate and tends to decrease. This study aims to analyze: (1) Supply chain performance and the factors influencing the marketing channel choice of soybeans in Grobogan Regency. (2) Activities that add value carried out in the soybean supply chain and the distribution of value added of these actors in Grobogan Regency. This research was conducted in Grobogan Regency, Central Java. Primary data were collected through interview techniques using a questionnaire. The types and number of respondents consisted of 100 soybean farmers, 10 collecting traders and 3 processing industries. Analysis of the description of the soybean supply chain is carried out using the FSCN process framework. Marketing efficiency is measured from marketing margins, farmer's share analysis, profit and cost ratio. The factors that determine the choice of farmers to the supply chain used, the quantitative approach to the multinomial logit regression model, and the added value analysis used is the Hayami method. Viewed from the marketing margin, farmer's share, also the profit and cost ratio, channel four is more efficient than other channels. There are several factors that influence the decision making of soybean farmers to sell soybeans. Some of the factors are the knowledge that the farmers have, number of sales (harvest) and selling prices. All secondary soy products produced will be able to increase the income of businesses, including soybean farmers

Abstract

Abstract

This study analyses the volatility of beef prices in Indonesia, a strategic commodity that significantly impacts the welfare of producers and consumers. The sustained and erratic price fluctuations pose an economic risk to producers and threaten farmers' economic stability. ARCH / GARCH models were used to analyze daily beef price data from 10 July 2017 to 31 December 2023, obtained from the National Strategic Food Price Information Centre of Bank Indonesia. The GARCH (2,2) model is the most suitable for estimating the volatility of beef prices in Indonesia, with low and sustainable volatility in the long run. Factors that affect this volatility include feeder cattle and beef imports, exchange rates, livestock diseases, the COVID-19 pandemic, and government policies such as PPKM and PSBB during the new normal era. Important events such as Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, Christmas, and New Year also influence price volatility of beef. This research aims to assist the government to design more effective market stabilization policies in the short, medium, and long term period. Keywords: beef, ARCH/GARCH, price volatility, fluctuation

Abstract

Central Java Province is one of the provinces with the potential to be a source of beef cattle. The increase in the beef cattle population in Central Java province is expected to increase the national beef cattle population significantly. This study aims to assess the potential of beef cattle and develop a strategy for its development in the Province of Central Java. A study was done using the survey method, and secondary data were obtained from related agencies. Samples were taken using the stratified proportional method as many as 112 farmers. Data were analyzed using LQ analysis, trend analysis, and SWOT analysis.  LQ analysis showed that beef cattle's potential base area was in the Grobogan Regency and Kendal Regency. Estimation of beef cattle population in Central Java Province based on trend analysis shows that the areas of Salatiga City, Demak Regency and Grobogan Regency have the potential to become beef cattle base areas. Based on the carrying capacity, areas that can potentially increase livestock populations are Semarang Regency, Salatiga City, and Grobogan Regency. The results of the SWOT analysis show that the right strategy in developing beef cattle is in quadrant I, namely supporting the growth of an aggressive strategy that uses strength to gain opportunities. The recommendation that can be given from this study is that the implementation of strategies in each region will differ according to the potential of each region.
